He had spent so much time out because of Abigail, Laurene, and Agnes's reactions to his declaration that he would sell the crown of the Barbarian King to the highest bidder.
Evan had stated only moments before that he was going to give the crown to Agnes. Then he proceeded to declare that he was going to sell the crown.
Therefore, the sale wasn't actually the final destination, and was simply part of the mechanism.
However, that didn't change the fact that Evan had apparently decided to auction off the sovereignty of Tharvoria as part of whatever insane scheme he was constructing in his mind, and that was precisely what had the three of them stunned, and was the reason they spent hours pestering him for answers.
