Chapter 304 - Korhal Defenses (2)

It's been three days since the Mobius rebellion.

The frenzied attack by the possessed is already halted at the Augustgrad Palace surroundings.

Raynor and General Warfield stood before the Holo table.

"This is bad... A third of the population in Korhal is dead." Raynor spoke.

The situation was worse.

Almost the possessed was sporadically appeared in different places and caused a failure.

"And a damm good number is missing or join the parade of nutcases out there." Warfield spoke out.

They noticed that some of the people joined the madness of the insurgents and their abominations. Arming themselves with civilian grade weaponry.

Even the Dominion Ghost had a hard time probing their minds.

"Is the Medical District secured? I don't want to see more dead troopers and civvies on the streets."

"I sent the best of the best to ensure the reconnect of the facility garrison... Seemed like these Pylons of yours worked. At least we got some form of Countermeasures and not end up braindead like the masses ahead.."

The palace was littered with Pylons, humming in greenish hue. Some parts of the capital also has the same pylons scattered about.

It was the only thing that prevent the majority becoming slaves to a malevolent god.

"A parting gift from the Imperium, Swann managed to learn from the Cog boys there and managed to make mini version of it... I was surprised when my former boss order its construction a month ago... If we had known... We should have hasten it." Raynor muttered.

"Nonsense, at least you did what you had to do... Now, what are our forces adjutant?"

<"**Processing..**">

"Well that's a piece of good news I had in a while... What's the current forces that we could request aid from the imperium and our own troops?" Warfield spoke.

"++Incoming transmission from the Celestial Imperium, data burst received from.. 2 days ago...++"

<"**This is High Lord Alexander Solair of the Celestial Imperium, Hold out for 3 days... I repeat, Hold out three days, Reinforcements is coming to aid you. This is just the start of the storm... **">

Several footsteps rushed forward in the dusty streets of a battle zone. Sporadic fire and smoke linger in the dusk filled skies.

The planet had a blackout as the electrical grid was the first to go. And in the darkness, the monsters roar brought fear in the heart of the weak.

But in a street that is filled with debris of dead and derelict vehicles. There was movement.

Each step reached to a debris of a overturned car that is burning to hide their location.

A boy holding a space marine doll, no older than 3 was about to cry and his mother hushed his fears as they watched of the monsters draped in human skins.

A man with a family heave in silence as they traverse in a land that is strange to them...

A few days ago, it was just a normal day for them, they were having a picnic and would have joined their extended family at the funeral procession of the late emperor.

They were just a ordinary family that got their home burn down by the second time. And this time by their very own people they believed in, not the Imperium.

Before, the father would complained that the Imperium killed his Emperor and propped up a puppet in his place.

But the only reason that he didn't outright rebel is because the job and the pay that he worked in one of the subsidiaries of the Imperium was good enough to placate his resentment..

He peeked out the corner of the car and found that there was a patrol of the Mobius security heading towards them and he gave a signature to stay silent and laid down.

The patrol march past them. But one of them stopped and glance at them.

They held their breath as they waited the patrol to pass their location.

The flaming debris masked their heat signatures and their bloodied appearance make it believable.

It stood for a several minutes and went away somewhere far away from them..

The family breath a sigh of relieve.

And the man produced a pocket map that shows a location of a nearby Imperial Church.

It was told to every citizen of Korhal during the reconstructio, if things got so bad that the evacuation bunkers were compromised or destroyed, they could simply head to the church. And the Imperium were generous to those that sought salvation...

He didn't believe in god, especially a foreign nation that worship a god as a emperor. Especially that one that is currently occupying his home...

But what can he do?

The Dominion informed the survivors that they are currently reorganizing their forces and slowly drive back the insurgents, but he didn't have time, time to sit down and wait for help to save his son and wife. He seen those monsters. And he want no better for a safety of his family.

He glance at the church ahead that was the first that opened in this planet and the closest one. The same place that the terrorist were heading.

"Are we there yet?" His wife utter her fears.

