Chapter 182 - Ch 231-232

Chapter 231 George's Gaze

"Sir, Hong Kong Island Police Headquarters has concluded today's investigation and has a written report."

The young and beautiful Elizabeth brought a file.

George didn't even glance at it, his mind entirely focused on grilling the steak.

Grilling steak was a skill that required complete concentration.

A well-done steak was the ultimate test of a chef's skill; a minute too long made it tough, a minute too short left it undercooked.

George wasn't a chef; he was an officer in the Political Department, and grilling steak was merely a way to practice his focus.

Finally, the steak was done. George sprinkled salt and pepper with satisfaction, cut a small piece with his steak knife, tasted it, and a smile appeared at the corner of his mouth:

"Excellent!"

He then quickly sliced the steak and placed it on two plates, very gentlemanly handing one to Elizabeth first, and then taking his own.

He opened a bottle of red wine:

"Put down those damn annoying official duties; we are going to enjoy some delicious food."

Elizabeth said happily:

"Thank you, sir!"

The two enjoyed a lovely meal, and then George immediately got down to business:

"Who did Hong Kong Island Regional Headquarters assign to the investigation?"

Elizabeth sat up straight:

"Sir, Chief Lin assigned Li Ying to the investigation."

"Li Ying is one of the most famous detectives in Hong Kong. Yesterday, he handled two cases, and reports for both have been submitted."

Don't ask why the Political Department could view reports from Hong Kong Island Police Headquarters. The Foreigner, in order to control Hong Kong police detectives, specifically established the Political Department, which had the authority to inquire about any case.

"One is a counterfeit currency syndicate case. Li Ying's report describes it in great detail. Behind this counterfeit currency case must be a behemoth."

"The counterfeit money was so realistic that it could only be detected with professional equipment."

"Fortunately, the counterfeit currency syndicate was making US dollars; otherwise, it would have been a big problem for us."

"I am certain that the deceased head of the counterfeit currency syndicate could not have produced such an intricate version; someone must have been guiding him."

"However, Lin decided to close the case."

Elizabeth shifted in her seat and made her judgment,

"Lin is an old fox; he doesn't want to offend the criminal organization behind the counterfeit currency syndicate."

George sneered:

"Why be so subtle?"

"The best at making counterfeit currency in the world are banks. It's correct that Lin doesn't want to offend banks."

"Don't mention them; even we don't want to offend banks."

Elizabeth said in a low voice:

"Sir, we are the Anglo-Saxon Military Intelligence Agency!"

George laughed heartily:

"Elizabeth, you are a beautiful woman, your cleavage is ample, your backside is shapely, you are a captivating temptress..."

"However, I must tell you..."

"I hope your professional competence can match your beauty; otherwise, according to the way things are in Hong Kong, you will just be a beautiful vase, only for looking at, not for use."

Elizabeth quickly apologized:

"Sir, I will work hard to improve my skills."

George nodded in satisfaction:

"We are the Military Intelligence Agency, it's true, but always remember not to underestimate anyone, especially anyone with money."

"Even if we are a powerful department, in our Mainland, we dare not, or cannot, offend those wealthy people."

"The West is the world of the rich."

"You can freely despise the Royal Family; at most, they are just human stamps... What's with that expression?"

Elizabeth covered her mouth in surprise:

"Sir, that's the Royal Family!"

George sneered:

"You don't actually think we serve the Royal Family, do you?"

Elizabeth was stunned:

"Aren't we?"

George shook his head and sighed:

"To tell you the truth, in the eyes of the members of the House of Commons, the Royal Family are nothing more than mascots."

"When they are needed, a notice is sent, asking them to go through the motions."

"When they are not needed, they can go wherever they want, as long as they don't bother those honorable members."

"This is the consensus of all members of the House of Commons."

Elizabeth's entire way of thinking was overturned:

"It's actually like this?"

George smiled:

"Then I ask you, who do those members of the House of Commons listen to?"

Elizabeth was about to say "the voters," but then she stopped herself. Instinct told her that wasn't the correct answer.

Fortunately, George didn't need her to answer; it was just a casual question.

"The members of the House of Commons listen to the rich."

"To run for member of parliament, you need money to campaign. Wealthy people provide them with sponsorships, pushing them into the position of member of parliament, so the members then need to give those wealthy people sufficient returns."

"The wealthy are our cornerstone."

