Chapter 422 - Chapter : 313 : Deadly Outbreak

Miniaturization of Nuclear Bombs was a very practical strategy, especially under the premise of having to deal with increasingly powerful beings. However, even such a terrifying weapon had its own weaknesses. The destructive power went without saying. Against a single Supernatural Lifeform, the power of a Miniaturized Nuclear Bomb was already more than enough. The real problem lay in the accuracy of the hit.

With so many being deployed, a huge number of them would inevitably be consumed during combat, causing the overall cost to rise rapidly. More importantly, against enemies possessing extremely high speed and extraordinary reflexes, accurately hitting them with a conventional method was almost impossible. No matter how powerful the weapon was, if it could not hit the target, it was nothing more than a useless threat.

Many have discussed this problem for a long time. With the current technological level of Terra, there was no better method of delivering a Nuclear Bomb than using a Missile. A Missile could carry a Nuclear Bomb over a considerable distance and attack an enemy from afar, but its speed and maneuverability still had limits. Against ordinary enemies, this was not a problem. Against terrifying beings whose speed surpassed the limits of conventional weapons, however, it became an entirely different matter.

As everyone continued thinking about the problem, someone suddenly set their sights on the newly launched Battle Droids. An idea gradually formed in their mind. If the Battle Droid itself could carry a Nuclear Bomb, then instead of firing the bomb toward the enemy, why not make the Battle Droid approach the enemy directly?

Once it reached close range, it could simply detonate itself. At such a distance, no matter how fast the enemy was, there would be almost no possibility of escaping the explosion. And so this proposal was quickly approved by everyone. However, there was still one more problem that had to be considered.

"Such an approach is only effective when it is unexpected, and it works best the first time," said a white-haired Scientist, his expression solemn. "The follow-up attacks will definitely be guarded against."

Another Scientist nodded before continuing, "But the key difference is deterrence. Even if the Demon realizes what we are doing, knowing that such a weapon exists will still give it a headache."

He paused for a moment before revealing, "Besides, our main weapon is not just that bomb."

Over the past few decades, scientists have been working tirelessly to develop a variety of superweapons specifically designed to deal with Level 3 Lifeforms and even more powerful entities.

Some of these projects were still immature and required further research before they could be put into actual combat. Others, however, had already reached the stage where they could be tested on the battlefield. Of course, these weapons were not nearly as convenient or versatile as the Miniature Nuclear Bomb.

The Nuclear Bomb, which had once been regarded as the ultimate taboo weapon, had now become one of the main Conventional Weapons of the Astra Militarum. This was something that would have been unimaginable in the past.

On Earth, nuclear weapons have also been one of the focuses of research by various countries. But because Nuclear Bombs produced radiation and other adverse effects, their use was restricted and prohibited by mutual agreements between nations.

But Terra was different. Here, mankind was facing enemies that could easily surpass the destructive power of conventional armies. Against such fearsome beings, the restrictions that had once been placed upon Nuclear Bombs became far less meaningful.

For this particular project, an enormous amount of manpower, resources, and material wealth had been invested. Everything was done for one purpose: To ensure that mankind would still possess the ability to resist when it encountered increasingly powerful enemies.

When one Demon rushed forward, the self-destruction program of the Battle Droids was immediately activated. Because of Eric's orders, each Demon grabbed a Battle Droid individually.

Seeing this, everyone who witnessed the battlefield felt a sense of despair. The expressions of the others became especially ugly. These Battle Droids were clearly different from ordinary puppets. Perhaps they were still relatively weak at present, but everyone could see that there was bound to be enormous room for development in the future.

If the Demons captured them intact, then with their research, talents, and accumulated knowledge, it might not take long for them to decipher the secrets of the Battle Droids. And if that happened, the most terrifying possibility would emerge. The Demons might eventually produce batches of even more powerful Battle Droids of their own.

Of course, this was actually impossible. The Battle Droids were fundamentally different from ordinary puppets. Even if they were captured, the Demons would have no way to reproduce their technology simply by studying them.

However, his ally did not know this. From their perspective, the Battle Droids were an extremely precious technological accomplishment. If they fell into the hands of the Demons, the consequences were simply too frightening to imagine.

On the Demon side, however, the faces of Eric and the others were filled with smiles. To them, the situation was already completely under control.

But the very next moment, something happened that left them all stunned.

Facing the attacks of the Demons, one Battle Droid after another not only failed to fight back or dodge, but instead took the initiative to move forward. They actually leaned directly toward the approaching Demons.

This strange behavior immediately caused the Demons and everyone watching the battle to become slightly stunned. What were they trying to do? Were they going crazy? The Battle Droids clearly had no chance of winning in a direct confrontation, yet they were actually moving closer to the enemy instead of retreating.

However, the Demons who had come to this battlefield were the elite among the elite. Their combat instincts were exceptionally sharp. After only a brief moment of confusion, someone suddenly realized that something was terribly wrong.

"No!" Next to Eric, the expression of a muscular Demon suddenly changed. His pupils contracted violently, and he immediately shouted, "There's something wrong with these puppets! Eric, order your unit to retreat immediately!"

"Retreat!?" As soon as those words were spoken, the other Demons around him, including Eric, were slightly stunned. Retreat? Why? What could these seemingly ordinary puppets possibly do?

However, every Demon present knew about this particular Demon. He possessed an Innate Talent that gave him an extremely sensitive perception of danger. Whenever he sensed an approaching threat, his instincts would warn him.

More importantly, his ability had proven to be extremely accurate as he had avoided death countless times because of it. Therefore, since he had issued such a warning, it meant that he must have sensed something. Something extremely dangerous.

Unfortunately, this time, the Demons and the Battle Droids were already almost completely entangled with one another. The distance between them was practically zero. Even if Eric had immediately issued an order, it was already far too late. The arrow had already left the bowstring, so there was no possibility of turning back.

But Eric was unwilling to give up just because of a vague warning. "It's just a peculiar puppet. What can it possibly do?"

A trace of disdain flashed through Eric's eyes. He did not believe that a puppet could pose any real threat to him as his gaze remained fixed on the battlefield.

At this moment, one of the Demons had already firmly captured the Battle Droid in front of it. For a Demon, capturing a Battle Droid intact was simply too easy. In terms of body size alone, the Demons were taller than the Battle Droids. They were also far more physically overwhelming.

Under normal circumstances, once a Demon caught one of these puppets, there was almost no possibility of it escaping. Yet something about the scene felt strangely wrong, the Battle Droid seemed to be afraid that the Demon's grip was not firm enough. Instead of struggling to escape, it actually stretched both of its arms outward. It was almost as if it were deliberately embracing the Demon.

For a moment, everyone watching the scene failed to understand what the Battle Droid was trying to accomplish. Why was it doing this? What was the purpose of such a bizarre action?

Then, the next second, a subtle aura suddenly erupted from within the Battle Droid. It was faint, almost imperceptible. Yet the moment that aura appeared, the expressions of everyone who sensed it changed drastically. Something was coming. And this time, it was not a conventional attack.
