Chapter 290 - Chapter 290 - Conquering the Eyrie.

[Chapter Size: 2500 Words.]

Third Person POV.

The Vale of Arryn.

...

...

The sound of hooves echoed as Daemon advanced mounted on a steed he had taken after leaving his dragons behind, riding with the army at the front while wearing Targaryen armor. Behind him came several Northern lords, who marched as leaders of the army.

He had decided to march alongside the men rather than ride through the skies, since he did not want to waste a good fight by merely flying overhead on his dragons. That was not why he had fought in the battles of the Wall, the North, the Riverlands, the Iron Islands, the Westerlands, and King's Landing.

The use of dragons only came when he needed something more useful. Even during the war, he had only used them in the fight against the Blackfyre in King's Landing because he did not want to lose so many men.

"It seems we have a problem ahead," Daemon said simply.

"Are you certain, Your Majesty?" Brynden Tully asked.

He exchanged glances with the other lords, but none of them wanted to question the king too much after everything they knew he was capable of doing.

Over the past few weeks, the lords of the Vale had been somewhat irritated by the enormous storm he had created, causing problems throughout the region. However, none of them said it aloud, much less complained.

Not when the Vale's status before the other kingdoms was that of cowards who had remained hidden throughout the entire war.

To others such as Baelish, they had mentioned it several times, full of complaints. The matter of Lysa Arryn and Littlefinger conspiring against Jon Arryn, poisoning him after he began raising dangerous questions about the royal children of that time at Cersei's request, was already known among some lords.

The lords of the Vale were not very inclined to support Lysa after everything she had done to the region's reputation during those wars. They were also not pleased to realize that the one truly ruling the Vale now was Petyr Baelish himself through Lysa.

Of course, none of them knew that the man was now practically crippled after Daemon had destroyed his eyes. Daemon even wondered how he was reacting at that very moment, knowing that the army was advancing.

They continued marching, and then scouts quickly approached.

"There are men ahead, Your Majesty. They are carrying white banners."

"Very well. Let me through. Let's see what they want," Daemon said.

The men nodded and made way as he advanced toward the group. The army slowed its pace as they observed the small party ahead.

There were only a few soldiers and a knight leading them.

"What is this now?" one of the Vale lords at Jon's side asked.

"Nothing important. Lysa is simply sending messengers," another replied.

"Calm yourselves," Daemon said, raising a hand. Then he turned his attention back to the group. "Let's see what they want."

His men rode up to the newcomers and stopped in front of them.

"What do we have here?" he asked calmly, looking at those people with interest.

"Are you King Daemon Targaryen?" the knight asked nervously.

"Yes. Do you need something?" Daemon asked in a calm yet amused tone. "And your lords?" He continued. "Since I don't see them anywhere, I assume they're not here to surrender. They're hiding, afraid of dying, or whatever it is they've decided." His voice echoed among the knights.

They exchanged glances. They were nervous, but the man leading the group took a deep breath before gathering the courage to respond.

"We will not allow you to pass through the gorge bridge. Withdraw your troops. We can negotiate the Vale's surrender without war. My lady does not wish for a conflict." The knight spoke firmly despite his nervousness.

"This guy has courage," Daemon whispered. There really was a bridge crossing a massive chasm, connecting the gorge. Normally, whoever defended the other side would have an enormous advantage.

But with someone like Daemon present, losing was practically impossible. He observed the man for a few moments before smiling.

"Well, well. So you really are prepared to face us." His smile widened. "But it doesn't matter. Go back to your lords and tell them there will be war. Since there is no surrender." He issued the decree before turning his attention back to his men.

"Let's continue the march."

At those words, the opposing group swallowed nervously.

The knight nodded and turned his horse around. "Let's go."

He seemed relieved that he had not been stopped or executed. Meanwhile, Daemon continued advancing.

The first challenge appeared shortly afterward. The bridge, or rather what remained of it, since the smoke could be seen from a distance ever since they had decided to burn it.

On the other side, several men were positioned with bows, the same ones they had used to start the flames and seemingly intended to use against them.

"Fools..." Daemon murmured as the army approached.

