Canon World, Konoha, 63.
...
...
A White Zetsu emerged from the ground in the middle of a forest filled with cherry trees with pink and white leaves, appearing before Obito and beside a Zetsu who was half black and half white.
"My partner, Deidara, has been taking up quite a lot of my time. I hope this is important enough for me to have to come here for this information about Konoha," Obito said from behind his mask, using that cold tone he adopted when he didn't need to conceal his true personality behind Tobi's foolish demeanor.
He knew through the Zetsus that something had happened in Konoha, as they quickly passed information between one another, though without many details, and he hadn't had time to investigate personally since he was busy accompanying Deidara as his current partner, which was why he had sent some Zetsus to investigate.
"Yes, interesting things happened in Konoha," said the White Zetsu who had emerged from the ground, with a smile that seemed almost forced. Many might interpret it that way, but that was simply the rather strange and chaotic personality each of the Zetsus possessed...
"Proceed," Black Zetsu ordered from beside Obito, in a cold tone.
"Danzou fell in Konoha."
The information immediately surprised Obito. "He was brought down? How and why?"
Danzou could still be necessary for his plans and, especially, for the possible manipulation of Sasuke in the future. When Itachi died, Obito intended to use the truth about the Uchiha Clan massacre to manipulate Sasuke, knowing that Itachi didn't have much longer to live and had already planned to die by his own brother's hands.
If everything happened as he expected, Sasuke would awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan and, afterward, Obito could transplant Itachi's eyes into him, granting him the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan. By fueling his desire for revenge even further, Sasuke would certainly become an excellent trump card and another powerful pair of eyes, as well as a potential ally he could use as they moved forward with the Eye of the Moon Plan.
Discovering that Danzou had fallen meant losing an important piece for some of those possible manipulations. Obito hoped, at the very least, that he hadn't died, since he could still use him in the future to fuel Sasuke's hatred.
"They found out about Shisui's Mangekyō Sharingan," Zetsu continued.
That managed to surprise Obito even more. "They found out? And the eye? What happened to it?" If he could get his hands on that Sharingan, he would have access to an extremely powerful tool. Kotoamatsukami could even be useful against Madara himself, after all, he didn't want to fall behind when the time came...
"It was destroyed," Zetsu replied.
Obito merely let out a sigh. It had seemed too good to be true that such a powerful eye would simply fall into his hands.
"But there's still more. I think it would be better to hold a meeting with everyone..." Zetsu said, before continuing to tell them everything he had discovered.
Obito initially just listened, but his expression behind the mask began to change as the new information was revealed. When Zetsu finally finished, he slowly nodded. This was far more serious than he had imagined, and he would need to inform Nagato, because this new information could directly affect the Akatsuki's plans.
After giving his orders, with Black Zetsu heading to the Rain Village to meet Pain, Obito left the area using his Kamui and reappeared in front of one of the organization's hideouts. He slipped quietly through the corridor and was about to head to his room when a door practically exploded open and Deidara appeared wearing the Akatsuki cloak, glaring at him angrily.
"Tobi! Where were you?!" Deidara shouted.
Obito immediately returned to his usual personality, raising his hands and letting out a frightened scream. "Senpai! Don't just appear and scream like that! Tobi almost had a heart attack!"
"Tobi, I went to your room and you weren't there! Where were you?" Deidara continued, clearly irritated.
"Look, I don't want to talk about it," Tobi simply said, whistling as he walked past him, but Deidara immediately stopped him.
"Tobi, you'd better tell me now. If you're planning something, I swear I'll blow your head off," Deidara threatened him.
"No need to get so angry, senpai," Tobi said like a fool. "If you really want to know, I went to use the bathroom, but it was occupied, so I had to find somewhere else, you understand?" he explained, leaving Deidara speechless for a few seconds.
"You're saying you went to use the bathroom outside?" Deidara grumbled, while Tobi quickly nodded, thinking that was the best excuse possible.
"Whatever, just let me know before doing something like that. I swear I'll blow you up next time," Deidara grumbled, but when they were about to continue arguing with each other, the rings on their hands began to glow.
