"Sister Mary, what about you?"
Mary Douglas made sure the rope was tied tight, wiped the rain off her face. "What about me? You're an Ancestor. If you die, Beau Reed will want to skin me alive. I can die, but you absolutely cannot!"
As she said this, Mary Douglas, in the middle of all this, actually felt a coldness rise in her heart and couldn't help but shiver all over.
"I'll go in front, you follow right behind me."
Quinn Martinez nodded again and again. "Mm, mm!"
She glanced at the rope around her own waist, then looked up through the curtain of rain toward the mountain.
Only after she was sure that the other end of her rope was in their hands did she finally let out a breath.
Compared to just now, when she'd been trembling and cautious, she looked much more at ease.
A single rope brought about an earth-shattering change in her mind.
And it was exactly this tiny change that made the accident hit without warning.
