Chapter 4 - Leaving for College / challenge Accepted

This chapter really pushes the emotional stakes higher. The public announcement, the mate trial, and the marking scene all make the relationship feel intense and complicated. What works especially well is that Siera still keeps control of her own future instead of giving up her goals because of the mate bond. That tension between independence and destiny is carrying the story.

I cleaned up the pacing, grammar, and dialogue flow while keeping the possessive/toxic chemistry you're aiming for without making it overly explicit.

Today was the day I finally left for the South.

The beginning of my college education.

And the beginning of my mate trial with the most frustrating Alpha Junior alive.

After speaking with Alpha Lee and Luna Gabrielle, they officially approved the trial. Surprisingly, Luna Gabby admitted she wished something like this had existed when she and Alpha Lee were younger.

Honestly?

That explained a lot.

The way Luna Gabby looked at Alpha Lee whenever he acted arrogant told me everything I needed to know. Apparently toxic Alpha behavior ran in the bloodline.

The entire pack had gathered inside the pack house for the announcement.

I stood beside my parents while Johnthan leaned against the wall nearby with his arms crossed, trying to look calm even though I could feel his wolf practically clawing at the bond between us.

"Alright, everyone," Alpha Lee announced, his voice carrying through the room. "We are gathered tonight to discuss an important matter that may shock some of you."

His eyes flickered toward a group of overly dressed she-wolves near the back.

"Especially the females who have been eyeing the Luna position and attempting to pursue my son."

Several girls immediately looked offended.

Luna Gabrielle stepped forward with a satisfied smile.

"Let's get this out of the way first," she said smoothly. "My son's mate is none other than Siera Dawson."

The room exploded into whispers.

"Yes, we know they've basically grown up together," Luna Gabby continued. "And yes, they fight like water and oil. But the Moon Goddess has plans for all of us."

Alpha Lee nodded proudly.

"That's right. Siera Dawson is my future daughter-in-law."

I nearly choked hearing him say it out loud.

"She has earned a full scholarship and early admission into a college in the South. I will not reveal the location because I refuse to have jealous females harassing her."

Several she-wolves suddenly looked guilty.

"However," Alpha Lee continued, "before officially stepping into their future roles, Siera has proposed something unique."

Luna Gabby smiled knowingly.

"A mate trial."

The room immediately went silent.

Alpha Lee folded his hands behind his back. "For the next four years, Siera will attend college while Johnthan completes his Alpha training here. During that time, both of them will remain loyal to each other despite the distance."

"It is a test of trust, honor, restraint, and commitment beyond the mate bond itself," Luna Gabby added.

Alpha Lee looked toward me. "Siera, you may speak."

I stepped forward and took a breath.

"The mate trial is meant to test whether your mate remains truthful and loyal despite temptation," I explained. "Not just physically, but emotionally and mentally too."

The crowd listened carefully.

"I know being Alpha means Johnthan needs a strong Luna beside him," I continued, "but this trial is also meant to strengthen us individually before we're forced into leadership together."

I paused before narrowing my eyes toward the crowd of she-wolves.

"And let me make something very clear."

The room went dead silent.

"I know some of you are waiting for me to leave so you can try something with my mate."

Several girls suddenly avoided eye contact.

"If any of you lay a single finger on him, you will regret it."

A few warriors in training behind me snorted, already knowing I wasn't bluffing.

"I have the future Luna on my side," I continued sweetly, "and the warriors."

The room immediately shifted uncomfortably.

Then I slowly turned toward Johnthan.

"As for you, Alpha Junior..."

His eyes locked onto mine instantly.

"If I smell another female wolf on you, you won't have an heir until you're at least thirty-five."

The room gasped.

Johnthan stared at me with the exact expression he used during training whenever someone challenged him.

Deadly.

Cold.

Interested.

"Imagine how much torture that would be for you," I finished with a smile.

A dangerous grin slowly spread across his face.

I cleared my throat and grabbed my bags.

"Now, unfortunately, I have a flight to catch."

I bowed respectfully toward Alpha Lee and Luna Gabrielle.

"Alpha Lee. Lady Luna."

Then I headed toward the doors of the pack house.

Footsteps followed behind me.

I turned expecting Johnthan.

Instead, it was Jason, Jasmin, and Thomas—with Johnthan lingering a few steps behind them.

"You all know I hate goodbyes," I said suspiciously. "So why aren't you still inside?"

Jasmin smirked.

"Because we're not exactly saying goodbye."

Thomas grinned next. "We all got accepted into colleges in the South too."

My jaw dropped.

"You've got to be kidding me."

Jason awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck while holding Jasmin's hand.

"I also needed to tell you something."

I narrowed my eyes instantly.

"Please don't tell me you two are mates too."

Jasmin's smile widened.

Jason looked like he'd rather step on nails barefoot.

I groaned dramatically.

"Oh my Goddess."

I glanced toward Johnthan, who looked increasingly impatient standing off to the side.

"Fine," I sighed. "I accept the two of you as a mated pair. But the same rules apply to you both. Focus on your futures first."

Jason looked relieved.

"Alright everyone," I said, waving them off before my emotions could catch up to me. "It's time for me to go."

I started walking again.

Only one set of footsteps followed this time.

I sighed heavily, already preparing myself for another possessive speech.

Instead, the second I turned around, Johnthan grabbed me and kissed me.

Hard.

The kiss stole every thought from my head instantly.

It wasn't gentle or careful.

It was heated, possessive, desperate—like he was accepting my challenge without saying the words aloud.

I tried pushing him away at first, but the mate bond only made the sparks between us stronger.

The entire world blurred around us.

"John..." I whispered breathlessly against his lips. "I have to go or I'll miss my fl—"

Before I could finish speaking, a sharp sting spread across my neck.

My breath caught.

He marked me.

Right there in front of everyone.

Johnthan pressed his forehead against mine afterward, his voice low and rough beside my ear.

"Now I really don't have a problem waiting a few years for you."

Heat rushed through me as his fingers brushed the fresh mark.

"You know once it heals," he whispered, "it's going to look like a crescent moon outlined in our pack colors."

Oh, he wanted to play dirty?

Fine.

I grabbed his shirt and pulled him closer.

I knew every weak spot Johnthan had, even if he'd never admit it.

My fingers slid lightly against his lower spine.

His entire body immediately tensed.

There it was.

The weakness.

A quiet growl escaped his throat as I leaned closer and sank my canines into his neck just enough to leave my own mark behind.

His grip on my waist tightened instantly.

For one dangerous second, I thought he might drag me right back into his arms and refuse to let me leave.

Instead, I stepped back slowly with a smug smile.

Then I turned and ran toward the waiting car before he could recover.

The last thing I heard before the driver sped toward the airport was Johnthan cursing under his breath while the bond between us practically burned alive.
