A PORCELAIN WHITE CARRIAGE with a dark green door and window frames, drawn by two phantom horses travels down a well traversed dirt road.
Six occupants ride in comfort. A couple of them have nodded off.
One reads over a report about a goblin nest, led by a goblin lord.
Another is busy writing, and the last two stare absently out the windows watching the forest roll by.
The forest gives way to an open meadow. It's not long till the carriage passes through a grand entryway made from thick wooden posts spanning into a solid overhead beam.
Mounted in the center of the beam is a triangular, leather-covered heater shield, adorned with a red cross pattée on a white background.
The carriage draws to a stop outside a two-story gray stone blockhouse with an attached eight and a half meter tall hexagonal watchtower. It sits along the border of Britannia, The Netherlands empires, and a stones throw away from the Marijuana Empire.
Blockhouse: is a small fortification, usually consisting of one or more rooms with loopholes, allowing its defenders to fire in various directions. It is usually an isolated fort serving as a defensive strong point.
Opening the carriage's door Corym steps out into the late afternoon sun.

"How and where did you find this type of carriage?" Inquired Oz.
"It was in a red item scroll." Replied Corym.
Dale then adds, "it was originally a gray scroll that turned red after Abby picked it up."
"She has graciously loaned it to me for the time being. Oh that reminds me, Dale, did you ever hear back from the Research Guild about this scroll?"
"Yes. It's something that they haven't heard of and requested a detailed report on the matter. However, I was unable to write on up. Until now that is."
"I've never heard of a scroll changing colors before. How about you Fiora? Have you ever heard of such a thing happening?" Asked Oz.
But Fiora isn't listening. She's surveying the area.
"Something's not right. Why hasn't anyone come out to greet us?"
Hearing the concern in his mother's voice Corym asks, "What's wrong?"
The others pick up on this exchange and cut the chitchat to listen.
"This is a Templar blockhouse. It's always manned by ten soldiers around the clock at all times. Five on dayshift and five on nightshift. And yet no one has come out.
"I personally oversaw the deforestation of this area to ensure anyone in the watchtower would have a clear three-sixty view of the area.
"So they definitely would've seen us approaching from a distance and informed their commander of our arrival."
Holly holds up her hands and closes her eyes. With her eyes still closed she says, "the barrier is still active."
"Silver, Poppy, split up and search the surrounding area. Don't forget the forest."
"On it."
"Roger that."
"Corin, you're with me. The rest of you stay here, but please aid Poppy or Silver if they need it."
Fiora calmly gives her orders as she heads for the blockhouse door; Corin follows.
Oz, sniffs the air, "I don't detect anything out of the ordinary."
Bonaluria hops onto the roof of the carriage where everyone's luggage is at. "I don't see or hear anything, either."
Dale asks, "Holly, how far out does the barrier for this blockhouse go?"
"One meter up from the top of the watchtower and expanding outwards by one meter.
Even underground it's protected by a one meter barrier. However I can change that as I see fit."
As Holly says this she's staring daggers up at Bonaluria who has her back to her.
But Bonaluria is an elf, and of course she heard everything.
****
Once inside Fiora signals Corin to head upstairs and up to the tower. Corin nods and heads up.
Fiora does a slow lap of the first floor. Looking for any clue as to what may have transpired here.
The first floor is an open floor concept with a sitting room and fireplace, kitchen, and dining room. The washroom is just past the stairs leading up to the second floor.
There's a storage closet underneath the stairs. Each room has basic furnishings.
Satisfied nothing's amiss—aside from the missing soldiers, Fiora heads upstairs.
The second floor is the soldiers' sleeping quarters. The CO, (Commanding Officer) and the XO, (Executive Officer) also have their own offices up here.
A name plate hangs on each door identifying the room's occupant.
These rooms are also furnished with the basics: a single bed, an armoire, a desk and chair, a lamp, along with some personal effects of the soldier.
Corin appears at the bottom of another set of stairs at the opposite end of the floor. Having searched and found nothing up in the watchtower.
Time ticks by like molasses for everyone waiting outside, ever on alert for an enemy attack. Eventually from the doorway Fiora gives the all clear and beckons for them to come inside.
Once inside Fiora reports that no one is here and nothing seems out of the ordinary.
"So where the hell is everyone?" Mutters Dale.
"I'll use my World Sight skill to locate them."
"Are you sure you want to do that?"
"Yes Oz I'm sure." Replied Corym.
"But prolonged usage could leave you permanently blind in both eyes."
"A small price to pay for finding the missing Templar soldiers and the missing kids."