She cradle her son that was playing with a space marine doll, still survive from the constant abuse of being dragged across the ground..

He bought it out of a whim as his son wanted to buy the space marine dolls and he grabbed the cheapest and the closest one at the cashier.

"My love... We are almost there." He muttered in silence.

He was a former military man, as much as he would like to drafted against the enemies of Korhal. He wasn't refurbished in time before his Emperor died to the High lord.

He have a family to care.

He used what left of his training and muscle memory to guide his family to one of the churches that is the closest to him.

As he got closer, he found the same patrol that brought fear in him, just laid dead, a few miles before the entrance of the church.

He observe as he found that there was a bullet hole pierce in the power armor helmet.

He didn't even heard a gunshot as by now,it was monster territory.

But it also means that there is someone that is still alive.

But he is also skeptical.

What killed them?

But his gut instinct is telling him not to question the problem and head to the church.

As he got closer he found lights and electricity.

As if there was semblance in normalcy.

He heard voices in the church.

He hidden his family at a ruined cafe, as he slowly made his way to the church to scout.

He could not believe his eyes, people, living people is walking and tending to business.

He seen to many deaths in his life today. But... He was skeptical.

"Hands up and turn towards me, or I better blast a bullet in your face." A gruff voice was heard behind him.

He complied and slowly stood up and turned around.

There was several soldiers aiming their guns at him. And there was a blindfolded priest simply held his hand towards him.

"I'm just a civilian!" He spoke.

"You have identification?" One of them spoke.

The man fumbled his pockets and produced a card.

He sweated a bit, as there was mandate to never leave their identification cards or they get penalty, he was glad that he didn't felt so petty as he looked at the soldier that requested the ID and slotted in a id scanner.

His back slowly trickled as he worried about his family.

The man process the id, he glance at the blindfolded man that nodded at him

"Id checks out... Where's your family?"

"In a cafe in 6th street, I put them there in case that this place is... Compromised."

The soldiers chuckled.

"Ye of little faith. We guarded this place for three bloody days. And the church always welcome the faithful. I send a squad and that psyker, will you lead them to this place. If this was the old Imperium, you definitely be shot for being little faith. You best be hurry, before the soup kitchen close down." What seemed to be the leader of the group chuckled.

The man sweated as he nodded a little.

'Old Imperium? Just how hardcore do they need to keep church attendance?"

(Try being a atheist in Warhammer, and I dare ya to speak that there is no god to a Lord of change)

He was guarded by a squad of soldiers as he led them to the cafe.

He noticed they were just wearing flak armor and vest as they scanned the darkness with their night vision goggles.

He noticed as they were like ghosts in the shadows.

He reached the cafe he left behind and managed to find them safe. The priest simply held out his hand and nodded as well.

"I hope you don't mind askin' what is that man doing?" The man asked to one of the soldiers.

The soldier oblige and simply state what he knows.

"He's a sanctified psyker, he can see souls. You see, during the first two days, there are... Brainwashed heretics pretending to be refugee and caused casualties in the refugee camp.

"You mean... Like possessed?"

"Something like that, they were more... Shall we say, tainted in their souls, this cheerful fellow is the one of the few things that can tell if they are possessed or not."

"Is there any way to... Free them?"

"So far? No, we can't tranquilize them, somehow the drugs wore off and their metabolism is way too high for a normal human, they lost their lack of limiters and can even flip a tank in given numbers. Honestly, in my perspective at least... They are lost." The soldier spoke as he handed a water canister to the man and gestured him to drink.

"Are... We doomed?" The man drank as he looked at the lightless capital.

"Have faith, this is just a small page of a history of humanity survival you and I are a part of it.. I seen things more worse than you ever know. I fought biological fungus that known only war and survive a galaxy terror that devoured worlds. So don't lose hope."

"The imperium have a bright colors to know such things... As if you known...only war."

"Perhaps, it's much closer than you think. We known war far longer than you ever realize... That peace is just a foreign concept to us... So count your peaceful days... What happens here is tame compare to what's coming for us." The soldier smiled turned into a frown as he received something in his comms.

