Chapter 970 - Chapter 970: Steve vs Batroc

One of Batroc's subordinates in the control room reported:

"Batroc, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s radio isn't responding."

Meanwhile, Steve Rogers had just located Batroc's position. After observing the situation, he instructed his team to report in.

"Target confirmed!"

"Strike team in position!"

Receiving timely updates from both sides, Steve asked, "Natasha, what's your status?"

"Natasha, report!"

At that moment, Natasha was still swiftly clearing out the remaining pirates in the engine room. However, the number of pirates there was greater than expected, with three still left to handle.

"Hold on!"

Natasha replied briefly, then delivered a flying kick to take down one pirate, followed by breaking the wrist of another who was holding a gun.

"Argh!"

Taking advantage of the moment, she executed a flawless Thomas spin throw on the last pirate.

Bang!

Two pirates lay lifeless, while the one with the broken wrist was still writhing in pain, clutching his injury.

Without hesitation, Natasha grabbed a steel pipe from a nearby rack and struck the pirate on the head.

Thud!

The pirate collapsed instantly. Natasha casually tossed the pipe aside and reported, "Engine room secured."

In the kitchen-

Sitwell spotted a fleeting glimpse of a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent outside the window and thought to himself, 'Rescue's here.'

The pirate leader guarding the hostages barked out, "Time's up! Who wants to die first?"

He pointed at one of his men and ordered, "You, grab that woman!"

As Steve received confirmation that everyone was in position, he gave the command, "Listen to my signal—three, two, one."

As the countdown ended, the strike team and Rumlow launched their assault.

Several pirates in the kitchen were immediately gunned down, leaving only the leader unharmed. The sudden loss of his crew disoriented him as he spun around wildly, aiming his weapon at unseen threats.

Bang!

The door behind him was blown open with an explosion. Before the pirate leader could raise his rifle, Rumlow shot him dead with a single bullet.

Sitwell, observing the scene, put on a facade and remarked, "I told you, S.H.I.E.L.D. doesn't negotiate."

But the dead pirate was no longer around to hear his words.

In the control room-

"Hello?"

"Batroc, no response from the others. We can't reach them."

Sensing that something was wrong, Batroc began to consider his options when one of his subordinates suddenly shouted, "Look out!"

At that moment, Steve Rogers leaped into action, hurling his shield with precision as a weapon.

Smack!

The glass in the control room shattered as Steve's shield smashed through it. Batroc, reacting swiftly, ducked to avoid the projectile.

Unfortunately, the subordinate who had warned him wasn't as lucky—the shield's sharp edge sliced through his neck before embedding itself in a metal cabinet behind him.

Steve leaped through the broken window into the room. Seizing the opportunity while Steve was still off balance, Batroc delivered a powerful kick.

Thud!

The forceful blow sent Steve flying across the room. However, instead of pressing his advantage, Batroc turned and bolted toward the exit.

Rising to his feet, Steve brushed the dust off his uniform. It was clear Batroc's strength wasn't normal. Glancing at his shield lodged in the metal cabinet, he pulled it free, slung it onto his back, and gave chase.

Elsewhere-

After clearing out the kitchen and securing the hostages, Rumlow reported over the comms:

"Hostages are being evacuated."

"Romanoff hasn't regrouped yet, Captain."

"Hostile resistance continues."

Hearing the report and the gunfire and screams from Rumlow's position, Steve responded immediately:

"Natasha, Batroc's on the run."

"He's confirmed to have taken the super-soldier serum."

"Loop around to Rumlow's position and ensure the hostages' safety."

"Natasha?"

Just as Steve reached the deck in pursuit, Batroc ambushed him.

Launching into the air, Batroc aimed a flying kick directly at Steve with a force of 5 tons behind it.

Steve barely managed to raise his shield in time to block the strike, but the impact sent him tumbling backward.

Rolling across the deck, Steve tried to get up, only for Batroc to close the gap with another kick. Steve blocked it with his shield again, only to be sent flying a second time.

Batroc followed up with a third, downward stomp aimed between Steve's legs.

Even with his enhanced reflexes, Steve barely avoided a direct hit. A cold sweat ran down his back as he thought to himself, 'Thank God. I'm not ready to lose that part of me.'

Scrambling to his feet, Steve braced himself as Batroc launched another flurry of attacks.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

Blow after blow hammered against Steve's shield. Though unrelenting, none of Batroc's strikes managed to break through Steve's defense.

Seeing an opening, Steve retaliated, slamming his shield into Batroc with enough force to send him flying six meters.

Despite the impact, Batroc recovered quickly, performing a kip-up to get back on his feet. Without hesitation, he leapt at Steve again, launching a combination of punches and kicks.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

Steve seized an opening. He closed the gap and delivered a series of knee strikes before flipping Batroc backward in a powerful throw.

Using the momentum, Batroc rolled several times to dissipate the force and regain his footing. Straightening up, he glared at Steve. Believing the shield was the only reason his attacks hadn't landed effectively, Batroc resorted to taunts.

"Without your fancy gear, you're just a poser, aren't you?"

Steve slid the shield onto his back, took off his helmet, and tossed it aside.

"Why don't you find out?"

Batroc smirked, thinking Steve had foolishly given up his advantage. Without hesitation, he charged forward.

This time, however, Steve was entirely focused.

He met each of Batroc's punches with speed and precision, countering them before they could land.

"Ugh—ah!"

Batroc grunted in pain as his fists repeatedly clashed with Steve's stronger and faster strikes. Before he could recover, Steve delivered a sharp elbow strike to his face.

Batroc shifted to kicking, but Steve was quicker. Before Batroc could fully raise his leg, Steve landed a precise kick to his shin.

Crack!

The sickening sound of a bone snapping echoed. Batroc stumbled, but he still tried to resist. Steve ended it with a spinning kick, knocking him to the ground.

Even then, Batroc stubbornly pushed himself back up.

Steve didn't wait. He rushed forward, grabbed Batroc, and slammed him through the door behind them, pinning him to the ground.

With a powerful punch to the face, Steve finally knocked Batroc unconscious.
