Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Equivalent Exchange

Four days later, the confinement room.

Wade sat cross-legged on the bed, his fingertips trembling rapidly and irregularly. The shadow on the wall, however, seemed to possess a life of its own, twisting and writhing, stretching and shrinking at times, outlining a blurry yet eerie silhouette.

His hands hadn't actually moved at all; it was entirely the free play of [Phantom Generation].

Outside the alloy door, the crisp clicking of high heels and a series of footsteps rang out.

The door opened, and a lazy, magnetic female voice drifted in: "A new hobby? It seems you haven't been idle these past three days."

A white woman in her early thirties with black hair, wearing a well-tailored charcoal-black suit skirt that accentuated her shapely curves, walked in. It was Mena Fisher, the head of the Red River Institute.

Wade looked up, the [Blood Manipulation] ability bringing a whole new sensory dimension.

The pulsing blood flow beneath Mena's neck was like a clear drumbeat in the darkness. With just a tiny disturbance of thought, this steady rhythm would fall into a frenzy.

'The basic superpower from Gene Acquisition still requires me to continue improving and developing it myself. I can't directly obtain the original owner's superpower practice results.'

He thought for a long time, then his hand movements stopped abruptly, and he revealed a shy smile: "Ms. Mena."

Mena leaned against the doorframe, raised an eyebrow, and smiled: "Guess what the good news is?"

"Ma'am, could it be that my travel application has been approved?" Wade stood up and stepped forward to give her a polite, light hug. "Thank you so much. I won't forget you."

"You guessed right, good boy." Mena patted his back, her face carrying the composure of someone who saw through everything and held all the cards.

Wade's performance at the institute was perfect, his comprehensive evaluation results were excellent, and most importantly, he had a weakness... This was why Mena dared to let him out alone and dared to come here by herself.

Of course, the institute also counted on these children, who were like rootless duckweed, being unable to take a single step in the outside world without this place, eventually returning obediently to their "warm" big family.

"Come to the office with me. There are still some procedures I need to explain clearly to you at the end."

Mena turned and led the way out, instructing the staff waiting at the door: "You two, help him pack his luggage."

...A few minutes later, in the office.

"Close the door." Mena walked behind the desk and pressed a hidden button. The red light on the camera in the corner quietly went out.

Wade closed the heavy alloy door, and the outside sounds vanished instantly. It was eerily quiet.

"Sit." Mena pointed to the chair in front of the desk, leaned against the edge of the table, and picked up a file to flip through casually.

"Godolkin University is truly a wonderful place. Freedom, vitality, infinite possibilities—countless Supes break their necks trying to get in."

"As long as you graduate successfully, you can erase everything from your past and start a new life as a hero... It's perfect, isn't it?"

Wade sat down as told, looking like a well-behaved and obedient boy.

"The institute has provided you with shelter and education, and now it has secured this precious opportunity for you." Mena put down the file and leaned in close to him. "You should know that this world follows the principle of equivalent exchange... Do you want to know the whereabouts of your parents?"

"Yes!" Wade looked directly into her eyes and said sincerely, "Ms. Mena, I will keep your kindness in my heart... When I achieve something in the future, I will surely repay you many times over."

"Do you know what Godolkin University's potential rating for your superpower is? Level 4!" Mena sat in her office chair, took off her suit jacket, and revealed the red camisole dress underneath. "I think you need a strong, powerful anchor... like me."

She clicked the mouse, pointed at the computer screen, and then patted her thigh. "Come here, sit here... Look at your admission letter and full scholarship... You might even become the guardian of some city in the future."

Wade hesitated for a moment, sat down, and lowered his head uneasily: "Ma'am, what can I do for you?"

"Very good, cutie." Mena chuckled twice and reached out to tilt his chin up. "You have to give to get. Those who aren't willing to give even a bit of substance have no future at all."

Wade could clearly smell the lavender scent and the increasingly intense pheromones on her, and he could sense the blood rushing through her carotid artery.

'Getting rid of this woman in front of me would be easy.'

But that would mean... a complete break with Vought Corporation and the normal social order it represented.

'Freedom is right in front of me, only this last step remains.' Wade clenched his fist and then released it, his face flushing red. "I understand, Ms. Mena..."

"Shh—" A winner's smile blossomed on Mena's face. She pulled him into her arms and leaned down to kiss him.

Wade's body went stiff, not daring to make a move... After a long time, Mena finally released him with satisfaction, wiping her moist lips with her fingertip as if she had just tasted a delicious delicacy.

She smoothed her messy hair, took a file folder out of a drawer, and slapped it into Wade's arms. "Now, get out of here and enjoy your university life."

'Finally in my hands.' Wade carefully checked the file, which contained his identification and admission approval documents. The flush on his face disappeared completely.

'I have to let her know that I'm not a puppet to be toyed with at will.' Wade suddenly stepped forward and hugged Mena, who was putting on her clothes.

"What? Still want to..." Mena was startled, then let out a smug snort.

Wade made no further move, only gripping her waist before sliding his hand down to her flat lower abdomen, whispering:

"Ms. Mena, thank you for your generosity."

"I feel... right here, something very tender and warm is pulsing."

His palm began to heat up. Under the operation of [Blood Manipulation], the blood flow in Mena's lower abdomen became clear, and the faint throbbing inside had nowhere to hide.

"So fragile... If I just have a slight thought, you might... 'pop' and rot completely like an overripe tomato."

"Are you crazy? You dare to threaten me!" The smile on Mena's face froze instantly, and the color drained from her face at a visible rate. She writhed her body. "Let go of me right now, do you hear me... let go!"

After struggling for over ten seconds to no avail, the terror in her eyes was replaced by a nearly perverted excitement and frenzy.

"Yes... that's right, I'm a complete slut, a lunatic." Instead, Mena pressed against him again, her breath hot as she spoke. "What are you waiting for, my dangerous little cutie? Do it!"

"Do you dare?" She licked her lips and mocked, "Do you still want that damn freedom and a decent life?"

"..." Wade narrowed his eyes at Mena for a few seconds, then without warning, he leaned down and bit her smooth shoulder.

"Ugh..." Mena tilted her head back in pain, letting out a few cries. Her hand fumbled in her pocket and soon touched a cold button, her fingertip already pressing it halfway.

Bzzz—

'Not good!' Wade's hair stood on end. He immediately let go and slowly licked clean the crimson stain on his lips. "Freedom is very precious... Ma'am, we shall meet again."

With that, he quickly grabbed the file on the desk and walked out of the office without looking back.

The heavy office door made a dull thud as it closed, completely isolating their two worlds.

Mena threw down the remote control device for the anesthetic gas specifically designed for Supes and slumped into her chair alone.

"A Level 3 Supe on the same level as Queen Maeve... what a rare and dangerous creation. Vought Corporation's set of glitzy game rules should have been phased out long ago."

Her body trembled slightly. One hand tightly gripped her still-aching shoulder, while the other rubbed the place that had just been pressed red. "Forget it for this time, there will be plenty of opportunities..."

A moment later, a low, suppressed laugh came from her throat, echoing in the empty office.

"Hmph, since they won't let me touch that little girl Marie, then I'm definitely having this little man!"

Mena pulled up the surveillance on her computer, watching the back of Wade as he left in a car.

"Run! Soon you'll realize that so-called 'freedom' is worth absolutely nothing. You'll be back in the palm of my hand..."
