--This Chapter is written in Maya's POV--
I woke up to an unfamiliar ceiling.
I thought I had grown used to this feeling after so many years of moving from house to house, but even after the AOTG war started, I hated being unable to stay in one place for long.
After so many different ceilings, the image of my familiar one began to blur, and I feared I would no longer know what it was supposed to look like.
Not even the thought that the world was home soothed my heart this morning. After all, I had never been so far away.
Despite how much I loved staying home, destiny wasn't kind to me in that regard.
And yet, I always kept my hopes up, wishing I'd hear a familiar voice reply to my daily 'good morning'.
Catherine: "Good morning."
My nails almost scratched my eyes as I rubbed them.
Kneeling beside the bed, behind a small table where a plate of cookies and a glass of milk sat untouched, a vampire's faint voice cut through my morning mumbling.
Maya: "...Are these for me?"
