Chapter 740 - Chapter 737 Deal

"A dragon? What does it look like?" Lucas frowned. Many things came to mind, such as the winged lizard dragons mentioned in fantasy novels.

"It looks a bit like the bone dragons in the dinosaur museum, the biggest one," Rhea said coolly. She also hadn't expected Sedona City to possess dragon bones.

"A Tyrannosaurus Rex? A dinosaur?" Lucas was somewhat in disbelief. Could dinosaurs actually exist in this world?

It must be known that for dinosaurs to become fossils, it takes at least tens of millions of years. For such a species to survive until now was truly unbelievable.

He thought of the many rumors back on Earth, claiming that dinosaurs still survived in some corner of the world—on some island in the ocean, or in some underground cavern.

There were even some experts and professors who claimed that dinosaurs were also evolving, gradually adapting to a new environment and entering the oceans.

"Master? What's wrong?" Mina noticed Lucas staring off into space.

"Nothing." Lucas shook his head. Looking at Rhea, he asked curiously, "What kind of place does that dragon live in?"

"It has the volcano you mentioned, constantly spewing smoke. The dragon lives in a valley in that area, and within the valley is a cavern—an incredibly massive one." Rhea sighed, saying helplessly, "Also, it's not cold there even in winter. It's just that the beasts there are all huge and incredibly ferocious."

If it weren't for the fact that the beasts were too large and difficult to hunt, she would have brought her tribe to live there. After all, there were no humans around.

"Oh? An environment like that?" Lucas nodded, suddenly beginning to understand how dinosaurs could have survived.

A natural, pristine environment, with a nearby volcano providing heat to maintain a stable climate. As long as the food chain wasn't destroyed, it was entirely possible for a species to sustain itself.

Of course, all of this was just Lucas's speculation. Moreover, the dinosaurs he had seen were only fossils; he didn't actually know what a living dinosaur looked like.

The appearance of dinosaurs on Earth was also merely deduced and modeled from fossils. Who knew what the dinosaurs of this era looked like?

He wasn't a biologist or an archaeologist; everything was just a guess. Therefore, if he had the chance, he wanted to go see the dinosaurs for himself. It would be best to take a few photos and maybe catch a few baby dinosaurs to keep as pets.

"Lord Lucas, are there any weapons that can kill a dragon?" Rhea asked coolly.

"Kill a dragon?" Lucas raised an eyebrow, only now recalling that the reason Rhea had previously left Amelia behind and departed was to complete a bounty mission to slay a dragon.

"Yes, I want revenge," Rhea said icily. Several of her comrades had died, all crushed by that dragon's jaws and tail.

Even she had been severely injured, forced to hide in that place for several months before finally escaping.

"Yes, there are several weapons that could allow you to kill a dragon," Lucas said with certainty.

The most famous among them was the Calamity Mod series of sniper ballistas. They already had the first generation, the Calamity Mod No. 1 Sniper Ballista, which was modified from a standard siege ballista. It was designed for air-to-ground sniping and was intended to be mounted as an anti-enemy weapon on future aerial fortresses—namely, airships.

It was forged entirely from refined steel and used two-meter-long spears as bolts. When fired, it could easily tear through several horses and send them flying.

Aside from Calamity Mod No. 1, there was also the conceptual Calamity Mod No. 2, which was still in the design phase. It was a dense air-to-ground arrow array designed to shower spears from high altitudes, using gravity to accelerate them and kill enemies. Unleashing a volley over a dense formation of enemies would pin both men and horses to the ground.

The Research Department was studying weapons like these, mainly based on concepts provided by Lucas. He had watched quite a bit of anime and was modifying some of the ideas he'd seen in them.

It was better not to use gunpowder if possible. Problems that could be solved with cold weapons were best solved with cold weapons. After all, with just cold weapons alone, no one was his match anymore. He didn't want to start a war involving firearms too early; his population was simply too small to withstand the devastation of gunpowder.

"Can you give me one? I want to kill that dragon." Rhea stepped forward, her emotions running a bit high.

"One person can't carry it," Lucas shook his head. The Calamity Mod series weapons were massive and heavy, requiring at least several people just to lift them.

He truly wasn't afraid of large prey at all; he had far too many ways to deal with them, provided he was prepared.

He had people researching the Calamity Mod series mainly to prepare for future sea voyages. There were plenty of behemoths in the ocean, and as for enemy ships, just lodging a few of those spears into a hull would be enough to cause it to take on water and sink.

"I can have a few people carry it," Rhea quickly said.

"No, there's a better way to kill a dragon," Lucas shook his head. Using the Calamity Mod No. 1 Sniper Ballista might be able to kill a dinosaur.

However, the Calamity Mod No. 1 was still undergoing modifications to remove some redundant components, so it couldn't be deployed in actual combat yet.

"What way?" Rhea asked urgently.

"Use a heavy military crossbow. Three people are enough to operate it—two to carry it, and you to fire it. Combined with a powerful tranquilizer, it will be more than enough to bring down the dragon," Lucas said casually.

This method would require wearing it down slowly, tranquilizing the dinosaur first, and then figuring out how to kill it.

"What is a tranquilizer?" Rhea asked in confusion, hearing the word for the first time.

"A potion that makes people faint and unable to move," Lucas said simply. As long as the dose of a strong tranquilizer was large enough, it could absolutely bring down a dinosaur.

"Really?" Rhea's eyes lit up.

"Of course. This time, take some people and go fetch some things from the volcano for me. You can also scout out the situation. Next time, I'll allow you to take the weapons with you," Lucas said evenly.

"Deal," Rhea agreed without hesitation.
