"I feel cold, Isiah," she whispered, looking up at him with a deep, suffocating terror in her eyes.
Lexie had never feared Isiah as a formidable, dark mage. Since getting to know him, her fear was never about his magic; she feared him as a human being.
She knew with absolute certainty that she meant nothing to him. She knew he was entirely capable of abandoning her to rot, that he could end her life without a second thought or a blink of his eyes. She knew that every other girl in the world might stand a chance at receiving his warmth or care except for her.
She fought with everything she possessed to hold back her tears, but a ragged sob broke through her lips, choking her words.