The man beside him was curious why his cheerful demeanor turned into a sharp razor edge emotion.

"Hurry, there's a another wave incoming to the church... "

The man about to complain of the sudden affairs, the seriousness of the face of the soldiers was more than enough to shut him up.

The man noticed that the atmosphere was more... Tense. He can tell from the situation, they were more serious.

As they arrived, he found the soldiers in defensive position, sharpshooters rushed in the rooftops that surrounded the church and soldiers used what debris and vehicle husk to provide a makeshift barricades. As he passed by, the soldiers placed landmines behind them.

There were makeshift heavy gun platforms of meshing several stubbers they called it as a deterrence.

Mortar teams readied their shells from the crates and a lone mechanical man swung incense balls and chanting binaries as they bunkered down.

The family was escorted into the halls of the church.

The soldier spoke to the man.

"Can you shoot?"

The man simply said the truth

"I was part of the Korhal conscription...."

"Are you willing to defend your family and home with us?"

The man wanted to speak... But when he looked at the eyes of the man before him.

It spoke of certainty and purpose.

"Yes..."

"Go to the quartermaster besides that chimera there, he will give you the thing you need. Men! Follow me! We take East point!" He pointed the direction for the man to take.

He found himself in a line of people that didn't want to hide behind the walls of the church.

Each leaving a weapon or two with body armor as they joined the defensive position.

As it was his turn, he stood before a apc that was still filled with guns.

The soldoer attended the quartermaster station was a middle-aged man with scars to boot.

"Got any autoguns?" The man spoke in the imperial slang for gunpowder.

The old man nodded and handed him a shotgun and a Rifle and several magazines of ammunition with composite flak armor and several complementary grenades.

He checked the rifle and loaded it up, and the quartermaster nodded in satisfaction of the way he handled the gun.

"Saves time to explain, now head to the west of the church and ask Commisar R'Ja to be part of the irregular unit, if you survive, you be paid for your troubles."

The man take it without question as the Imperium gave him what he needed.

He relegated as a irregular unit just station on the west side of the church.

The Imperium soldiers beside them, simply stated to the volunteers, they weren't expecting much, but their willingness to join them was appreciated.

It hurt some, but it was normal, it was absurd to have civilians to handle firearms, but this was a special kind of situation.

The church was one of the few holdouts beyond the pylons of the palace and something within is keeping the people safe.

The man aimed at the general direction of his defense line.

It was silent... Too silent.

The sporadic gunfire in the distance seemed to be like flickering static that dim in the distance.

He felt the ground trembled.

"Shoot the flares!"

The sound of mortar launched their payload and miniature sun lit up the darkness before them.

The man hands gripped his rifle..

Before them of what remained masses of the Korhal that lost their souls.

Their clothes were a mess and each of them held anything that can be used as a weapons glass bottles, your neighborhood bar shotguns or military weapons that they pilfer from the remains. And they were swarming in the distance.

The man even noticed one even held a Gauss rifle that was meant to be wielded by a power armor with a single hand.

He heard the snickering of the imperials beside him as they joked instead of falling to despair.

"Seemed like we have a zombie outbreak with guns."

"Could be worse, at least it was not a plague lord barreling towards us this time. I thought I died being flatten by that blob of walking plagues."

"Count your shot and use them well! The God Emperor will find your faith be questioned by the faithless and soulless horde! If you are about to die, take as many bastards with you!" The Commisar in his pompous hat spoke. He raised his pistol and aimed at the horde that is heading towards them.

[Open Fire!]

The sentence was heard across the battleground and laser and tracers rained upon the horde.

The man huffed as he loaded his next cartridges behind a sandbag.

He shot people he knew and now deranged and about to kill him and his family.

One shot, blew a leg of a florist that he pass by at work.

One shot, blasted a coworker brains out.

One frag grenade, taken out his drinking buddies.

