Jay
The room is silent—eerily so. With so many people gathered in one space, you would think someone would at least be breathing, but there's nothing. All I can hear is the pounding of my anxious heart. The thumping in my ears overwhelms me to the point that I don't even notice when someone breaks the oppressive silence.
"JAY!" Celena yells, snapping me out of my growing panic.
I slowly turn my head to face her.
"Ahem, I'm sorry, what did you say?" I mumble as I try to clear the lump that's been stuck in my throat.
"Focus, man. I understand you are worried and angry, but you can't be of much help if you're losing it." Celena's stern words have little effect on me.
I stand there in silence, unable to respond. A hand gently rests on my shoulder, and as I turn to see who it is, I feel the lump in my throat grow. It feels like I'm choking. Rin gazes into my eyes, and suddenly, tears begin to well up—tears I didn't even realize I had been holding back.
