Liam Summer glanced down at the hem of his shirt being tugged by her. Aldana Candi's hand was small and delicate, pale and fragile, grasping a corner of his clothing, and it melted his heart. His tone softened even more, speaking gently: "Andrew won't go back on his word. Actually, once we leave, someone will release them from the basement. Don't worry, Andrew knows better than to make so many enemies for no reason."
Aldana Candi also knew that the greatest comfort now was Steven Balance's modest assurance. She was relying on this faint promise to gain a bit of illusory peace of mind, but such a verbal commitment was truly insignificant. Who could guarantee that after they left, Steven wouldn't turn his back and execute them all on the island?
No matter how many times she asked, she couldn't truly put her mind at ease.
Liam Summer seemed to understand that verbal promises were of no value. He sighed softly, stroked Aldana Candi's hair, and said gently, "I'll head out first."
