When Sydney Sawyer pushed the door open, the sun was at its most brilliant. It was as if a beam of light followed her in, coating her in a radiant glow.
She had slender brows and bright eyes, dark hair and red lips. The dress she wore cinched at her soft waist, accentuating her straight shoulders and long legs.
Her eyelashes were impossibly long, and she flashed a smile at the Huxley grandmother and granddaughter.
"Old Mrs. Huxley, Ms. Huxley."
She looked innocent enough, but with a bewitching quality.
Sebastian Lockwood had come with her.
But Sydney Sawyer, worried about her mother, had rushed over the moment she got out of the car, leaving him in her dust.
"You must be Sydney Sawyer?" Old Mrs. Huxley sized her up. She'd long heard the girl was a beauty, and seeing her now, she had to admit her looks were striking. "I've heard Ronald mention you. He said you were a good, obedient girl."
"Mr. Sharp is just being too kind."
