I frowned as the Dog's Shadow's laughter faded away slowly. What did he mean by we fell for it? Did Bulgae goad us into using the Orb of Taahid?
Mother fell to one knee and panted.
"Mother!" I yelled, rushing over to her. Her red hair was now half white.
She smiled as she looked up at me. "Hyun-Ah. You're really alive. I was wondering if the fatigue was making me hallucinate."
I knelt beside her, wrapping a supportive arm around her trembling shoulders. Her body was cold. The life force she had sacrificed to bridge the broken conduits had taken a heavy toll.
"I'm here, Mother," I said softly, my voice catching in my throat as my eyes lingered on her snow-white locks. "The Erebus is sealed. You did it."