The flames had already consumed the entire bridge, and it no longer existed...

"My lord, what shall we do?" The lords seemed concerned as they watched the fire spread.

Yohn Royce was the first to speak. "There is an alternate route, but it will take us at least two weeks to cross it."

Daemon shook his head. "Don't worry about that." He shrugged. "I have an ice dragon." A faint smile appeared on his face. In truth, he had already imagined they would burn the bridge anyway.

That kind of obstacle was to be expected.

But for Daemon, it made no difference at all. After all, he had much simpler solutions for this kind of problem.

"But, my king, wouldn't the ice kill the men?" Lord Tully asked worriedly.

Daemon shook his head. "Do not worry about that, Lord Tully. There is a way to control the ice created by Winter's breath. Normally, I unleash something close to absolute zero, which practically turns the air into poison. But we can build a bridge using only a few dozen degrees below zero." He shrugged.

"That would certainly bother the men, but it would not kill them. It's the same as walking in the lands beyond the Wall. But not colder than that temperature. Besides, it's only a short stretch. As long as the men are prepared, they will cross quickly."

Daemon spoke while observing the chasm. The distance from one side to the other was no more than thirty meters.

At the same time, his two dragons descended from the skies. The men on the other side immediately went on alert.

Viridrax simply advanced, unleashing blasts of fire against those still trying to work on the defenses, burning positions and spreading chaos.

Meanwhile, Winter landed near the precipice. Daemon remained at the front of everyone.

His eyes turned completely white as Winter's eyes also changed. Shortly afterward, the dragon began breathing white flames into the lower part of the gorge.

A layer of ice began to form. Daemon carefully controlled the temperature to prevent it from becoming too dangerous.

The process took much longer than when he used absolute cold. In that case, everything would be created instantly. Even so, Winter continued breathing ice as the base of the bridge took shape.

Little by little, an enormous frozen walkway emerged, connecting both sides of the precipice.

Daemon also created two walls of ice on the sides. The men could easily slip and fall to their deaths without protection.

In addition, he used earth and stones to cover part of the frozen surface, using telekinesis to move a large amount and place it on top of the ice, intending to make it less slippery.

"Let's go. It won't melt anytime soon, and it can easily support the weight of an army of thirty thousand men."

With those words, the men began crossing.

They could certainly feel the cold beneath their feet, even through the layer of earth, but it was nothing more than a mild discomfort.

In just one or two minutes, the crossing was completed for each of them. The wagons also crossed without any difficulties.

Thus, the army overcame the first obstacle without suffering a single loss. The second challenge appeared shortly afterward.

The gorge narrowed as they advanced through the mountains. Normally, armies avoided that route, but it was much faster.

Daemon used Viridrax once again. The dragon descended from the skies, spewing fire upon all the men positioned with spears and bows on the other side. Quickly, their defensive positions were destroyed.

As the army moved even closer to the mountains, archers began appearing on the elevated sections, preparing to halt the advance.

Once again, the dragons did their work. They massacred every position where archers could use the advantage of height against the army.

When the defenders finally had no choice but to fight directly, Daemon mounted his horse.

Holding the Targaryen banner, he advanced alongside his men toward the battle. They had managed to gather around ten thousand men and attempted to fight when only a portion of the royal army had managed to enter the open field.

The intention was to destroy as much as possible before the more than thirty thousand men advanced completely. The result was insignificant. Daemon, together with his men, killed more than two thousand enemies before they began to surrender.

There was no way to defeat an army supported by two dragons. It had practically been a lost war from the beginning.

"Very well. Keep everyone under control," he ordered.

Then he raised his eyes to the sky and finally looked at the castle he had infiltrated that night to rescue Sansa.

There was no longer anyone trying to stop him. Daemon knew that Lysa Arryn was hysterical at that moment.

She was certainly furious upon discovering that her army had been defeated. "Let's go. Let's finish this."

Daemon said as he advanced. The walls, which were lined with nervous archers, were caught off guard by the two dragons. The creatures began landing on the towers, roaring as they crushed rooftops under their weight and threatened to unleash flames upon the entire castle.

