Mary Douglas leaned against the hospital bed, her entire body wrapped in white gauze except for her eyes and nose, supported by two soft pillows behind her, silently staring at the wall-mounted TV opposite her.
Uncle Reed came over to bring her some food.
She showed no reaction to the news on the TV.
Mary Douglas took the cup he handed over, inserted the straw into her mouth, and drank a sip of millet porridge.
"It must have been difficult for the Dean to lie in front of so many reporters."
Uncle Reed responded softly, "It wasn't exactly lying."
Mary Douglas gently tugged at her lips, lifting her gaze back to the TV screen.
In such chaotic scenes, her eyes were still fixed on the boy quietly standing behind the orphanage gate, whose expression was a mystery.
A trace of gloom flashed in her eyes, and she lowered her gaze from the screen.
Uncle Reed raised his hand to turn off the TV, "Is there anywhere Missy wants to go? I can arrange it for some time."
"Arrange what?"
