Chapter 1 - Infinite Universe

"Commander we're under siege! A Level 5 Privateer has entered our gravity field, and they're opening fire!" a voice yelled out, it was Lieutenant Davos, my subordinate. "They have Star Cruisers!"

"Shields Up!" I ordered back, tapping on my screen and assembling a fleet to attack. "Fire the gravity beams and lock their movement. I need three Galleon cruisers, two destroyers, and twelve CAL-012 fighter jets out there, now!" giving the command, each of the pilots, aviators, and aviatrix made their way to their positions and cockpits.

"Roger that Commander!"

"Commander, the Privateers are using High-speed cannons, permission to use the Sonic Railguns." the captain of the fighter pilots, Captain Exo, asked through the comms.

"Permission Granted." I curtly replied, the sooner we get this finished, the sooner we can proceed with our goal. I am the Commander of the Jupiter Corp Pioneer Base and a member of the Valerian Federation. And my goal is to take over the Universe and so are others, but I will be first for I have the Stellar System to guide me.

"We'll end this in no time Commander," I just rolled my eyes at the cocky remark of Vice-captain Lupus through the comms.

"I'll take you up on it then, end this in ten minutes and you get a raise," I replied, one day his overconfidence will get him killed. A chorus of snickering and teasing was heard from the other pilots.

I peered out the window from the Command Center where I stood, running and managing the operations within the Base, even as a battle breaks outside. The battle was clearly overpowered by our fleet, "Activate the retractor beams and collect the debris for research afterward."

"Engineer Conrad, I leave the wreckage to your hands." Conrad is the Chief Engineer of Jupiter Corp and a friend of mine.

"Aye Commander," he replied through the comlink.

"There's a transmitter request Commander, from the enemy main starship."

"Put them through, let's see what they have to say." I sat back down on my chair, the transmission was patched up on the monitor screens. It displayed the Captain, a Bularian.

"I am Commander Athena Venus of the Jupiter Corp Pioneer Base, your attack goes against Valerian Federation laws, and we are hereby tasked to provide you with your demise. Any last words Captain?" I said this with a smile, but it was no kindness.

"There will always be more of us Commander, and there is no stopping us. I hope you enjoy your last moments on that chair. Glory to Orion's Reign!" was his last hurrah before he cut off the communication.

"Commander! I'm getting a high reading of nuclear wavelengths! They're going to explode!" my eyes widened and immediately issued an order, "Get out of there, now! Shields at full capacity, everyone Code Red, brace for impact!" everyone strapped themselves in as the last of the fleet retreated towards the base, but not fast enough.

The explosion reverberated throughout the whole base and consumed half of the fleet's ships. It was a trap.

7:00 AM...

The numbers on my alarm clock blinked at me from my bedside table. Once again I am met with a day filled with meaningless interactions with unimportant human beings unable to contain their blathering nonsense of a reality in which I do not want to be apart of. Alas, this is my reality.

I got up from my bed and walked towards my computer, a notice blinked on the screen indicating that an update has been made on my favorite game "Infinite Lagrange". It served as more than a game to me this past few years--it was a respite and escape from the never ending badgering of modern society at its worst.

I could pretend I made sense, that my existence was more than a mere mortal in an endless crowd of strangers in a city where my presence is a mere speck of dust. But inside Infinite Lagrange I'm a commander of a fleet out in space--where earth is a mere planet recognized by numbers. Where life thrives in space ports connecting different galaxies and species that are scattered across the universe.

"Sighhh", I breathed out.

"Welcome Commander, a new update has been made to Infinite Lagrange. We have developed a new system, where you can experience a whole new reality in a blink of an eye. A new immersive experience awaits you. Will you accept this update?"

YES or NO

Please press your choice on the screen.

The pop-up screen blinked at me brightly despite the morning sun shining from my window. As if it were in 4D, its almost as if I could reach for it with my fingers through the screen. I reached for the mouse and clicked YES.

"I suppose the update could finish downloading while I'm at work." I uttered to no one in particular and turned to take a bath, but before I could walk two steps my computer dinged loudly and a robotic voice of a woman spoke.

"Update completed, prepare for hyperspacial transport." I whipped my head back towards the computer and before I could realize what the voice meant, my body seemed to have been "beamed" to another world--out in space, inside the world of Infinite Lagrange.
