Chapter 2 - Chapter Two: The Girl Beyond the Void

Kael could not feel his body.

There was no ground beneath him.

No sky above him.

No sound.

Only endless darkness stretching across infinity.

Yet somehow… he was still falling.

Fragments of light drifted around him like shattered stars. Every fragment carried memories he did not recognize.

A child laughing beneath glowing trees.

A burning kingdom.

A hand reaching for his.

Blood staining silver feathers.

And always her.

The girl with golden eyes.

Kael clenched his fists.

"Who are you?"

The darkness answered.

"Someone you once loved."

His breath caught.

The voice came from everywhere at once.

Soft.

Ancient.

Lonely.

Then light bloomed ahead of him.

A massive ocean appeared in the void, glowing beneath a black sky filled with unfamiliar constellations.

Kael landed violently on shallow water.

Ripples spread endlessly beneath his feet.

He stared around in shock.

The ocean reflected galaxies.

Each step sent stars trembling beneath the surface.

"What is this place?"

"The space between endings."

Kael turned.

She stood several meters away.

Silver hair flowed down to her waist like moonlight woven into silk. A long white dress moved gently despite the absence of wind.

And her eyes—

Those impossible golden eyes.

The same ones from the vision.

The same ones haunting his mind.

For a moment, Kael forgot how to breathe.

The girl watched him quietly.

Not with surprise.

Not with fear.

But with sadness.

"You finally found me," she whispered.

Kael stepped back instinctively.

"No," he said immediately. "I don't even know you."

A faint smile touched her lips.

"That is the cruelest part."

Kael frowned.

"Where am I?"

"You are between memories."

"That explains nothing."

"It isn't supposed to."

Her answer irritated him.

Kael looked around again.

The ocean stretched forever in every direction.

No horizon.

No land.

Only stars beneath water.

"This is a dream."

"No."

Her gaze lowered slightly.

"It's a prison."

Silence followed.

Kael studied her carefully.

She looked young.

Perhaps his age.

But her eyes carried something ancient inside them.

"How do you know me?" he asked.

The girl hesitated.

Then she slowly walked toward him.

The glowing water never splashed beneath her feet.

"You were the first person who ever reached for my hand," she said softly.

Kael felt an unfamiliar pain in his chest.

"What does that even mean?"

"It means," she whispered, "that once upon a time, you loved me enough to destroy heaven."

The world trembled.

Kael's head exploded with pain.

Another memory flashed.

A throne shattered by black fire.

Celestial beings screaming.

A man standing at the center of destruction.

Blue flames burning across his body.

Golden eyes identical to his own.

Kael collapsed to one knee.

The girl immediately reached toward him.

The moment her fingers touched his face—

Everything stopped.

Warmth flooded through him.

Not power.

Not fear.

Peace.

It vanished just as quickly.

The girl pulled away sharply, horror suddenly filling her expression.

"No…" she whispered.

Kael looked up.

"What?"

Her hands trembled.

"You're awakening too fast."

Before he could answer, the ocean beneath them cracked.

A massive ripple spread through the void.

Then came the screaming.

Thousands of voices echoed across the darkness.

The stars beneath the water began turning red.

The girl's expression changed instantly.

Fear.

Real fear.

"They found you."

The black sky above them split apart.

Gigantic golden chains descended from the heavens.

Kael stared upward.

Each chain was larger than mountains.

Covered in glowing symbols.

A thunderous voice shook reality itself.

"RETURN THE HEIR."

The ocean exploded.

Monstrous shadows rose from beneath the water.

Creatures with hollow faces and wings made of darkness clawed toward Kael.

"What are those?!"

"Memories," the girl answered.

"That should have stayed dead."

One of the creatures lunged.

Kael stumbled backward.

The girl moved instantly.

Silver light erupted from her hand.

The creature disintegrated into ashes.

Kael froze.

Power radiated from her in terrifying waves.

The surrounding stars dimmed.

Even the chains above seemed to recoil.

"You…"

The girl looked at him sadly.

"This is why they fear me."

The chains descended faster.

The voice returned.

"LYANA."

For the first time, Kael heard her name.

And somehow… it shattered something inside him.

More memories flooded his mind.

Laughing together beneath white trees.

A promise made beneath dying stars.

Her crying while holding his lifeless body.

Kael grabbed his head.

"Stop…"

Lyana rushed toward him.

"You need to wake up now."

"What's happening to me?"

Her golden eyes softened.

"You're remembering."

The chains finally pierced the ocean.

The entire void began collapsing.

Cracks spread across the black sky.

A gigantic eye opened beyond the fractures.

Watching them.

Ancient.

Merciless.

Kael felt terror unlike anything he had ever known.

Lyana stepped in front of him immediately.

"Don't look at it."

But it was too late.

The eye looked directly into his soul.

And something inside Kael answered.

Power exploded from his body.

Black flames erupted across the ocean.

The stars beneath the water died instantly.

The giant chains shattered.

Even the enormous eye recoiled.

Lyana stared at him in shock.

"No…"

Kael could barely hear her.

Voices screamed inside his mind.

Kill the heavens.

Break eternity.

Find her.

The black flames spread wildly.

Reality itself began tearing apart.

Lyana grabbed his face with both hands.

"Kael!"

Her voice cut through the chaos.

For a moment, everything became silent.

Tears filled her eyes.

"You cannot remember everything yet," she whispered desperately.

"If you do… they'll find you before you're ready."

Kael stared at her.

For the first time, he noticed she looked exhausted.

Not physically.

Emotionally.

Like someone who had waited alone for far too long.

"Who are you really?" he whispered.

Lyana smiled weakly.

"I'm the reason the universe keeps ending."

The void shattered.

Light consumed everything.

Kael woke up gasping.

He shot upright instantly.

Cold stone beneath him.

Dim lantern light.

The undercity tunnels.

Reality.

Kael's breathing turned frantic.

It felt real.

Too real.

Across the room, the Wanderer sat quietly beside a small fire.

"You saw her," the old man said.

Kael looked at him sharply.

"…Lyana."

The Wanderer's expression darkened.

"So she remembers you too."

Kael stood immediately.

"What is happening to me?"

The Wanderer remained silent for several moments.

Then he finally spoke.

"Long before the Three Realms existed," he said quietly, "there was a war so catastrophic that reality itself nearly collapsed."

Kael's chest tightened.

"And at the center of that war…"

The old man looked directly into his eyes.

"…were you and the girl named Lyana."

Far above the undercity, hidden beyond silver clouds and floating temples, bells suddenly rang across the Celestial Realm.

An ancient throne room trembled.

A woman wearing a crown of living light slowly opened her eyes.

Golden eyes.

Cold.

Terrifying.

"The Heir has awakened," she whispered.

Around her, celestial gods fell to their knees.

And somewhere far beyond the stars…

Something ancient smiled.