"Not just the Anglo-Saxon, all Western countries are like this."

"Our foundation is the wealthy."

"Despising the Royal Family, you suffer no loss, but if you offend the wealthy, you will find it impossible to move an inch in the Western world."

"I'll give you a piece of advice: do not offend the wealthy."

"Unfortunately, Hong Kong also adopts the Anglo-Saxon system, and the wealthy here likewise cannot be offended."

Elizabeth found it hard to believe.

George had already started this topic, so he decided to make it clearer:

"Elizabeth, what do you think we came to Hong Kong for?"

Elizabeth subconsciously said:

"To cooperate with the Governor and rectify Hong Kong!"

George was extremely speechless:

"I am just a major in the Military Intelligence Agency; I don't have that much authority to do such things."

"You can throw those political slogans aside."

"Our mission in Hong Kong is actually just one—to make money! Make money! And it's still about making money!"

"Make money at all costs!"

"This is the most important mission the Military Intelligence Agency has given us."

Elizabeth felt a little sad; George's gentlemanly image in her eyes was utterly destroyed.

George said faintly:

"The Mainland's finances are not good."

"Not only are prices soaring, but unemployment is also high, and the financial burden is heavy."

"We must continuously make money, the more the better, so that we can save our government."

"We must do whatever it takes—stealing, swindling, drug trafficking, robbery, even murder—as long as it can bring enough money to the Anglo-Saxon. I can even do it myself!"

"It doesn't matter if we get a bad name, as long as the Anglo-Saxon can return to its former glory, that's what matters!"

"Do you understand?!"

Elizabeth was filled with awe; she felt as if she had seen a saint.

George's face became incredibly cold:

"We will use unscrupulous means to make money. We will use drugs to conquer all Triads. We will use money to corrupt certain people in the Hong Kong Government. We will also choose the businessmen in the Hong Kong Government who are most loyal to our Anglo-Saxon to support..."

"This task is very arduous, and we must achieve results as quickly as possible."

Elizabeth asked, puzzled:

"Sir, we still have time, don't we?"

George shook his head:

"We don't have time. Hong Kong will be returned to the Mainland in a few years, and we must complete a series of tasks within these few years..."

"Elizabeth, this is a very difficult task to accomplish."

"The mission hasn't officially started yet; I allow you to withdraw early."

Elizabeth's body trembled, and then she said:

"Sir, I will not withdraw."

George looked at her indifferently:

"Is that so?"

"Are you willing to give everything for the mission?"

Elizabeth said firmly:

"I am willing!"

George shook his head:

"Don't agree to things so quickly. Only decisions made after careful consideration are firm."

"Now, take your time to think it over carefully. Are you sure you can pay any price?"

Elizabeth bit her lip and said:

"I can!"

George stepped forward and pressed her:

"What if you encounter a tricky person and are asked to use a honey trap?"

Elizabeth's body swayed. A honey trap? Wouldn't that mean sacrificing herself?

Could she agree?

Elizabeth thought for a moment, then finally gritted her teeth and said:

"I can!"

George lightly patted her cheek. Elizabeth didn't move; she was terrified!

"Relax, my girl, I wouldn't want you to use a honey trap."

Elizabeth forced a smile.

George sat back down and raised his glass:

"Since we have reached a consensus, and my most important assistant is in place, then let us raise our glasses and celebrate!"

The two clinked glasses from a distance, not savoring the taste of the red wine, and drank it all in one gulp.

George's face became cold again:

"Elizabeth, give the counterfeit currency case files to Willie, and then have him find suitable people to continue the work."

Elizabeth was startled:

"But this is US dollars!"

George said faintly:

"I said, our goal is to make money, by any means necessary."

"I don't care about other countries; I only care about Anglo-Saxon."

"As long as Anglo-Saxon can live better, what does it matter to me if other countries turn into ruins?"

George's gaze turned cold,

"Elizabeth, you must understand that here, we don't need to consider the feelings of other people or other countries."

"We only serve our own country."

"Never be constrained by worldly moral concepts; otherwise, you won't be able to do our job well, let alone bear this kind of pressure."

"We are destined to bear infamy!"

Elizabeth's body trembled, then slowly became firm:

"For Anglo-Saxon, I am willing!"

George nodded slowly:

"I know you are an elite trained by Anglo-Saxon. Now, we need to have a good, open chat, which might help eliminate some of your misconceptions."

