Todd kept his spare shirt on the supply cart's empty seat. Its driver had agreed to take him as far as the stair at Two Down after unloading. Nana had found her there and brought her to Clinic Five. At the stair he could ask the returning crews about the Demon King's roads. He had last seen Kaiko and the children at the castle; he needed somebody to tell him which way still reached it.
Then Talli put one of Griswald's promised boards across two crates, and it broke under her knee.
Talli held up the split plank to the account worker. "Those patients weigh more than I do. Take the rest of this lot back before somebody uses it."
Todd turned away from the cart. The broken plank had split along an old nail hole. Most of the timber beside it had holes at the same intervals. Griswald's men had taken it out of packing frames, and the two patients crowded into the wash alcove were supposed to sleep on it.
