Step, step...
Annie led Perry and Sally outside the castle, preparing to go for a stroll through the streets.
"That Lucas doesn't seem so hard to talk to after all," Sally sighed with emotion. Her opinion of human nobles had improved a little bit.
"Of course, the Master is a very good noble," Annie praised, skipping along as she walked.
"Lucas probably agreed so easily for Annie's sake," Perry said softly.
One must know that one thousand eight hundred spears weren't just pieces of wood; iron was a very precious commodity.
She had previously met with the envoy sent by Greena and discussed this very issue. The result was an offer to exchange two thousand warhorses for one thousand eight hundred spears, which made her so angry she wanted to kill someone.
"I don't think so," Annie raised an eyebrow, the corners of her mouth curling up, showing she was in a very good mood.
"Whether he did or not is no longer important," Perry chuckled softly. She didn't want to dwell on it too much. Helping to obstruct Greena wasn't very difficult for her; she didn't like the guy anyway.
"Big Sister, come on, I'll take you guys to see something good." Annie grabbed the lion-eared girl's hand and ran toward the horse racing track.
"Eh? Eh? Eh?"
Perry was pulled along, running in a daze, while Sally followed easily behind. They quickly arrived outside the gates of the horse racing track.
"Run faster, run faster... I'm just missing this one race to win three in a row!"
"Number Seven, Number Seven..."
"..."
Passionate shouts echoed from the racing track. Even from a distance, they could hear some people yelling hysterically.
"What's inside? An arena?" Perry asked in a deep voice, standing at the gate and frowning at Annie.
Gladiatorial arenas were very popular in the Valtoria Kingdom. In fact, all beastkin kingdoms had arenas; they were places for criminals to fight to the death and a way to entertain beastkin nobles.
She had heard that humans also had arenas, but they used beastkin to fight, and many ordinary beastkin slaves had died in those arenas.
"No, how could it be an arena?" Annie rolled her eyes, pulling Perry through the gate, saying, "Come in and see for yourself."
"..." Perry followed her inside with a serious face. Then, she saw many people standing up and waving their arms, among them quite a few beastkin. They all tightly clutched a slip of paper in their hands, their expressions extremely excited.
She turned her head to look at the other side, her eyes shrinking slightly as she watched nine horses galloping wildly at speeds much faster than warhorses.
"Big Sister, this is a horse racing track, a place for people to be entertained," Annie chuckled softly. She found the yelling crowd very amusing to watch.
"A place for entertainment?" Perry blanked for a moment. Just watching horses run could be considered entertainment?
"Hehe... They're all here to try their luck, hoping to get rich overnight." Annie shrugged. This racing track generated over a dozen gold coins in revenue for Sedona City every day, mostly from nobles and merchants placing bets.
"What do you mean?" Perry didn't understand; she had never seen this kind of horse racing model before.
"It means people pay coins to bet on which number will win..." Annie explained the betting process, as well as the rules, the golden saddle, and so on.
"Are you saying that as long as we send someone and a racehorse over, and win a hundred races, we can get a saddle made of solid gold?" Perry's eyes lit up. This was a pretty good challenge, and she liked interesting challenges.
"Yeah," Annie nodded. Seeing the lion-eared girl's eager expression, she asked hesitantly, "Big Sister, you aren't thinking of sending someone to participate, are you?"
"Of course, this is practically a free golden saddle." Perry proudly raised her chin. She had a few incredibly formidable warhorses; if she sent them over, they could definitely win a hundred races.
"Uh..." Seeing her fiercely confident Big Sister, Annie wondered if she should reveal the Master's trick. After thinking about it, she decided it was best not to say anything. What if she actually won?
"Your Highness Annie, are there any other places to place bets like this?" Sally lost interest after watching for a while. She rode horses every day on the grasslands, so there was nothing special to see.
"There are also boxing matches..." Annie introduced briefly. "In the winter, there are even field hockey games..."
She had once seen some planning documents on the Master's desk. There were several other types of competitions in preparation, and she had heard of things like rugby and baseball games... and so on.
"Sedona City really is interesting." Sally was intrigued enough to want to go take a look.
"No wonder..." Perry finally understood why the beastkin from her tribe didn't want to stay. This Sedona City was simply too attractive.
She pondered whether she should organize horse races and boxing matches back in the tribe, but then dismissed the idea. That alone would hardly be enough to keep people; there definitely needed to be something more decisive.
"Let's go, let's get something to eat." Annie led the two away from the horse racing track and began popping in and out of the major shops. Given their appetites, they could easily eat their way through all the shops in Sedona City.
"Wow! That thing called pizza earlier was really delicious. I'm coming back to eat it again tomorrow." Sally left the pizza shop, looking back with almost every step.
"This place selling noodles is pretty good. How is it made? It would be great if we could popularize this in the tribe." Perry licked her lips; she wanted to bring everything good she saw back to the tribe.
"Huh? This place is called barbecue?"
"Whoa! It's actually mutton from our region."
"My god, how is this so delicious? The stuff I used to eat was practically..."
Sally sat down in the newly opened barbecue shop, her exclamations never ceasing.
"..." Perry and Annie exchanged a glance and decided they wouldn't bring the monkey-eared girl out with them next time. It felt way too embarrassing.