"Wait, hold up a second." Interjects Bonaluria. "Corym, what kind of skill do you have that'll cost you your sight?"
"Don't tell her shit, Corym. Not until she tells us about her skill that redirects people or whatever the hell it does when she's attacked."
Corym ignores his mother. "World Sight."
Fiora mumbles under her breath, "you damn fool."
Extremely Rare Skill "World Sight."
An extremely rare skill that only two people currently have.
However, constant usage causes deterioration of both eyes leading to blindness. Very little is known about this skill.
"There's… nothing."
"What do you mean nothing?" Asked Fiora.
"Just that. The only ones around are us here in this building, and Silver and Poppy out in the woods. I don't even see a corpse."
"Okay got it. Now deactivate your skill."
"Not yet. I need to gather everyone's aura signature so I can narrow down the location of the missing kids."
Corym looks at Oz first. "Your aura is blue, green, and turquoise."
"You can see our auras? And I have three of them?"
"You do. It's not that uncommon to have multiple auras. Some auras appear stronger than others while some are evenly balanced like yours are."
"How do you know so much about auras?"
"I'll explain it later. Now for the rest of you. Dale yours is navy, beige, and black. For Bonaluria it's mint, peach, and silver."
"Don't you mean black, blacker, and blackest?"
Ignoring his mother, Corym closes his eyes, getting an entire view of the world. His mind is flooded with so much information he almost passes out.
"𝐺𝑜𝑡…𝑡𝑜 𝑝𝑢𝑠ℎ…𝑡ℎ𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑔ℎ…𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠." Corym takes a deep breath. "𝑂𝑘𝑎𝑦, 𝐼'𝑙𝑙 𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑟𝑡 𝑏𝑦 𝑟𝑒𝑚𝑜𝑣𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑢𝑛𝑛𝑐𝑒𝑐𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑎𝑟𝑦 𝑎𝑢𝑟𝑎𝑠 𝑡𝑜 ℎ𝑒𝑙𝑝 𝑛𝑎𝑟𝑟𝑜𝑤 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑠 𝑑𝑜𝑤𝑛. 𝑁𝑒𝑥𝑡, 𝑙𝑜𝑐𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑓𝑒𝑚𝑎𝑙𝑒 𝑏𝑒𝑎𝑠𝑡-𝑘𝑖𝑛 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑒𝑙𝑓 𝑐ℎ𝑖𝑙𝑑𝑟𝑒𝑛. 𝑆𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑐ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔. 𝑆𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑐ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔. 𝑆𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑐ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔. 𝑇ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑦 𝑎𝑟𝑒. 𝑊𝑎𝑖𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡𝑠…"
"Is he alright? He's sweating a lot?"
"I honestly don't know, Dale. Corym's never used this skill for so long before."
Corym starts to fall backwards. Dale and Corin catch him before he hits the floor. They carry him over to the couch and gently lay him down.
"Now what?" Oz asked.
"We wait. He needs time to process everything." Said Fiora.
"You've dealt with this before I take it."
"That's none of your damn business Bonaluria."
"Hey now," said Dale, "there's no need to bite her head off. She was only asking out of concern for your son."
"Are you fucking kidding me?! Where was that concern when she helped orchestrate the murder of Emperor Maxwell Sr, and got my husband killed in the process!"
Fiora takes a step towards Bonaluria, her hand on the tsuka (hilt) of her katana—Masamune.
Oz steps between the two. "Let's go gather wood for a fire before it gets too dark to see."
"Firewood?! That's the best you can come up with to get me away from her?"
"I could always drag you away by force if necessary." Growls Oz.
"I'd like to see you try." Fiora's grip tightens on Masamune.
Oz reaches up under his waist coat for his escrima's that are vertically holstered in the small of his back. Neither one of them blinks.
The tension between them is palpable. Bonaluria, Dale, Holly, and Corin move back.
None of them were willing to get in between a General of the Templars and a Headmaster of the Hunters School.
It's at that moment Poppy and Silver fly through the door. "Hey guys, we found a natural hot spring nearby. Let's go for a dip." Suggested Poppy, excitedly.
"We also didn't find anything in the woods. What happened to Corym?" Asked Silver, landing on Corym's forehead.
"He used his World Sight skill." Holly replied.
Fiora takes her hand off of Masamune, "that does sound wonderful. Poppy, Holly, you can join me if you wish.
The rest of you stay away from me. I need time to think.
Fiora heads out. Poppy and Holly follow after.
"Is she serious right now?" Dale asked the room. "Ten of her soldiers are missing and she's taking a dip in a fucking hot spring!"
It's Corin who speaks up in her defense. "It's her way of processing. She needs to go over everything she knows about the situation and figure out how to proceed."
