Melody Monroe returned to her front door. Just as she inserted the key, the door swung open.
"Mommy!" Ian Monroe threw himself into his mother's arms.
Melody Monroe scooped him up and planted a kiss on his little cheek.
"I'm sorry, sweetie. Mommy forgot to call you back yesterday."
"It's okay. Ian doesn't blame Mommy."
Evan Fairchild came out of the kitchen, his expression darkening. "Ian Monroe, get down. Your mother's had a long day. Let her rest for a bit."
Ian Monroe immediately slid out of his mother's arms, took her hand, and led her toward the sofa.
"Mommy, hurry and sit down. Rest for a little while."
He then turned and ran to the side, pouring a cup of water and handing it to his mother. "Mommy, drink some water."