Elizabeth firmly disagreed with George's statement:

"Sir, my understanding is very normal."

George smiled and nodded, then asked:

"Which race do you think is the most superior in this world?"

Elizabeth answered without hesitation:

"We, the white people!"

George sneered:

"Then how come we, the most excellent white people, don't have a splendid, long-standing civilization?"

"Our civilization even has to cling to Greece?"

"Modern science proves that we and the Hans actually share a common ancestor. When Greek civilization flourished, we were all barbarians."

Boom!

"Moreover, what I want to tell you is that before the Renaissance, we didn't have our own history at all."

"You've come to Hong Kong Island; you know how vast the history of the Mainland is."

"They recorded the history of every dynasty."

"Not orally transmitted poems, not the swan songs of bards, but actual written words."

"Recorded generation after generation."

"The so-called five thousand years of history is built up by one thick historical book after another."

"Most importantly, they not only recorded their own history but also the history of surrounding countries."

"Don't make that face; do you think they were lying?"

"Well, I'll tell you, they also recorded celestial phenomena."

"For example, the Battle of Muye, which determined the fate of the Shang and Zhou dynasties, do you know which day it was?"

Elizabeth showed a look as if she had seen a ghost:

"They could know that?"

George shrugged:

"My dear, didn't I just say they also recorded celestial phenomena?"

"As it happens, there was a special celestial phenomenon that day."

"According to calculations, this event occurred on January 20, 1046 BC. Even the specific time was recorded."

Elizabeth covered her mouth with both hands, simply unable to believe it was true.

"Unfortunately, our history is not even one ten-thousandth of theirs."

"Even our civilization was stolen from their hands."

Elizabeth swayed, her face turning pale:

"Sir, that's not true!"

George shrugged:

"It is true."

"During the Ming Dynasty, our Western missionaries entered the Mainland, translated a large number of ancient texts, and brought them back."

"Then, not long after that, the Renaissance suddenly emerged."

George sneered,

"I am a soldier of the Military Intelligence Agency; I always assume the worst intentions in others. The Renaissance didn't happen earlier or later; it just happened after that specific time."

"Don't you find it strange?"

Elizabeth said with difficulty:

"Are you saying…"

George smiled and said:

"Those missionaries were all spies."

"Specializing in stealing knowledge from the Mainland."

"This is the same role as Okamoto's envoys to Tang China."

"There's no choice; who made the Mainland the Land of Eternity?"

"They have a natural advantage."

"God endowed them with the most intelligent minds; they can clearly know how to reach the correct path. If we don't steal knowledge from their home, whose hands would we steal it from?"

Elizabeth still found it hard to believe:

"Sir, it's actually very difficult to determine a period of history based solely on written records."

George looked at Elizabeth approvingly:

"Exactly. That's why there are a large number of cultural relics and historical materials in the Mainland. They also have a very commendable saying called 'isolated evidence is not proof'."

"What does that mean? It means a single example cannot serve as evidence."

"But I want to tell you, don't learn this kind of historical judgment."

Elizabeth asked in confusion:

"Why?"

George said faintly:

"Because, for our history, almost everything anyone gives you is an isolated case."

"Only the history of these past few hundred years has significant connections."

Elizabeth completely gave up hope.

However, to her surprise, George said:

"Did you think I would condemn the missionaries?"

"No!"

"I deeply admire their actions. It is because of them that we truly began the evolution of civilization."

"They are heroes."

Elizabeth was stunned for a moment, then suddenly began to understand George's words.

Connecting it with what he had just said, she had a new realization.

Military Intelligence Agency personnel only have their country in their hearts; traditional morals should not bind them.

George continued:

"It doesn't matter if there's no history; we can fabricate it."

"As long as it's said enough, repeated enough, what isn't true will become true."

Elizabeth said with difficulty:

"Is that necessary?"

George nodded:

"Absolutely necessary."

"Otherwise, how else can we conquer the Land of Eternity?"

Elizabeth cautiously asked, "What is the Land of Eternity?"

George pointed north casually:

"The Mainland is the Land of Eternity."

"God bestowed the people of the Mainland with the most intelligent minds; they are naturally able to discern the truth of things."

"So, from the day they came into existence, they have been the most advanced in this world."

"However, these people do not believe in God."

"This is a test given by God to his people."

"Whoever conquers the Land of Eternity will enjoy the sweetest fruits."