"The leader is calling," Deidara murmured, while Tobi began playing with his glowing ring as if he were a child. Seeing that, a vein immediately bulged on Deidara's forehead before he struck Tobi on the head, making him shrink back as an enormous bump seemed to appear.
"Senpai is so violent!" Tobi complained.
"Let's go meet the leader," was all Deidara said, completely ignoring the complaint.
At that same moment, scattered throughout the Elemental Nations, the other Akatsuki members noticed their rings glowing and began looking for places where they could answer the call through the seal, each of them entering somewhere they could talk without being disturbed, preferably somewhere dark and secluded.
"Looks like the leader is calling," Kisame said with a small laugh, as if it were already obvious, while Itachi merely nodded. The two soon headed toward a cave in the middle of the forest.
At the same time, Deidara flew through the sky atop his clay bird while holding Tobi by his cloak, threatening to drop him from that height. Tobi struggled desperately, begging not to die and calling Deidara-senpai cruel until they finally found a cave near the city where they had stayed that night, and landed in front of it. As soon as they entered, Tobi threw himself into a corner, panting.
"Come on, Tobi," Deidara grumbled.
"Just one more minute, Deidara-senpai! I almost died!" he replied, still panting.
A small clay bird immediately flew toward him, making Tobi's eye widen before he began running desperately through the cave as an explosion went off right behind him. A few moments later, when Tobi finally appeared in the center of the cave, Deidara performed the necessary hand seals to begin communicating with the other members. It was no wonder those rings functioned practically as communicators thanks to their leader's techniques and the power of those eyes that seemed to be beyond human comprehension.
Soon, figures began appearing one after another, the distinctive sound of holograms materializing echoing throughout the cave whenever a new projection emerged. The images resembled translucent shadows, allowing their body shapes, expressions, eyes, and Akatsuki cloaks to be recognized.
Pain appeared first, remaining at the front while Konan emerged beside him. A half-Black Zetsu and half-White Zetsu appeared shortly afterward, followed by Itachi and Kisame. Deidara and Tobi were already present, and they should also be visible to the others, with Tobi still panting in a corner after all that commotion.
In any case, that was practically everything that remained of the organization at that moment. Hidan and Kakuzu had died not long ago, and the number of the Akatsuki's original ten members was beginning to dwindle.
"So, why did you call us here, Leader?" Deidara asked, glancing at Kisame and Itachi before turning toward Pain, who remained standing in front of everyone with his Rinnegan eyes fixed on them, while Tobi excitedly raised his hands.
"Leader!" Tobi shouted.
"We have news from Konoha," Pain's dry voice echoed through the cave, causing Itachi to be the first to react by slightly raising an eyebrow.
"Did something happen in Konoha that made you need to call all of us? Wasn't them killing our last two members enough?" Kisame asked.
"Yeah, why do we need to know about Konoha?" Deidara grumbled.
"The information is important because it involves the Nine-Tails' jinchūriki," Pain replied, with no one there knowing that he was merely one of the six corpses Nagato controlled through the Rinnegan, except for Obito, of course. "There have been some changes in the Nine-Tailed Fox's jinchūriki. I'll share everything we've discovered here. As if Kakuzu falling directly at his hands and those of his group because of carelessness wasn't enough, it seems he has become even stronger since then."
"Ah, Kakuzu was way too much of an idiot from what I know. You don't need to keep warning us because of that, we know how to deal with that brat," Deidara immediately said in his usual arrogant tone.
"You say that because you don't have all the information yet. He seems to have gained complete control over the Nine-Tailed Fox now." Pain's voice immediately cut off anything else Deidara might have said, and he blinked several times as he stared at the leader in surprise.
"What?! You're saying he's a perfect jinchūriki?! The kind that only exists in the Land of Lightning?!" Tobi began shouting.
"Quiet, Tobi," Pain ordered in a cold tone, and Tobi immediately fell silent, while Itachi and even Kisame remained surprised by that information.
"The boy, the jinchūriki, seems to have changed. We don't have exact information about what happened, but he now possesses complete control over the Nine-Tailed Fox, and we've also received information that he can distribute the bijuu's chakra to other people."
"Hey, hey... Is that possible?" Kisame asked, unable to keep a crooked smile from appearing on his face.
