Chapter 2 - Sentence

Tsukuyomi's head was ringing, and his body was limp. He could hear guards, mages, and machinery. After a moment of thought, he remembered something horrible. "An audience with the Gods?! What the fuck was my sentence!?" Shouted Tsukuyomi at the top of his lungs.

No matter how much he struggled he couldn't move. He read about this in a book with an iron cover. He was now closed in a set of armor made of meteorite. Soon he would be subjected to divine power and sent in front of the gods.

Tsukuyomi closed his eyes, and almost prayed for forgiveness. Almost. Instead, he took a deep breath and looked up. The armor started heating up, glowing red, then yellow soon turning to blue, and the next moment he was kneeling in front of the gods.

He stood atop a platform, chained by a golden material with a runic inscription on it. "You used nimflerite on me? How strong are the great gods, fearing a teenager," said Tsukuyomi while laughing. He knew well that he angered the gods, but that's why he laughed.

"Tsukuyomi granted upon thee their name and power. We do not have the privilege of being careless around your kind. That and also... never mind, this knowledge is useless to you, vermin.". Said a muscular man, in a dark robe. Under his hood, a chiseled face with small, red eyes and glowing tattoos showed disgust towards the 'vermin'.

A huge, obsidian plate appeared in front of Tsukuyomi. On it, written in blood, was a counter. "That is the number of votes against your case. You may begin defending yourself, Tsukuyomi." Said a woman clad in golden armor. The other gods looked at her, wanting to tell her that calling a convict by their name is... "Outrageous!" Shouted the tattooed man. "Giving a 'vermin' the honor to call them by their name! How dare you..."

He couldn't even finish, the woman's sword was at his neck, and bright, scorching stars behind her eyes. "I am a member of the Primordial Pantheon. I decide for myself. Now kneel and apologize before him." With that, the man kneeled and apologized with spite in his eyes.

Tsukuyomi laughed and stood up. "Nimflerite is useless against me, you know? It locks the mana in one's body and closes their meridians. I have neither. So, next time call Hephaestus. Or was his name Vulcan? It doesn't matter since he forsook you all long ago. He should have a lump of metal strong enough to stop me." Tsukuyomi then broke the chains on his hands and neck. He raised his hand and said "Vote!"

The inscriptions on the obsidian plate quickly showed the number 5342. Tsukuyomi looked around and saw that out of the ten million or so major gods that exist, only "Six thousand are allowed to vote. Which means that I have fucked up. My sentence is?" said Tsukuyomi waiting for an answer.

Every god looked away from him, not wishing to break the news to the fool. The sky split below them and black chains reached toward Tsukuyomi. They wrapped around Tsukuyomi's arms and legs. "Nimflerite chains? Was I really sentenced to Tartarus? Or is it the cold pits of Helheim?" Said Tsukuyomi as he was desperately trying to escape the chains.

"It is futile. You have no power. You are forsaken even by the one who named you. We pity your soul. We are sorry." Said the tattooed man, with a hideous grin on his face. He raised his hands and Tsukuyomi's vision was suddenly turned upside-down.

"Why am I able to see my body like this?" Were the last words Tsukuyomi uttered before his head rolled down the platform he was standing on, his body came tumbling down soon after. As he faded into the darkness he heard his voice.

"It's been so long since we last talked... Or did we just meet? It's dark..." He was stuck in a dark abyss. No light, no food or water, no one to talk to. "What happened?" He whispered again. He couldn't feel anything... except the constant headache.

"Oh right. It was... Late at night, I got informed about an army approaching. I got ready... the day after that... that woman came to visit, together with her sons. After that... after... that..." Tsukuyomi lost himself in the darkness until he heard a voice. The voice of a man...

In front of him stood a tall, handsome man. His eyes were cat-like, his ears were sharp, and horns growing from his head. "Finally broken down? Good. How about a deal?" Said the man in front of Tsukuyomi. "Tall, long blonde hair, perfect body... red, cat-like eyes... You are demon royalty? House of Lust? Or perhaps Pride?" Said Tsukuyomi, struggling to stay awake.

The demon took a step back and bowed down. "A keen eye, for someone blinded by their fate! I offer you knowledge of your... God, you give me something of equal value." Then the demon was set aflame, as he pulled out a dark tome. Khas looked at him, unfazed, and whispered "I want but one answer... Am I right? Ask the tome, give me the answer! My offer is a great show, in four acts!" Tsukuyomi then looked up, slowly, with a cold, ruthless, gaze. "Are we the abyss... or did we gaze into it... Answer me, Fiend!" His voice struck fear into the heart of the demon. "You... You are insane! YES! YES, YOU ARE RIGHT! Tsukuyomi, The God of The Moon didn't sever your soul from your body! He merged them! You are one with your astral body! No mortal can understand your power! No mortal can teach you! Not me, not her, not anyone!" Shouted the demon, while laughing hysterically. The fire started burning him, showing that his bones were blackened and engraved with gemstones and arcane symbols. "I, The Proudest, declare you worthy of being Ascended!"

With those last words, the last embers started to fade after the wildfire, and once again, Tsukuyomi was left alone. "It's been so long since we last talked... Or did we just meet? It's dark... But now... I am truly alone... Me and my thoughts. That pest is gone. The gods as well... It is just me..." said he as he looked where a demon once stood. He stared into the abyss, with lifeless eyes. "So... we are the abyss. Say... how about we come to terms?"

No one answered...

Tsukuyomi looked around himself. "Khas. You are void. You are rationality. I am existence. I am Insanity. We are the void. Together we will bring redemption to this rotten world! You were forsaken here, I have the key to free you! What is it that you want? Why are you ignoring your savior?" Tsukuyomi was desperate. He read the scrolls given to him by that accursed cult. He studied the texts, that the scholars from the capital made so sure to put together the right way. He studied history and made sure to pay the best teachers. He trained his mind and body to make sure he will be ready for everything. And now, he failed. He... "You failed to understand my lessons. Child of The Moon you are not a failure, but an incomplete version of yourself." spoke something from the void around Tsukuyomi, leaving him with a sense of dread in his heart. "I am not helping you, in any way, until you understand that you are going down the right path of the wrong side. I will make sure you understand everything eventually, just make sure you pray that I do it before I decide to kill you."

Tsukuyomi was left speechless. His voice filled him with dread. His voice was deep and monotone. His words were colder than Helheim and his tongue was one that he could understand despite not knowing it. "You are real! I was right! YES! I can finally prove everyone wrong and feast atop the Gods!" Said Tsukuyomi, excited by the possibility. He was breathing heavily and looked tired. A scoff was heard from the darkness. "Choose now. Heaven or hell?" said Khas.

"Hell!" said Tsukuyomi, knowing well that he had chosen the path of infinite pain. "Good. There are six thousand so-called gods around you. Your head is separated from your body and your soul is basically shattered. Good luck!"