Not that the man agreed with. But even he could tell they would soon be overun by the sheer numbers.

"Fockin hell! Bombing run!"

There were vibration in the air and the man instinctively knew it was a Dominion Banshee, was the military compromised that they allowed a expensive hardware to be hijacked?

He could see the outline of the group of vehicles that rained several rocket trails on the defensive lines. Some rained precariously near the church and part of the defensive positions. It hum as the defenders provided a makeshift anti-air screens using their Lasguns and the stubbers.

It drove them off, but in doing so it made a opportunity for the possessed to rushed as fast as they could towards the church, even rushing on four like a dog just to gain extra speed.

Explosion from the minefields sprouted like a cloud of shrapnel and gunpowder.

They didn't even felt pain. And those that survive despite they lost below the waist still crawling towards the defenders before they got trampled by the rest.

The man felt numb, but these people he helped killing is basically the people he knows, but in his morality is cursing him for joining the genocide, but in his mind, his reasoning accepted they can't be saved.

The first of the possessed managed to clamber on the makeshift defenses. And they engage them in close combat.

But his thoughts were short-lived, as the remaining hijacked banshees did another run and he was unlucky as a rocket landed near his position, the explosion swept him off his feet and he crashed into a sandbag,

He clambered on the sandbag and used his working hand to fire at the horde.

"Wot the fock is that!" A soldier yelled as the man saw the giant monstrosity slowly hovering its way towards the church.

The beast even grow in height even more taller than the buildings around the church.

The sharpshooters attempted to delay the beast, but their minds were overwhelmed with the sheer psychic might of the monster emitted that their nerves got fried and causing a portion of the defendses to caved in.

And parts of the defensive lines were broken and allowed the possessed to flood into the defensive lines once more.

The man yelled as he was stabbed with a pickaxe. He shot the assailant with a shotgun and he saw brain matter and skull fragment burst close hand.

As he assisted the faltering lines, there was a voice in his head that demanded him...

[Obey] a word that made his body felt like his body was on chain, he looked directly at the beast as he saw it held out its hand and emitting a blueish hue.

In the eyes of the monster, nhe saw oblivion, he saw the death of the universe and the fate that awaited him and his family, nothing more than biomass to create more monsters like the one before him.

He saw the darkness creeping up in his body as if wanting to consumed him in his mind.

But just before his mind was fully devoured, he felt a light... A calm but sober light, that emitted behind him.

The darkness in his mind roared in anger by torturing the man soul as if that being behind the man is more dangerous than the beast itself.

The light began to glow brighter and brighter.

And in his mind, he saw a man in golden armor with a flaming sword facing before him. The darkness scream as if to intimidate the intruder of its malice.

The armored figure said nothing, he simply swung his sword and cleaved the darkness in half.

The man attempted to see the figure face, but he heard his family prayers....

For him to come back alive.

And it broke the man broke from his stupor and found that the beast that attempted to control his mind scream and trashed about, as if someone broken its mind.

The masses of the possessed also screamed in tandem as they were like puppets on string.

The man aimed his gun at the beast that tried to break his mind and fired upon it.

The surviving defenders also join the chorus of gunfire, with spite and hate that such a beast attempted to manipulate their minds and their concentrated fire filled the monster full of holes of various sizes.

The beast psychically screamed as weak mortal weapons is damaging the perfect body made by its own creator.

Several mortar shells rain upon its skull and exploded and it slumped forward. And the masses that was controlled were erratic.

The man knocked unconscious with screams of the soldiers cheering in the distance.

He came to, the situation was filled with silence. He had a metal shrapnel in his arm that is leaking blood. And a medic that was performing emergency triage nearby.

The situation was worse as he slowly peeked out of the sandbag.

The possessed civilian were killed. And this time there were this... Giant men that rushing out of the Church grounds. Now engaging with the Mobius security.

He was unable to believe such a being can run so fast for their frames... He understood why his Dominion lost by looking a part of the Imperium army way of handling things.