(This part is not made up by the author; some thick-headed Westerners truly believe this. For example, some Westerners view the 1962 Sino-Indian War with this kind of thinking. Interested Yanzus can look it up.)

Elizabeth asked in confusion:

"Didn't we conquer it?"

George's mouth twitched slightly:

"If we really conquered it, Hong Kong Island would forever belong to our Anglo-Saxon, and Thatcher wouldn't have stumbled like that in front of the Great Hall!"

Elizabeth completely gave up hope.

George's tone became heavier,

"Listen, my girl, to engage in Military Intelligence Agency work, you must discard all false perceptions; you must come into contact with the truth of this world."

"This is not some romantic story, nor is it a tale of princesses and dragon-slaying heroes from a fairy tale."

"There is only naked self-interest here."

"If you can't do it, you'll easily be devoured!"

"Devoured both physically and spiritually!"

"Now, do you still want to hear more?"

Elizabeth replied almost reflexively, looking at George with eyes full of longing:

"Yes!"

George's lips curved slightly upwards:

"Very good, my girl, then you are qualified to continue listening."

George gazed at Elizabeth; he was very pleased with his masterpiece.

Through his words just now, he had shattered the worldview Elizabeth had built over twenty years. Now, this lovely rose was ready to be dyed by him.

Whether white, red, or blue, he could freely paint her soul however he wished.

George smiled and glanced at the plate in front of Elizabeth,

"The medicine provided by the Military Intelligence Agency is very effective."

"I'll have to call them later and ask for a few more doses."

"If I handle this properly, there will be many capable assistants like Elizabeth."

"It's just a pity; I heard this medicine is very precious?"

"It also seems to be very demanding on the user."

"Does it not work as well for people with strong wills?"

"How troublesome."

While admiring his masterpiece, George secretly fumed:

"The Empire is getting more and more corrupt. How did innocent girls like Elizabeth and weaklings like Willie pass the initial selection?"

"But this is good too; it makes things easier for me!"

Chapter 232 Shattered Worldviews

"Sir, what are your orders?"

Elizabeth had already been captivated by George.

Where had the poor little white flower ever suffered such a setback?

This was no longer a simple setback; George was not only manipulating her but also secretly using drugs on her.

From this moment on, Elizabeth would be completely loyal to George.

"Just follow our agenda."

George's tone was very gentle—Elizabeth was his assistant, so naturally, he would be as gentle as possible.

"You need to understand, I don't speak my Mainland dialect, and I don't even speak Cantonese."

"You are my spokesperson."

"I have only one request for you: no matter who you face, you must always show our toughness."

"Outwardly, we are the Political Department, but in reality, we are the Military Intelligence Agency; we are inherently a violent organ."

Elizabeth was completely convinced:

"Sir, your command is my wish."

George was even more satisfied:

"Didn't you say there was another case?"

Elizabeth quickly said:

"Yes, there's another case."

"Duke Andrei reported losing a briefcase and demanded that the Hong Kong Police Force find it no matter what."

George sneered continuously:

"Was this case also investigated by Li of the Hong Kong Island Regional Headquarters?"

Elizabeth nodded repeatedly:

"Yes."

"Undoubtedly, he is one of the ace detectives of the Hong Kong Island Regional Headquarters."

"And his efficiency is terrifyingly high."

"Early this morning, he already submitted the report to Chief Lin."

George paused slightly, saying with a half-smile:

"My girl, please remember to use your brain more next time you encounter such a situation."

Elizabeth looked at him puzzled:

"Is something wrong?"

George smiled and shook his head:

"Very wrong!"

"Even if such a case is handled quickly, there wouldn't be a written report submitted after only a few hours of investigation—a verbal report would already be the limit!"

Elizabeth's expression changed:

"Then this report…"

George mocked:

"Lin is an old fox, very shrewd."

"Li is an ace detective, so he naturally noticed something was off."

"Lin is an elite of the Police Force, so he naturally knows that some cases can be deadly."

"I guess Lin is probably trying to shirk responsibility…"

Elizabeth puzzled:

"This case happened in the Hong Kong Island jurisdiction, so how can they shirk responsibility?"

"And who can share the responsibility with them?"

George looked at Elizabeth helplessly:

"What are you holding?"

Elizabeth looked at George in disbelief:

"Chief Lin knew we would take over?"

