Or rather, the Sects that sided with the two located all over the continent, not them directly.
The attackers were hired hands and rogue cultivators that were in abundance on the continent now, so there was no evidence to link them to anyone, but the whole continent, which by morning was buzzing with these news, knew who was behind it.
The move was aimed at humiliation more than real damage, saying "you can't even protect your allies", as well as to send a message to those allies that they might have "bet on the wrong horse". Of course, it does not mean that chipping away at strength wasn't at all part of it.
But of the two, only the Crystal Wood Sect's positions suffered, as the allies of the Ember Palm Pavilion were seemingly ready for the attacks, with fully activated Protective Formations and organized battle-ready squadrons of Sect Protectors and Elders that caught the ambushers off-guard instead.
