Shen Jia wandered aimlessly through the streets until her legs began aching before finally collapsing onto the edge of a sidewalk. The evening air had turned cold by then. A loud growl suddenly came from her stomach, making her instinctively press a hand over it in embarrassment even though nobody around her was paying attention.
She was starving, but she had no money.
Looking bitterly toward the cloudy sky, she muttered under her breath, "Would it kill God to let me win once?"
The building directly behind her belonged to one of the Ding family's luxury hotels.
Within minutes, a security guard approached with visible irritation already written across his face.
"You can't sit here," he snapped.
Shen Jia frowned immediately. "Why not?"
"Move somewhere else." His eyes swept dismissively over her old uniform. "We don't allow loitering."
Her pride immediately flared. "Loitering? I'm literally just sitting here!"
"You're blocking the entrance."
