Chapter 43 - Chapter 43: Two Heads are Better Than One

On the second floor of the cafeteria, the sound of conversation rose and fell, and most people had food piled like mountains on their trays.

Wade sat alone in a corner, with three steaks, three salt and pepper chicken legs, and a large portion of charcoal-grilled pork ribs on his table.

"It's really quite expensive, cost me nearly 100... At this rate, food alone will cost about 100,000 a year. Supe University really isn't for ordinary people."

He bit into a chicken leg floating in front of his mouth, carefully feeling the mental defense in his mind that was on the verge of breaking; the cracks on it were slowly repairing, and it seemed to have become much tougher.

'Kate's [Mental Control] is fully developed. In terms of application, she's stronger than me; but in terms of mental strength alone, my two-in-one soul is higher than hers.'

Wade was pondering how to use [Mental Control] to temporarily erase others' memories—for example, putting a memory lock insurance on Mena... to prevent other mind-control Supes from stealing information through mind-reading and indirectly finding him.

Just then, a petite figure wearing a black and white gothic outfit sat down in front of him.

In front of Jill was a steaming bowl of noodle soup the size of a washbasin. She blew on it twice: "Phew... Why haven't you come to see me lately?"

"If you have something to say, say it." Wade controlled air blades with his mind, separating the fragrant pork ribs one by one.

Jill's fingertips quickly formed two ice-crystal chopsticks, and she snatched a piece of steak: "Hmph, you still owe me twice! You didn't forget, did you?"

"I didn't forget, I've just been busy lately." Wade raised an eyebrow as he slurped the tender pork that automatically flowed into his mouth, "Do you really want to talk about this while eating?"

"You're not keeping your word." Jill put down her chopsticks and opened her cherry-like mouth, "Ah~ I punish you to feed me yourself."

Wade remembered the last time he asked Jill to help deliver a letter to Starlight; she had completed it perfectly, and the things he had promised were indeed not finished.

"Fine, you win."

He circled his fingers twice, cutting the steak on the table into over a hundred small pieces with air blades and sending them into Jill's mouth one by one.

"You're a die-hard fan of Starlight, right?" Jill said while chewing the food delivered to her mouth, "There's a Starlight meet-and-greet the day after tomorrow, on the same day as the speed duel between A-Train and Shockwave. Homelander and Queen Maeve will also be there."

With a pinch of his hand, Wade drew up two sips of her fiery red soup: "What do you mean? Is the Sisterhood Society invited to cheer again?"

Jill clapped her two pale little hands: "Guessed right! Want to go? Not only is food included and the meet-and-greet free, but you can also earn credits!"

Wade pointed at himself with a look of surprise: "Me? I'm not in the Sisterhood Society."

"Queen Maeve and Homelander are appearing together to cheer for A-Train. They're an on-screen couple, so we members of the Sisterhood Society need to find male partners to go with..." Jill lowered her head and muttered shyly, "I, I haven't found anyone yet."

'Butcher and the others will be sneaking into the stadium then; it's a good chance to go and see... If they successfully steal compound v and A-Train has no drug to inject, will he lose? If he collapses from exhaustion, then I'll have a chance to get a speed-type ability.' Thinking of this, he used a large hand of air to flick Jill's twin tails and smiled broadly, "No problem, I'll go with you."

Jill cupped her cheeks and giggled foolishly, a purple blush appearing on her pale face: "Then, then that can't count as the second thing! I want to... use it later."

Wade remembered the long-drawn-out battle for the gaming chair in her dormitory last time and didn't understand what was going on in Jill's little ice-crystal brain.

He waved his hand and responded casually, "As long as it doesn't involve me running naked in the street or making a fool of myself."

Jill slurped a mouthful of noodles, her eyes curving into crescents as she mumbled, "It won't be that bad. It's just that after the race ends that day, I want to play something a bit more... exciting."

"Sure." Wade felt no psychological burden; this kind of thing was consensual anyway. Besides, Jill's [Extreme Cold Ice Body] ability hadn't been fully analyzed yet, so he welcomed the opportunity.

Buzz Buzz

The phone in his pocket suddenly vibrated.

Wade looked at the screen; it was a message from Luke: [2 PM, come to Dorm 305 on the 3rd floor. Let's talk.]

"Let's?"

...In the afternoon, outside Dorm 305.

Wade, still sleepy-eyed, floated as he pushed the door open and entered. A blast of cold air mixed with dry heat hit him in the face.