"Welcome back to the land of the living. How's your vacation?" The medic jokingly spoke as he attended the man wounds.

"Felt like shit. What happened?" He spoke as he was given painkillers as the medic slowly removed the shrapnel and placed it with bandages and a red vial that splashed on his wounds.

"We drove them back... Not without some casualties... " The medic glance at the pile of body bags and a Commisar held the dog tags of every soldier that was dead. The hat he wore hid the expression of the Commisar.

There was a priest giving a proper rites of sending their souls to whatever heaven these people believe in.

"Drown them in flames! Purge the heretics in holy fire! Sisters! With me!" A woman voice roared in the distance and revealed several armored women in power armor rushed out, with flamethrowers and chainswords.

They came to this church to reinforce the place and they told the survivors that they are to escort the people to the Augustgrad Palace.

The man was kinda shocked .

"You guys basically have a militant church?" He asked.

"You get used to it. They are more... Eccentric. But we could use any help we can get. You could use a shower, you literally stink. We will move out after we have our breakfast." The soldier shrugged.

The night of the third day was over. And begun the fourth day.

But as the dawn rises from the ashes of Korhal. The situation was somewhat stabilized.

Parts of the planet is slowly recovering their command structure and even the planets under the Dominion is preparing to handle the threats it imposes.

The planets that bordered with the Imperium is fully purged of the possessed and the monsters and made a clear path to Korhal.

But deep in Protoss space.

A enormous ship, the last of it's kind slowly made its way to Korhal as it waited to recharge its ftl drive.

The Daelaem leader Artanis stood before the screen of the situation before him.

He ponder of the situation that just happened recently.

His old friend, Zerathul came to them at the eve of their retaking of Aiur.

Warning them that they were in a more bigger threat than Kerrigan.

Artanins couldn't refused the will of the people that requested their homeworld not be in the controll of the zerg, so he made a compromise with zerathul, that once he finished retaking the planet, he would use the golden armada to assist his plight.

At the start the recapturing of Aiur was easy as there were only feral Zerg...

But as they move closer to the capital, the feral Zerg were more... Controlled.

Artanins witness first hand of the monsters that Zerathul and his human allies fought.

Beast made of both Zerg and Protoss blood controlling the feral Zerg.

They dealt with the monstrosity with heavy casualties and with the evidence in front of his face, he could only prepare the armada to assist humans as well.

As he gave his final command, a dark voice echoed in his khala.

[Obey]

It maliciously laugh as that dark entity mocked him as Artanins tried to use his willpower to prevent his body from taken over, but by the time he noticed someone approached him. It was a blur to him.

He was swinging his psi blades, attacking the figure covered in darkness, until the felt a pure malice instantly in his sides, and distracted him long enough for Zerathul to cut his nerve cords.

By the time he realize. He found Zerathul was crippled with one hand.

"Go find the keystone in Korhal. It is the key to our salvation." Zerathul place his remaining hand to Artanins and he realized that they were just pawns.

By the time he came to rally the expedition fleet, almost all of them succumbed to the dark entity that controlled them using the khala. And they attacked the ones that had a natural resistance to the call of the dark entity.

And several key figure still survive the onslaught.

Fenix, Karax, Selendis and Razagal that accompanied Artanins to be a bridge between the dark templar and Daelaem.

Razagal managed to save Selendis before the corruption took place.

Fenix, was more of a luck when he was with the phase smiths that was checking out the forges when the possession happened and the dark templar managed to cut their nerve cords and led them to the spear of adun.

He managed to get Zerathul in the med bay in the apart of adun as he laid in a vat filled nutrients fluid. Though he lose one arm... Artanins got the feeling that if he was not distracted... He would kill his friend.

But his armada was crippled.

When he came to the true statistics, almost 3/4th of the entire fleet were possessed and those that didn't were the dark templars that didn't link to the khala were the first to be attacked, and some were killed in the cross fire.

He had to find new allies and soldiers to supplement his missing forces.

