The next morning, Ty returned to Lab 1. Kirana had cleared one wall for a whiteboard and arrived with enough coffee to make him question whether she had slept.
"Before we test anything inside you, you need the basic soul rankings," she said. "Stop me when the names quit making sense."

Basic Soul Colorless -- Kirana, holding her coffee, moved closer to the whiteboard. "Let's talk about the Basic Soul or Colorless Soul," she said, scribbling on the board. "This soul type is common.
You'll find it in everyday people and regular soldiers, no matter where they come from."
She paused, taking a sip of her coffee. "Basic isn't weak," Kirana continued. "They might not have a head start or much natural talent, but they can still achieve a lot." Her words filled the room, clear and precise.
She tapped the board twice, making sure Ty followed the difference between common and useless. The categories were labels, not verdicts.
