Far above in the clouds, a woman was flying on a broomstick and there was another man, barely in his twenties, hugging her from behind. They were headed towards the Seifridges.
Pierre stood and moved to the window, looking down into the front yard of the estate. His eyebrows rose in surprise.
"Well," he said, a slight smile crossing his face.
"It seems we have additional arrivals."
The others joined him at the window and looked down to see two figures in the yard below. One was standing gracefully, having clearly just dismounted from the broomstick that now rested against her shoulder. The other was sprawled on the grass, apparently having had a less successful landing.
"Veronica," Jennifer said with a mix of amusement and exasperation.
"Of course she'd arrive by broomstick rather than using the front gate like a normal person."
"Who's with her?" Imogen asked, squinting at the figure struggling to his feet on the lawn.
"No idea," Arthur replied.
