Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

The static of the radio sounded exceptionally noisy in the enclosed carriage.

Andrea slapped the center console twice hard, irritably changing channels in an attempt to find a news station broadcasting traffic conditions.

The very moment she looked up at the rearview mirror inside the car, her entire body froze.

On the back seat, that man named Ling Feng was leaning casually against the backrest, and his hand was currently holding firmly onto her younger sister Amy's hand, their fingers intertwined tightly!

Looking at Amy again, that usually chattering little firecracker was now lowering her head like a bullied steamed bun, her cheeks as red as tomatoes. Not only did she not brush away that greasy hand, but her body was even faintly leaning towards the other person.

Andrea was so angered her liver hurt, her teeth grinding audibly.

Was this silly girl's head filled with water? No matter how much this man fit Eastern aesthetics, and no matter how he had just displayed a hugely oppressive large sniper rifle, she couldn't just throw herself at him like this!

How many hours had passed since getting into the car? They hadn't even figured out each other's eighteen generations of ancestors, yet they were already holding hands?

Sensing the thick resentment coming from the front row, Ling Feng lazily raised his head.

Their gazes locked directly within the narrow surface of the rearview mirror.

Andrea originally thought this brat would restrain himself after being caught red-handed, and at least quickly let go to cover it up.

Who would have thought that not only did Ling Feng not release Amy's hand, but he deliberately raised their intertwined hands a little higher, shaking them purposely within the range of the rearview mirror.

Immediately following that, Ling Feng raised his chin and arched an eyebrow at Andrea in the mirror.

That look was as overbearing as it could possibly get.

A breath directly stuck in Andrea's chest, almost suffocating her to death. He was too arrogant! This person was simply lawless!

Ling Feng, sitting in the back row, was actually feeling extremely thrilled.

Since the system's positioning for him was a route of leaving affections everywhere, did he still need to put on the act of a righteous person?

The doomsday was about to erupt fully, and the order of the rule of law would instantly turn into waste paper, with everything speaking through strength.

To still put on a pretense of a decent person acting all coy and timid at a time like this was either having a screw loose in the brain or pure self-torture.

In this troubled world, whatever caught one's eye was taken; with the system's blessing, wasn't acting like Cao Cao amazing? Completely letting oneself go—this was the correct way to open up survival in the last days!

Andrea took a deep breath and fiercely pressed the horn on the steering wheel, using this to vent the dissatisfaction in her heart.

At the same time, she let out a heavy snort, abruptly turning her face away to stare out the window, attempting to express her protest in this manner.

Hearing that angry snort coming from the front, Amy shrank into a ball out of fright.

Of course she understood why her older sister was angry; she had indeed been far too unreserved just now. She tried to forcefully pull her hand back, wanting to salvage a bit of dignity in this cramped space.

But Ling Feng's hand was like iron pliers; not only did it remain completely motionless, but instead, as she struggled, his rough fingertips smoothly grazed back and forth twice across the back of her hand.

A wave of numbness surged straight up her arm to her brain.

Amy instantly went soft, her cheeks burning even hotter, and resignedly leaning back against the backrest, she completely gave up resisting.

Time trickled away minute by minute.

The very last bit of orange-red sunset glow on the horizon also began to dissipate, and the entire highway was completely enveloped in the shadows of dusk.

The anxious drivers outside began getting out of their cars in groups to borrow lights and smoke everywhere, complaints and curses rising one after another, and the entire Route 72 turned into a complete mess.

Ling Feng moved his shoulders slightly.

This damned traffic jam was obviously very abnormal. Having wasted so much time here, there wasn't even any movement of clearing up ahead.

Constantly shrinking inside the car waiting for death was definitely not his style.

He had to go up front to check out the situation.

He turned his head sideways, looking at Amy who was close at hand.

Under the dim lighting inside the carriage, the little girl's breathing was somewhat hurried, her long eyelashes fluttering slightly, making her look exceptionally alluring.

Ling Feng simply leaned closer to that pretty face, unceremoniously kissing her on that delicate, flawless cheek.

"Mwah!"

The kiss was very solid, and the sound was extremely loud in the quiet carriage.

