Tommy slammed into the invisible barrier at full speed. The impact rattled his teeth and sent him stumbling backward. The wall was solid, more like hitting compressed rubber, and it pushed back with equal force.
"Foolish human." The devil's lipless mouth twisted into something approximating a grin. "Did you think I would allow you close? We devils are not like the demons you may have faced. Our strength lies not in claw and fang, but in the arts of Mana. And I have spent centuries perfecting mine."