The screams of men echoed throughout the place as they ran. Lysa was no different, clutching her son, Robert Arryn, who was also crying in fear inside the throne room.

Meanwhile, Petyr Baelish trembled in a corner, incapable of doing anything now that he no longer had his sight.

"Let's approach the gate," Daemon ordered.

The castle immediately began opening its gates.

"Ah, and here I was thinking I'd have to break them down." He murmured, somewhat disappointed by the lack of destruction.

Conquering the Vale had been far too easy. Daemon had enjoyed exploring the region with his dragons far more than dealing with Littlefinger's schemes.

"Take control of the entire castle," he ordered.

His men quickly advanced, disarming anyone who could pose a threat.

Meanwhile, Daemon proceeded alongside Brynden, who already knew the place well.

The group advanced to the throne room. There they found Lysa crying while seated on the throne, clutching Robert Arryn.

All of the Vale lords were also present, entering alongside them, including those who had already surrendered.

"Monster! Don't come near!" the woman began screaming desperately when she saw Daemon.

"Well, you know that doesn't offend me, right?" Daemon replied calmly.

"Don't come near my son! You're not going to kill my little Robert!"

"Mother... I'm scared..." the boy cried as he clung to her.

Daemon merely observed the scene with an indifferent expression. Brynden Tully sighed beside him.

"Take the boy away from her and place them under control," Daemon simply ordered.

His men immediately advanced. Lysa's eyes widened. In a desperate movement, she pulled a small vial from her clothing.

She tried to bring it to her son's mouth. Even Brynden looked at her in horror when he realized her intentions.

But she suddenly froze when the vial was already close to the boy's lips. Daemon had his hand raised, causing Lysa to freeze in place through telekinesis.

The vial simply flew out of her hand and landed in Daemon's.

While still keeping Lysa immobilized, he opened the container and smelled it.

"A painless poison." He looked around at everyone present.

"She wanted to kill her own son before handing him over to us."

He spoke while handing the vial to Brynden.

Indeed, Lysa had probably intended to kill herself as well. The fear of what Daemon might do to her after she was captured had completely consumed her.

What he had done to Petyr Baelish two days earlier had certainly traumatized her. She was completely hysterical. For some twisted reason, she preferred to give her son a quick death.

In any case, that act shocked all the lords of the Vale and the Riverlands standing behind Brynden and Daemon.

Daemon removed the telekinesis from the woman. She could barely speak when she was grabbed and pulled away by the men. Robert began screaming hysterically as he was separated from his mother.

On the other side, Lysa also fell into despair. "No! Please!"

She cried desperately. "I saw what you did to Petyr Baelish, you monster! You'll pay for everything you've done! You'll burn in the Seven Hells!" She kept screaming.

"Someone put a gag on this woman," Daemon said, somewhat irritated by the shouting.

"And bring a cloth for the child. Don't hurt him. He's already irritating enough as it is; don't give him even more reasons."

Quickly, his men did exactly as ordered. The gag was placed on Lysa, silencing her screams.

"Bring me Baelish. He's hiding in a room near the kitchens," Daemon said.

The man had chosen to hide like a coward. His soldiers immediately left to fetch him.

Meanwhile, Daemon began climbing the stairs. He passed by Lysa, who continued crying desperately even with the gag and while being restrained by men to keep her from moving.

Daemon did not even pay her any attention and continued upward until he reached the top.

Then he stopped and raised an eyebrow. "Are you serious?" His face showed pure disgust.

"You defecated here?" Daemon could see the stains and smell the odor.

That had not been Lysa. It had been Robert.

Making a disgusted face, he simply raised his hand. The floor began to crack. The sound echoed throughout the hall, alerting everyone present. With a simple motion, Daemon tore the throne away along with part of the platform it rested upon.

The entire structure slid toward a corner of the hall. He had intended to take the throne, but in that condition he would rather wait for someone to clean it first.

Next, he summoned a simple chair. After all, all of his real thrones were in King's Landing at that moment.

He sat down calmly.

"Now..." Daemon crossed his arms. "Let's deal with some long-standing enemies."
