Mommy is angry,
and the cracked mirror breaks
like tires that inflate.
She calls the police on daddy,
his long vacation awaits.
.
Mommy hang outs with a new man,
He's a nice guy!
Mommy's new friend
Is so cool and kind!
.
But where is dad?
"Mom, when will daddy return?"
She has no answer,
Suddenly, he's home!
.
My brothers and I run outside,
And greet him with the hugs and cheers
For a dad who has a loving heart.
He was much heavier, before.
.
One day, mommy decides to pack and leave,
Years pass and she is barely seen.
Just the boys and me,
Mommy has remarried.
.
Window panes are where my bother and I stayed,
Hours and hours
Even in the rain.
.
Mom watched the screen,
Her children stared into the wilderness,
And wondered when mother bear
To come back again.
.
I remember the tail lights
So bright and sheen,
The memory of a mother
Who ran away to green.
.
As a teen,
I notice the apple tree outside;
It was the Tree-napper,
Just older and wiser.
.
When did it ever grow Apples?
.
This time, the tree was like a curse.
Its branches looked all wrong.
The apples never tasted good.
They didn't last for long.
.
I thought the tree was watching.
I thought it knew my name.
Sometimes when the wind would blow,
It whispered just the same.
.
I saw its grotesque faces;
old men and women
that looked the same.
Witches and warlocks
Their faces were the same.
.
I knew the tree had taken her.
I knew it was to blame.
Witches and warlocks watched me
They stole my mommy
yellow flowers around their necks --
.
"Come to the apple tree,
and come alone,
if you must,"
the tree spoke to her
and she led a life of terror.