"Yes. According to our information, he distributed the Fox's chakra to five or six people during a confrontation in which they brought down one of Konoha's elders, Danzou," Pain replied.
"They brought down Danzou?" Itachi immediately asked, still trying to process the idea that Konoha now possessed a perfect jinchūriki.
"We don't have the full context, but we know that Danzou, one of the Hidden Leaf Village's elders, possessed an extremely dangerous eye, and they found out about it. Shisui's Mangekyō Sharingan," Pain said.
Everyone immediately turned their eyes toward Itachi, who outwardly remained cold and impassive, despite knowing very well whom that eye had belonged to. He had the other eye of that pair hidden away and intended to use it against Sasuke if possible, to change his mindset if he discovered the truth behind that fateful night. He hoped Sasuke would protect Konoha as well, whether voluntarily or even by force.
"Not only that. Danzou also possessed a technique that we still haven't been able to fully identify and an arm covered in Sharingans. It seems he took advantage of the eyes of those who died during the massacre you carried out against your own clan, Itachi," Pain continued.
This time, everyone truly fell silent, while Itachi didn't respond, merely remaining motionless in his projection. Itachi knew that such a technique could exist among the Uchiha, Izanagi... And knowing how the village had taken possession of everything related to the Uchiha, Itachi shouldn't be surprised that Danzou had something like that...
"In any case, he was brought down. During the confrontation, the jinchūriki distributed the Nine-Tails' chakra among his allies and fought Danzou directly. They killed him several times until that unknown technique finally ran out and he had no choice but to surrender. After that, Shisui's Mangekyō Sharingan was removed and destroyed by the village itself later that same day."
Even after his death, it seemed the Uchiha always ended up becoming a topic of discussion, even when no one was speaking directly about him or his brother. Kisame couldn't help but let out a small laugh upon noticing that, while Itachi remained silent, showing no reaction whatsoever.
"Well, it's not as if Konoha's internal conflicts are important to our mission at the moment. The more they fight among themselves, the better. The problem now is the Nine-Tailed Fox's jinchūriki, and this is a warning for everyone to keep this information in mind. He is dangerous now and seems to use the beast's power differently from the Hidden Cloud's jinchūriki."
"From what we understand, it's something even more versatile than what our information suggests about the Eight-Tails, not to mention this ability to distribute the Nine-Tails' chakra to other people. This must not be underestimated in any way," Pain said while everyone remained attentive.
"I just want you to be careful. When the time comes, we'll deal with him, but if you encounter him before then and aren't prepared, it's better to retreat. Understood?"
Deidara clicked his tongue. "You don't seriously expect us to start running away from some brat, do you?"
"But, Deidara-senpai! He's a perfect jinchūriki! A perfect jinchūriki!" Tobi began exclaiming inside the cave as he warned his partner, gesturing desperately at Deidara.
"Shut up, Tobi!" Deidara shouted.
"You two, stop." Pain's voice immediately echoed with authority, making Deidara click his tongue again before turning his attention back to him.
"Don't underestimate your opponent, Deidara," Pain warned. At the leader's words, Deidara merely nodded, even though he clearly didn't like that warning.
"In any case, this meeting is over. Just be careful. I'll give you further instructions in the future," Pain said.
Everyone nodded as, one after another, their avatars began disappearing from that cave, leaving only Deidara and Tobi behind.
"What a pain..." Deidara sighed, but a vein soon bulged on his forehead when he looked at Tobi and found him crouched on the ground in a defensive position. "What are you doing, Tobi?" he asked, already irritated.
"Deidara-senpai... What if... what if the jinchūriki is outside waiting for us?! I don't want to die so soon, Deidara-senpai!" Tobi shouted desperately, crying.
He immediately received a kick from Deidara. "Ahhh!!"
"Shut up, you idiot! Why do I have to be partnered with you of all people?! Do you really think we're going to run into the Nine-Tails' jinchūriki right after we leave this cave, you fool?!" Deidara shouted, beginning to kick him while Tobi thrashed around on the ground.
"Stop, Deidara-senpai! Stop! You're killing me! At least let me die to the Nine-Tails' jinchūriki!" Tobi began shouting as he tried to protect his head from the kicks. "It would be much more honorable than dying from Deidara-senpai's kicks!"