George leisurely sipped his red wine:

"Didn't I tell you not to underestimate anyone?"

"Anyone who underestimates others will be the first to suffer."

"This isn't some old adage; these are hard-earned lessons."

Elizabeth's face turned pale. Her arrogance was shattered; at this moment, she truly had no basis for pride left.

George was indeed very satisfied with Elizabeth's transformation.

"Alright, continue."

Elizabeth continued reading the report:

"The Hong Kong Island Police Headquarters' investigation report states that the incident occurred yesterday afternoon, but Duke Andrei only reported it close to midnight."

"Duke Andrei was involved in a transaction."

"Someone entered a unit at the scene of the crime before him, and then Duke Andrei entered."

"The two didn't even meet."

"The former left a briefcase in that unit, which was precisely the one that led to Andrei's attack."

George's expression stirred:

"Is there conclusive evidence?"

Elizabeth quickly flipped through:

"There is!"

"The chain of evidence is quite complete, and Li's statement is true."

George folded his arms and frowned:

"The case seems solvable, so why would Li wash his hands of it?"

"No matter how unpopular Andrei is, he's still an Anglo-Saxon Duke. This is a huge honor, the kind that can lead to promotions and raises…"

Elizabeth flipped through the report and looked up, saying:

"Sir, I think I know why."

George gestured vaguely:

"Tell me why."

Elizabeth continued:

"Li's report suspects that Andrei was targeted early on, and given Andrei's physique and skin color, this possibility is extremely high."

"The suspect was very patient and likely observed all of Andrei's actions throughout."

"However, there are no third-party footprints inside that unit, which means he did not enter it."

"Only after Andrei obtained the bag did the suspect suddenly make a move."

"He easily put Andrei to sleep for seven or eight hours without causing any injury…"

"At least from Li's contact with Andrei, Andrei seemed to be in good spirits."

"Li suspects…"

George asked:

"Suspects what?"

Elizabeth said expressionlessly:

"The suspect has a Special Forces background!"

She was already too exhausted to complain.

Her worldview had been shattered early this morning; a little more wouldn't make much difference.

George suddenly became interested:

"With a Special Forces background…"

George tapped the table with his hand, rhythmically.

"How interesting…"

"Elizabeth, among the intelligence we have, is there anyone with a Special Forces background?"

Elizabeth immediately said:

"Yes!"

"Several officers in the Security Bureau are former military personnel."

"Several teams in the ICAC are entirely composed of retired military personnel…"

George shook his head:

"No, I'm not talking about those with a military background."

"I'm talking about Special Forces."

"Li's sense of smell is very keen, and Andrei also served in the military; he wasn't just there to pass the time."

"In addition, he exercises regularly, so to subdue Andrei silently, that's not something an ordinary person can do."

"That suspect must have a Special Forces background."

Elizabeth couldn't help but retort:

"Couldn't it be someone from our Mainland?"

George thought for a moment and said:

"That possibility is small."

"Our Mainland doesn't have a Special Forces designation, but they have Reconnaissance Companies."

"They do things similar to Western Special Forces."

"However, such talents are extremely valuable; even after retirement, they are not allowed to go abroad within three years."

"Exclude them!"

Elizabeth was completely convinced.

As expected of Officer George, his analysis of problems was well-reasoned and supported by facts, so much so that even if Elizabeth wanted to refute him, she found she couldn't.

"Are there any other people with a Special Forces background?"

Elizabeth quickly said:

"Yes!"

"There's a captain in the Anglo-Saxon Garrison who served in the Special Air Service."

George was slightly stunned:

"Really?"

Elizabeth nodded repeatedly:

"Yes, precisely because Captain Dyson has experience serving in the Special Air Service, our Headquarters even specially approved ten sets of Special Air Service equipment for the Garrison to use!"

George cursed loudly:

"Are the generals in the Mainland crazy?"

"Giving the Garrison Special Air Service individual equipment?"

Elizabeth puzzled:

"Sir, is there a problem?"

George gave a cold laugh and took a deep breath:

"Have there been any inexplicable cases in Hong Kong recently?"

Elizabeth couldn't keep up with George's unusually circuitous thought process:

"Sir, I don't understand what you mean."

George sneered:

"What I mean is… have there been any very inexplicable cases recently, the kind where the suspect is completely unknown?"

Elizabeth immediately said:

"There is one."