He immediately ordered what remained of his fleets to head to shakuras and aid the people there, by the time his fleet arrive, his foster homeworld Shakuras was in flames as hybrids and Zerg began to swarm his people refuge.

The daughter of Razagal, Vorazun was in charge of defending the planet of Shakuras in her mother wake to aid Aiur, leading the shadow guards as they fought a fruitless endeavor as the Zerg swarm and their new masters began to overpowered them.

He personally evacuated what's left of the people as they head to the fleet. Giant monstrosity rained down psychic fire as they attempted to destroy evacuation portals.

Razagal gave him her blessings to destroy her homeworld, because the planet was doom and if they allowed the infestation to spread to other sectors, she would gladly burn her planet down. And the one place she pointed was a old temple that housed void energies with twin crystal to overcharge them to explode.

Artanins personally commanded the defenses as he be the one to destroy the planet to lessen the grieve of Voraxun and Razagal.

From the darkness of the temple he stood and with the unending swarm of Zerg, he fought as one with the shadows, awaiting the timer to break, and as the crystal glowed red and shot to the core of the planet Artanins saw to it that it exploded and he managed to teleport out before the eruption consumed the temple and the planet as a whole.

The dark templar were save but at what cost?

The fleet was akin to a refugee fleet and not every Protoss could fight.

But before he could go and gather the Keystone, he remembers Glacius, a research facility that in the field of automatons and with the limited warriors caste, he could not afford any more deaths.

By the time he arrived, the planet was met with Taldarim death fleet that was preparing to burn the planet to the ground.

It was there he met the first ascendant Alarak that was more flexible in his train of thought.

He went down with Fenix with a few elites to get to the technology vault before the death fleet made the planet into a scorched wasteland.

Alarak deliberately slowed the extinction beams on the premise of being thorough, and sent the more fanatics after Artanins as to keep up with the ruse, he have some expectations from the Hierarch Artanins and if he succeeded, perhaps this pawn is a use to him..

Artanins and Fenix was unaware of what the first ascendant was thinking and managed to teleport the vault before the beam landed upon them.

Karax and the Phase Smith taken their time to unlock the vault. And to them it was a surprise of seeing a Prototype robot madewit Fenix subconscious activated and spoke joyously.

Making the real Fenix, not shocked but amused of seeing a robot that have his memories of a younger time.

With the blueprints of creating the robot templars being used, they made their way to Korhal.

And found that the Human was once again in war with itself and with the humans sparse reports that the Protoss picked up, found that even humans was not safe from the spread of corruption. Monstrous hybrids burn planets and convert humans to be thralls of their dark master made Artanins to make haste and fulfill his friend wish.

(A/n): Anyone played star craft legacy of the void knows the Protoss side, but I like to add in the perspective of humans in this conflict.

This is half chapters smush into one.

One was a perspective of a nameless civilian that saw a horors on the ground. And the devastation was more than a few hours long.

And the other was how the heck Protoss take so long?

And it's not a big surprise if the Amon Hybrids can make zombies by frying people brains and make them be able to use weapons.

Doing some farm work. And gotten numb from the western world. Seriously, drafting men in Germany and can't go out without permission? And yet they allowed women and illegals not to be drafted?

Wow, so much for Equality when you want one gender to die just to get dicked by foreign men. Equality is a lie, when Feminism and liberal want men and boys to die for Israel and kept their status quo.

I just on the drafting stages of star wars. (Disney really fucked up the lore, the Maul Series is kinda meh)

And doing some check.

Here are some bits and pieces, but at least it's somewhat finalized a bit.

"Rakatan Empire vs the Celestial Imperium"

"Imperium vs the Pius Dea" (Warhammer meet star wars cheap knockoff of Warhammer)

"Republic Deathwing virus spread in a hive world." (congratulations, More republic war crimes. It's basically a Smart Zombie horror in space.)

"Darth Kreia final moments"

"Discussion with Thrawn"

"Star killer vs Alexander Solair" (a hint to what happened to Anakin?)

"God Emperor arrival to the Galaxy"