[Ding! Detected upgrade in intimate contact! Pleasure Points +200!]

Awesome! Farming these perks was simply too satisfying!

"Ah!" Amy sprang up as if electrocuted, covering the kissed cheek with both hands, her blue eyes wide open, her earlobes even red enough to bleed.

"What are you doing?!" Andrea in the front row completely went berserk, unbuckled her seatbelt and turned around, claws bared and teeth bared as she prepared to cross the center console to grab him.

"Anxious already?" Ling Feng leaned back to dodge Andrea's hand, taking the opportunity to pat Amy's head. "I'm getting out of the car to check the road conditions ahead. The two of you stay in the car and lock the doors, don't run around no matter what."

Andrea was so angry her chest rose and fell violently, pointing at Ling Feng and cursing vehemently: "You want to run away right after taking advantage of her? What do you take us for?!"

"I don't have time to run away right after taking advantage; getting down to serious business is what matters." As Ling Feng spoke, he pushed open the car door and pointed ahead. "There's a handgun in the passenger side glove compartment, fully loaded. Take it for self-defense while I'm not here. If some blind idiot comes over to knock on the car window, don't waste words, shoot straight for the head, understood?"

As free America, shootings every day, was having a gun in the car strange? Not strange at all, okay?

Andrea's original flood of anger was directly blocked back by these words, leaving her stunned on the spot, not knowing how to respond.

Too lazy to continue nagging, Ling Feng picked up the tactical gun case placed on the floor mat with one hand, yanked open the latch, grabbed the heavy m200 sniper rifle in his hand, and slung it directly onto his back.

With a bang of the car door closing, all the arguments were isolated inside the vehicle.

The few big men outside who had originally gathered together smoking and cursing turned their heads to look upon hearing the commotion, and were instantly dumbfounded.

This Asian man was not only calm and composed, but he also actually had a heavy sniper rifle hanging behind his back that was over a meter long and had an extremely exaggerated shape! That lengthened heavy barrel exuded a sense of oppression that kept strangers away.

A tattooed-arm man who had just been bragging about how fierce he was at fighting dropped the half-smoked cigarette in his hand directly onto his shoe upper.

He swallowed dryly, without a word turned and pulled open his own car door to crawl inside, and conveniently rolled up all four car windows tightly.

In this environment where everyone was looking out for themselves, no one dared to provoke a fully armed tough guy.

With an unlit cigarette dangling from his mouth, Ling Feng swaggered forward along the gaps in the traffic flow.

Inside the car.

Andrea watched the figure gradually disappear ahead, only then coming back to her senses, and turned to slap her own thigh with a hand.

"Look at his attitude! Too arrogant!" Andrea stared at Amy, who was still dazed, practically going crazy. "Amy, you wake up for me! This man is definitely not a good thing, don't get tricked by a few casual words from him!"

Amy covered half her face, muttering in a soft rebuttal: "How is he not a good thing? I think he's pretty great. Not only did he take us along, but he also knew to arrange a handgun to protect us."

"Is that protection? He carries such a huge murder weapon on his back at all times, he's simply a lunatic!" Andrea rolled her eyes to the heavens, completely out of temper.

Her younger sister's airhead fan-girl attribute was terminally ill; there was no saving her.

Too lazy to continue reasoning, she bent over toward the passenger seat and yanked open the glove box.

Click.

A pitch-black glock 17 lay quietly inside, with two spare magazines filled with bullets neatly stacked beside it.

Andrea gasped, took the handgun out, and weighed it in her hand.

The coolness unique to metal traveled along her fingers to her palm. It was heavy, carrying a fatal sense of weight.

Although America was a country with gun freedom, as an elite lawyer who only knew how to flip through case files, this was the first time she had touched this kind of thing with real guns and live ammunition.

Like a little girl who had gotten a novel toy, she carefully gripped the handle, pointing the muzzle downward, and deep down, because of this man's arrangement, a bit of inexplicable reassurance unexpectedly sprouted.

Shifting the view back to Ling Feng's side.

Walking forward for a stretch along Route 72, the air became increasingly heavy.
