Eric held her, a man who rarely smiled, now wearing a faint smile that melted the cold frost in his eyes.
"But I love you. I made so many mistakes, I want to make it up to you."
He embraced her and stepped back to the window. The woman at the door saw his movement, her eyes chilled, and her heartbeat unknowingly quickened. Her years of training triggered a sense of danger spiraling out of control.
"Stop!"
She shouted sternly and took a few steps forward, confronting him with a gun in her hand.
Eric's confession left Aldana bewildered, unsure of how to respond. Eric, apparently, never intended to have her reply. He glanced at the window and said to Aldana, "I promised Trenton Smith that no matter what happens, I would get you out of his hands."
Aldana's heart skipped a beat. She unconsciously grabbed his arm, her fingertips sinking into his muscle, "What do you intend to do?"