George asked:

"Which one?"

Elizabeth swayed her waist, taking out another document,

"This is a file submitted by the West Kowloon Police Headquarters."

"In a certain part of West Kowloon, a team of people ambushed and killed a team of ICAC field agents."

"…Oh my goodness, this ICAC team was an elite squad made up of retired soldiers."

"This four-person team was killed in a short amount of time."

George sneered even more:

"But why say it's special?"

Elizabeth whispered:

"Two members of the deceased ICAC team were suspected to have been stabbed through the heart from under the ribs with a Special Air Service multi-functional dagger."

"The other two were killed with a single shot from an HK MP5 submachine gun!"

George was stunned:

"Killed with a single shot? A submachine gun?"

Elizabeth, realizing her description, quickly flipped through the files and exclaimed in horror:

"Sir, yes, it was a single shot. The killer used a submachine gun and fired one shot!"

George suddenly clapped his hands:

"Interesting!"

"Truly interesting!"

"No wonder the West Kowloon Police Headquarters let go; if I were in their position, I would let go too."

Elizabeth said nervously:

"Sir, are you saying that the Garrison might have been involved in these two cases?"

George retorted:

"What do you think?"

Elizabeth couldn't answer.

George said indifferently:

"Many things aren't as good as you imagine; sitting in our position, the things we have to do are quite troublesome."

"Everyone must be suspected."

Elizabeth couldn't help but say:

"But for the Garrison to do that… they'd face a court-martial."

George chuckled, "My girl, don't be so naive."

"As they say in the Mainland, this is called 'the emperor is far away and the sky is high'."

"Who would know about these things?"

"And even if the local people knew, what then?"

"Could they really punish these soldiers?"

Elizabeth found it truly hard to believe: "But they made a mistake!"

George shrugged: "Made a mistake?"

"Do you know that in other places, local people went to investigate, and then that person was bombed to death by terrorists."

"The investigation then came to nothing."

Elizabeth didn't react immediately.

It was a while before she came to her senses, her face pale: "Bombed to death by terrorists?"

"Were they really terrorists?"

George shrugged: "Maybe, maybe not, who knows!"

Elizabeth instantly understood the cruelty of the situation and no longer dared to harbor any illusions.

"Mark these two cases."

"Just handle them according to the Police Station's procedures."

Elizabeth asked: "Are we not following up?"

George retorted: "Do you want to be assassinated for no clear reason?"

Elizabeth shook her head desperately; she was only in her twenties, in the prime of her life, and hadn't lived enough yet!

How could she bear to die?

"Rich experience is a valuable asset."

"No one else is a fool."

"If others are eager to let go, then you must understand that the waters here are deeper than you imagine."

"Our best approach is to listen to others' advice and not venture into deep waters!"

"So…"

"We must learn to let go!"

"Whether it's Chief Lin of Hong Kong Island Police Headquarters or Huang of West Kowloon Police Headquarters, they are both elites of the Police Force."

"If these two elites feel at a loss, do you think you can solve it?"

Elizabeth wanted to argue, but George continued, "Even if you look down on these two because of their skin color, you can't look down on the two commissioners of the ICAC, can you?"

"Why are those two also unmoved?"

"The deceased team of investigators were the ICAC's elite."

"Why aren't those two thinking of revenge?"

"Have you considered that?"

Elizabeth's face was ashen!

Some things don't need to be thought through; if you really delve into them, you'll get extremely terrifying results.

Elizabeth said unwillingly: "Sir, are we just leaving it like this?"

George said calmly: "Patience has always been a virtue, especially when your strength is not enough to crush the opponent."

"Not only must we be patient, but we must also learn to mislead the opponent."

"As God said, if the opponent strikes our right cheek, we might as well offer the left cheek for him to strike."

"This is just a difference in strategy."

"As long as we seize the opportunity, we will naturally bring it back with interest."

Elizabeth could not hide her disappointment: "Sir, I thought our work would be very smooth…"

George burst out laughing: "You want the thrill of an easy victory, don't you?"

Elizabeth nodded solemnly.

George said speechlessly: "I also want to win easily with sheer strength…"

"Unfortunately, our strength is insufficient."

Elizabeth said very unwillingly: "We are agents of the Military Intelligence Agency."

George's expression was serious: "Then who do you think has the greatest power in Hong Kong?"

"Where do our strengths rank?"