"And she can't do that here?"
"Given the current company," Corin looks over at Bonaluria, "you can't really blame her for wanting to be alone."
"Then why are Poppy and Holly with her, if she wants to be alone?"
"All four of us are Templar officers and her general staff." Answered Sliver.
"Let's leave her be and do a more thorough search of this place," suggests Oz, "Maybe we'll find something that'll help explain what's going on here."
Everyone agrees and begins a more in-depth search of the place. They come up empty-handed.
"What do we do now?" Bonaluria asked.
"Let's bring in our things and wait for Fiora to return." Said Dale.
"I'm gonna see what ingredients there are and get dinner started."
"Sounds good Bon-bon."
****
"Poppy, Holly," what do you make of this situation?"
Holly answers Fiora's question with a question of her own. "Which one? Your hatred towards Bonaluria, or the missing Templar soldiers?"
"The missing soldiers. All of them are B-ranked, while their captain and lieutenant are A-ranked. And yet we cannot find a single trace of them. No signs of a fight or a struggle. No evidence that anything happened to them at all."
"They were a mix of beast-kin and demi-humans weren't they?" Poppy asked, leading the way to the hot spring.
"Yes. The beast-kin's are: Ranmy, a male Leopard. Sake, a female Puma." Fiora starts ticking off each soldier stationed at this blockhouse on her fingers. "Tanidas is a male Black-backed Jackal and Hathy is a Tasmanian Devil."
Poppy said, "Hathy is like a bottomless pitt when it comes to meat."
Holly giggles at a past memory. "It was rather amusing watching Hathy take a chunk out of Gnatir's arm, and Gnatir, frantically running around trying to get her off of him."
"If it wasn't for Gnatir being a Minotaur and a demi-human, she probably would've devoured him on the spot." Adds Fiora, "and with him being the captain, he was able to squash any harsh punishment she'd have faced for allowing her carnivorous appetite to get out of hand like it did"
"Tetes is a female, demi-human Tarantula, and the lieutenant." Now it's Holly who starts listing off names. "Zeew is a…um…oh, she's a beast-kin Nightjar, Crissei is a male, Bulette, Larnat is a male Ctenizidae, Liqi is an Eagle, and all three of them are demi-humans."
"Any bad blood between any of them?"
Fiora shakes her head. "Not that I'm aware of. I'll have someone start looking into it further if we can't find anyone."
"Or anything." Remarks Poppy.
The conversation eventually stalls out which is fine because they had arrived at the hot spring.
Even in the waning light it gives off a beautiful array of blues, reds, yellows, greens, and oranges. It's an odd oval-shaped construct that's about two-point-three meters long, by one-point-one meters wide, and one meter deep.
"Wow, how beautiful!" Exclaimed Holly, "it's like seeing a rainbow on the ground."
"It is indeed beautiful." Agreed Fiora, "in all my years I've never seen anything quite like this."
"Let's call it Rainbow on the Ground Hot-spring." Suggests Poppy.
Fiora and Holly nod their heads in agreement. They begin removing their gear and clothing.
Poppy who is always naked lands on a rock beside the water and dips a tiny foot in. "This actually feels quite wonderful."
Fiora, wades into the water and finds a good spot to submerge herself, while keeping Masamune within arms reach, just in case.
Staring at Fiora, Poppy asks, "have your breasts gotten bigger?"
"Nope. I'm still a B-cup.
Holly stands near the waters edge and asks, "should I put up a protection barrier?"
Poppy replies, "no need. I've been speaking with the plants. They'll inform me if someone tries to sneak a peek at us, or if anyone they don't recognize approaches. So get in already and relax would you."
"Oh, okay then. Thank you, Poppy." Holly gets in and sits across from Fiora.
After a few minutes Holly speaks again. "Um, how are we gonna dry off?"
"We'll just air dry ourselves as we walk back." Answered Poppy, floating along on the water.
"B-but they'll see us."
"Are you feeling alright, Holly?" Asked Fiora, "You're normally not this reserved about anyone seeing you naked."
"I… I kept catching Dale staring at me. He's not secretly a pervert who's into little girls is he?"
Poppy speaks up. "Can he really be considered a pervert who's into little girls if you're older than him?"
"My age is irrelevant if I always look like a pubescent child." Retorts Holly.
"I don't get that vibe from him at all. He's probably comparing you to the daughter he just found out about."
Fiora, Holly, and Poppy continue chatting away. Meanwhile ten figures had spread out amongst the shadows, cutting off any means of escape, moving as one towards the hot spring.
