'It's weird, and she escaped because she's uncomfortable?' The silver-haired man thought, but then his expression turned weird. 'Or does she think the student I 'like' is herself?'
Girls at this age are always fantasizing. He can't really blame her- though he admits it's entertaining.
Shaking his head, he turned and looked at the remaining girl:
"And what about you, Hitomi?"
"Huh?!"
The green-haired girl flinched, caught off guard by his sudden question.
"Me? I guess I should go home too."
Hitomi regained composure and replied calmly.
She is often confessed to at school, so she's not as flustered as Sayaka.
"Then see you tomorrow."
Adam lightly waved at her with a smile.
"Mhm, see you tomorrow, Mr. Adam." She hummed, and then she pinched the corners of her skirt and gave him a dignified bow. "Thank you for your help today. I will prepare a thank-you gift for you tomorrow."
He has helped them so much, yet they have done nothing for him. To Hitomi, this is unacceptable.
"No need." He shrugged, uncaring. Their companionship is more than enough for a bored individual like him. "Between us, there's no need for such formalities."
'Between us…'
These words made Hitomi even more certain of her guess that Adam likes her.
"T-that....."
And this discovery made her fingers twitch in nervousness. Despite being used to situations like this, she now felt strangely shy.
"Hmm?" Adam raised an eyebrow in puzzlement again. "Is there anything else?"
Her green eyes shook around, reflecting the whiteness of the hospital as she avoided gazing at him.
"I don't actually dislike you!"
Hitomi covered her flushed face with her schoolbag-
"Ah?"
Before Adam could react, she turned away and ran towards the exit- just like Sayaka.
"...."
The silver-haired man's expression turned weird. If he still didn't understand what was going on after this, then he'd be no better than a dense Japanese protagonist.
"How interesting. If only I had such charisma in my previous life…."
Adam sighed in regret.
Some things, you get only when you don't need them.
Is this what true harem protagonists feel? Not even trying, yet still making girls fall for them?
"I don't understand."
A faint cutesy voice resounded through the hospital.
Though the hospital was busy as always, with nurses and patients moving about, no one seemed to notice this voice that was out of place.
"What's the point of you doing this?"
Kyubey appeared seemingly out of the air. With a light step, it floated onto the chair next to the seated silver-haired boy.
Just like its voice that echoed throughout the whole hospital, its presence was noticed by naught.
Even the two nurses that passed by in front of Adam carrying a patient on a stretcher didn't glance at the strange cat and rabbit fusion animal that was casually swinging its tail.
"Your question itself shows that you don't understand human emotions."
The silver haired man looked towards the right, his blue eyes meeting Kyubey's emotionless red ones.
"Human emotions?"
The Incubator chewed on the words. Then, it looked towards the entrance of the hospital- not, it looked beyond it, staring at the two gossiping girls that had both run away and met each other on the road
"You mean the special feelings those two people are generating for you?"
For the Incubator who gazes at the two girls from a higher dimension, they can clearly see that pure pink energy.
The energy signifying 'love' spontaneously appears around Hitomi and Sayaka. Under an unknown force, it gathers and moves towards Adam, flowing into an unknown area in his heart.
"Right, you play with emotional energy."
Adam exhaled slowly.
"Of course you can sense it."
The silver haired man put a hand over his chest, at the place where his heart is.
Through his flesh, Adam feels his heart beat slowly yet powerfully. Around it, a gentle force is pouring into it, making him feel relaxed all over.
"So you went through all this trouble, even having me lure a witch, just for the two of them?" Curious and curious. The incubators have not felt such genuine curiosity in a long time- even though the way they feel 'curiosity' is not the same as a human.. "Or is it because you want that pure emotional energy?"
It is asking because it genuinely does not know the answer. Though emotional energy is powerful, this outsider shouldn't particularly need it. From its observation, the foreigner is merely 'curious'.
"You don't understand humans." Adam lowered his hand. "I just wanted to do it, so I did it. I don't need a reason. I just felt like it."
Humans are like this. Sometimes, they don't need a reason to do something.
"Of course, though I might not be able to accept their feelings…" Adam spread his hands outwards with a grin. "Seeing them happy and feeling their gratitude is a reward by itself."
"Isn't there an easier way? You can use that ability you used on that witch."
Kyubey's ears twitched as it recalled that hypnotic ability that it couldn't decipher.
"Why would I do that? What's the point of having two dolls?" Adam looked at the Incubator as though he was staring at an idiot. "Besides, aren't you being too nosy?"
How absurd. Only stupid NEET virgins with problems in their brains would like hypnotized girls that can only be used to vent desire.
What's the point of having a girl if you erase her individuality? At that point, just use your hands or a sexdoll.
"I see. However, we do have to express this:" It nodded in understanding and continued(though how much it actually understood is up for debate) "We admire you for getting the hang of sensing and storing emotional energy so fast. You haven't even obtained the materials necessary to process it."
It gave him the technology, yet this outsider learned to harness emotional energy without its help. This is very unexpected.
Is it an inner trait of frequent dimensional travelers to grasp the laws of each world so quickly? The question was posed to the hivemind, however, the answer is: Inconclusive. Insufficient sample size.
"It's not that hard, Incubator."
A pinkish light flashed in Adam's cosmic blue eyes momentarily.
"I have to say, the rules of your world are truly weird." He looked upwards, being aware of a certain higher dimension through his now working [Omniscient(Fake)] skill. "Some universes aren't so lucky as to have an 'emotions generate energy' rule."
"Yes. Some might have better alternatives."
After saying this, the rabbit-cat gave him a long look. Seeing him looking at it with a blank look, it turned around and disappeared as if it was never there.
After it disappeared, nothing changed. Just like how no one noticed its appeared, nobody noticed its disappearance
'Want to get info for free? Dream on.'
The foreigner clicked his tongue.
Realizing that there was no reason to stay here any longer, he stood up, tucked his hands in his pockets, and walked out of the hospital like a normal person
….
As he was walking towards Homura's home, Adam pondered on the weird development of humanity.
In this world, the universe is already on its last dregs. Yet humanity doesn't seem to have existed for billions or trillions of years.
'Why has it evolved so late?' Adam held his chin in thought. 'Did Kyubey intentionally make humanity only develop so late so they can extract emotional energy, or…..'
Suddenly, he thought of a chilling conclusion that sent shivers down his spine.
'The Incubators are the 'original' humanity….?'
The silver haired man has no evidence, and no indication to think so. He's only relying on a feeling.
Yet that conclusion that is based on 'feeling' made his unique skill [Chosen One] thrum-