Elizabeth thought for a moment and said: "The Governor has the greatest power, followed by the Garrison, and then us."

George sighed: "If you think that way, I'll probably be holding your funeral very soon!"

Elizabeth's face was deathly pale: "Sir!"

George said calmly: "In Hong Kong, the most powerful people are the rich!"

"Always remember, in the Western world, the most powerful people are always the rich."

"Unless it's wartime, this rule might be broken, otherwise, the rich will always be the ones who can mobilize the most resources."

"I don't want to drag us, the Political Department, into an abyss because of you; at that time, I might have to sacrifice a pawn to save the rook!"

Elizabeth's face lost all color.

"Secondly, the most powerful is not the Governor, but the people of Hong Kong."

"We don't have sovereignty here, only jurisdiction. How many Anglo-Saxons are there?"

"If the people of Hong Kong really wanted to overthrow us, it wouldn't take much effort at all."

"What's more, Hong Kong also has a powerful Mainland."

Elizabeth couldn't help but argue: "But… the Mainland isn't strong."

George scoffed: "You should read more and not listen to those empty flatteries. Since the Mainland was founded, all its foreign wars have been victorious!"

"You tell me it's not strong?"

"More than twenty years ago, the Mainland still fought one against sixteen, almost beating all the powerful countries in the world."

"Not just the United States, but also us Anglo-Saxons."

"Why do you think Mrs. Thatcher fell that time in front of the City Hall?"

"Was she doing it on purpose?"

Elizabeth was silent, not daring to speak.

George felt exhausted.

Elizabeth had been in Hong Kong longer than him, had arrived earlier than him, yet he still had to tell her these things.

If it weren't for Elizabeth's beauty potentially playing a special role in the future, George wouldn't have wasted his breath; he would have slapped her long ago!

The room fell silent for a moment.

George asked: "Are there any major events in the Underworld this week?"

Elizabeth quickly replied: "Yes."

"Tung Sing's Crow and two others committed an uprising, killing the former Tung Sing Chairman, Camel, injuring the former Hung Hing Chairman, Chiang Tin-Sung, and also killing the current Tung Sing Chairman, Ah Bun, at Camel's funeral, eliminating a number of Tung Sing elders…"

George's eyes lit up: "Tung Sing's Crow? This is a talent!"

Elizabeth was stunned; this was a talent?

George said excitedly: "Only such lawless people will cooperate with us. As long as we can demonstrate power that firmly overwhelms them, then we will be able to firmly control these three."

"Never forget our mission—to make money by any means necessary!"

Elizabeth suddenly understood, then regrettably said: "But these three were dealt with by Tung Sing's internal rules."

George immediately lost interest.

"Today, Hung Hing's new Dragon Head, Liang Kun, is holding a Dragon Head banquet, and the leaders of other Triads in the Underworld will all be attending."

"Should we send someone to observe?"

"Perhaps we'll find suitable candidates."

Elizabeth offered "pertinent" advice.

George looked at Elizabeth speechlessly: "You're not looking for helpers for us; you're creating opponents."

"These gang members are everywhere in the Mainland; don't you know their temperament?"

"Face is everything!"

"If we dare to show up there today, all the Triads present today will be hostile towards us."

"You wouldn't not know how troublesome Triads can be, would you?"

Elizabeth couldn't help but argue: "This isn't Anglo-Saxon Mainland; this is Hong Kong, the situation is still different."

George sneered: "It is indeed different."

"They will be even more volatile than the Triads in the Mainland."

"Skin color is our amulet; in Hong Kong, we enjoy some unspoken privileges."

"But you must know, skin color can sometimes become our death warrant."

"Triads are very violent!"

Elizabeth immediately dared not speak.

George mused: "I've heard Liang Kun's name in several briefings over the past few weeks."

"Perhaps he will be our partner."

"According to the people from the Mainland, I should show him goodwill first, perhaps help him out a bit…"

"Make a call to Ren at New Territories Police Headquarters and send a few cars to that restaurant…"

Elizabeth quickly said: "Arrogance Restaurant!"

George nodded slightly: "Yes, arrange a few cars at Arrogance Restaurant to protect the incoming Underworld figures, but don't go up and disturb them."

"Just prevent any disturbances from occurring."

Elizabeth asked confusedly: "If we don't explain the situation, will they understand?"

George said unceremoniously: "They are much more reasonable than you."
