Chapter 155: Asahi Complain
Thanks to Raiken, Hyuga Asahi and his family manage to escape disaster and not just them even the elders and their family also had walked away alive.
Without Raiken stepping in to stop the branch members, they most likely would die and the outcome would become very different, if Asahi was killed by his own clan that means for the first time in history, the civil war happen in Konoha.
Although he had saved them, Hyuga Asahi and the other elders didn't feel an ounce of gratitude toward him.
Instead, they hated him to the core.
If not because of him, they would still be respected and no one inside the clan dare to resist them.
So when Raiken brought them to Hokage, they voiced out their complain to him.
"Hokage sama, Raiken had destroyed the peace in the Hyuga Clan," said Hyuga Asahi, standing in the office with angry face. Hokage was surprised seeing Raiken brought Hyuga Clan here and before he could asky Why Asahi had complained first.
"What happen?" asked Sakumo while looking at Raikena and the others Hyuga Clan.
"He created a sealing jutsu without my knowledge or consent and used it to alter the Birdcage Seal on every single branch member in the residence. Now my own clan is in open revolt and I am holding him directly responsible."
Sakumo were surprised and he never knew what Birdcage Seal means, so he looked at Asahi and glanced at Raiken.
"Raiken," said Sakumo.
Even in this situation Raiken didn't even look panic so Sakumo become curious with Raiken
Raiken, who had been standing to the side with his arms folded, gave a small nod to indicate he was ready to respond.
"The Birdcage Seal in its original form has a flaw," said Raiken without any preamble. "The version the Hyuga have been using for generations creates a blindspot in the Byakugan. It narrows the range of vision and limits what the branch members can detect in combat. During the war that blindspot could have cost us lives and it was not something I was willing to leave unaddressed."
Nara Shikajin, who had been standing quietly to the side throughout, looked up.
"A blindspot?" said Shikajin. "In the Byakugan?"
"Wait, I never knew Hyuga Clan had birdcage seal what does that seal did?" asked Sakumo.
For a moment, the face of asahi changed because right now the secret of the seal would be exposed.
Danzo and Hiruzen had known about the birdcage seal thanks to root but Sakumo were new to this roles, so he had no idea what birdcage seal means.
Only Shikajin knew a glimpse of it but he never knew there is a blindspot of the Byakugan.
"Hokage sama, the birdcage seal are the seal created by our ancestor to protect our byakugan, upon death the eyes would instantly destroyed," said Asahi trying to protect himself.
Sakumo looked at him and nodded before looking back at Raiken.
"Why are you altering the seal Raiken?" asked Sakumo.
"A direct result of how the original seal interacts with the chakra network around the eyes, it created blindspot," replied Raiken. "The alteration I made corrects that so the eyes would regain the sight and the branch members now have full and unobstructed use of their kekkei genkai. Their eyes are better protected than they were before."
"That is not the point," said Asahi, his voice tightening with anger and beside him the other elders also looked at Raiken with hatred. "The point is that you entered clan territory, approached our branch members without the knowledge of the main family and altered a seal that has existed within the Hyuga Clan for generations. You had no authority to do that."
"Wait Im sorry, I just saved your ass from being beaten by your own clan member and the seal was made during the war," replied Raiken. "Correct that first."
"Your clan trying to kill you?" Shikajin looked at Asahi shocked.
Before Asahi or other elders can reply, Raiken cut first.
"Yes, I just saved him and now he blame me and the seal I altered was the component that allows pain to be inflicted on another person at will," said Raiken, looking at Asahi directly now he plan to expose about that torture part to Hokage. "The part that protects the Byakugan from falling into enemy hands is completely untouched. If you would like to explain to the Hokage which part of that you want restored, please go ahead."
Asahi jaw tightened.
"The seal exists to maintain order within the clan," said Asahi.
"Then maintain order through leadership," replied Raiken simply. "Not through pain."
Sakumo raised a hand slightly and both of them went quiet.
"Wait what does maintaining the order?"
"Hokage sama, the birdcage seal has another function which is to inflict the pain, once it activated it would inflict a pain that so unbearable that is why all the Hyuga branch members never dare to learn anything outside of their clan teaching," revealed Raiken.
"Wait, what?" Sakumo unknowingly had standing up from his seat before pointing one of his hand to Asahi. "Did you tortured your own clan member?"
Asahi was shocked and never dared to say anything.
Sakumo looked at Raiken.
"Raiken," said Sakumo. "You altered the seal of another clan without informing me?"
"It is," said Raiken without hesitation.
"Why?" asked Sakumo.
"Because if I had informed the Hokage office first it would have reached the main family before it reached the branch members and the alteration would never have happened," said Raiken. "The branch members of the Hyuga Clan have been living under a system that allowed the main family to cause them physical pain as a method of control. Not as punishment for genuine wrongdoing but as a tool to enforce obedience. Women were being forced into marriages they did not agree to. Branch members were being denied access to jutsu that every other clan in this village trains freely. I made a decision and I stand by it."
Everyone felt quiet and even the others Hyuga didn't dare to say anything.
Shikajin looked at Asahi.
"Is what he is describing accurate?" asked Shikajin carefully.
Asahi said nothing immediately and the his silence means what Raiken had said was the truth.
"Hyuga Asahi," said Sakumo, his voice dropping slightly. "I am going to need you to answer that question."
"The internal matters of the Hyuga Clan are not subject to outside review," said Asahi finally, which was not an answer and everyone in the room understood it as such.
Sakumo leaned back in his chair and looked at the ceiling briefly before bringing his eyes back down and looked at them.
"Raiken," said Sakumo. "The method you used was outside proper procedure and that is something we will need to address formally."
Raiken nodded once accepting that.
"Asahi," continued Sakumo, turning to the clan leader. "The Hokage will be conducting a review of the internal practices you have just been accused of, I expect your full cooperation."
Asahi opened his mouth.
"That was not a request," said Sakumo.