Inside the room, Luke's eyes were glowing gold, and heat waves were steaming and distorting around him as he gripped Jordan Li's collar.

"You were right there! You helped Brink use that damn dizzying gas shroud to take me down... I wondered how you climbed so fast! Is the assistant position you got by selling me out comfortable to sit in, Jordan?"

"I thought you were going to attack the professor at the time. I didn't know about any experiment, much less that you would be taken away." Jordan Li's expression kept changing. He clenched his fists and shouted in a low voice, "I just wanted to stop you from doing something irreversible. Is that wrong?"

"Hey! Hey! Calm down, everyone calm the f*ck down!" Andre inserted himself between the two just in time, one hand pushing Luke back while the other signaled Jordan to step away, "Luke, cool your temper. Do you want to set the dorm on fire? Jordan, say less!"

Wade closed the door, and the fiery atmosphere stalled slightly.

Andre looked like he had seen a savior and hurriedly shouted, "Come over and lend a hand!"

"Some things are better talked out, Luke." Wade pulled over a chair and sat down, reaching out to separate the two flushed men with an air current, "Lee was also kept in the dark by Brink; he didn't know anything."

Luke snorted and turned his head, the fire on his body gradually receding; Jordan Li sat on another chair, lowering his eyes with a bitter smile.

Andre breathed a sigh of relief and took over: "Alright, Wade is here. Let's get down to business... Luke, tell everyone again about your discovery and the situation with Sam."

Just as Luke had gathered his thoughts and said a few words...

Knock, knock, knock.

A crisp knocking sound came from the door.

Luke frowned but still walked over to open the door.

When he saw Kate standing outside, the air instantly froze.

Kate stood at the door with a timid look, nervously picking at her fingers, forcing a very awkward smile.

Luke took a few steps back, fire igniting on his fists. The thermonuclear energy that had just subsided surged out again like a volcano about to erupt: "What are you doing here? Did Shetty send you to eavesdrop again?"

"Or do you want to come here and erase our memories again?!"

Kate's eyes filled with tears. She walked in with a stubborn look, closed the door, and said with a trembling, tearful voice: "No, it's not like that... I'm here... to help you! I want to make amends, really!"

"Shh—let me prepare first." Wade reached out in four directions, drawing away a small portion of gas near the walls. In an instant, he constructed a zone isolated from the outside, "Now we don't have to worry about anyone eavesdropping."

Kate bit her lip and, facing Luke's fierce gaze, said urgently: "I can also help you control 'The Woods' security! I know how to get into 'The Woods' lab! Let me help, please, let me help you save Sam..."

The room fell into a dead silence, with only the sound of heat waves sizzling in the air.

Andre and Jordan Li looked at each other, clearly stunned by this sudden "defection."

Everyone's gaze shifted over Kate, unable to judge whether this was a turning point or a trap.

"What Senior says... sounds more reliable than barging in." Seeing the others hesitating, Wade spoke first, " I'll watch her. I can cover my body with air currents; she won't be able to touch me."

Luke hesitated for a long time before finally putting away the flames burning on his hands: "Then you'd better keep a close eye on her. Don't let her knock you out by accident."

Andre flipped a coin: "I have no objection."

Jordan Li raised a hand to speak: "I'm in, but on one condition... no killing."

"Knocking them out or tying them up is fine. We're not going there to commit a crime. If we cause any deaths, there will be no turning back."

Wade nodded and echoed in a deep voice: "Lee is right. The underground lab is the school's secret project. If we want to negotiate peacefully with Dean Shetty and Professor Brink later, we can't go too far."

"It's best to find out their travel times first and act when they're not at school. The success rate will be higher." Kate coughed twice and said in a raspy voice, "But I only know Shetty's schedule."

Jordan Li pursed his lips: "Then I'll go find out Professor Brink's movements. After we integrate the information, we'll find a window when they're both away from school."

"I'll be in a group with Senior then, responsible for knocking out the guards." Wade looked at everyone present and added, "Making them temporarily faint from lack of oxygen is what I'm best at."

Luke put on his clothes and squinted at Kate: "Fine. You'd better not have any crooked ideas!"

Kate lowered her head, her lips twitching a few times: "I... really... I'm sorry."

Wade watched the others detail the infiltration plan, silently calculating in his heart: 'This mission is extremely risky, I can't do it for nothing... Besides saving Sam, I must also get my hands on those experimental records.'

'Having leverage is the only way to further blackmail Shetty and make it easier for me to move within the campus.'
