The man quietly approached, holding an axe. The eldest son saw his father emerging from behind a tree, and he started trembling, evidently scared from previous beatings.
"I won't leave."
The daughter-in-law of the village chief glanced at the man and spoke bitterly and with difficulty.
"Get into the cellar." The man growled softly, like a mad dog, recklessly chopping the tree with the axe. The tree fell, and the man cursed, "You wretch! I won't believe a single word you say!"
The eldest son wanted to say a few words for his mother, but he was frightened upon seeing his father crazily chopping the tree, and didn't dare make a sound.
The younger ones shrank back behind the thick wall, no longer daring to stick their heads out and look.
The village chief's daughter-in-law returned to the cellar on her own and closed the door herself.
