The next day, as dawn broke, Sydney Sawyer knew Sebastian Lockwood had stayed at the pet shop all night. She hadn't slept well either, so she got up as soon as it was light out and made some breakfast.
"Up so early?" Ronald Sharp asked as he came downstairs, his face etched with fatigue. He hadn't slept all night either.
The Talbot family wasn't some entity he could destroy with just a word or two.
He had spent the night contacting various parties, negotiating and maneuvering. He expected another tough battle today.
"I want to go check on the cat at the pet shop. After all, it was injured on my watch."
"That Shayla Talbot has some nerve, going after a cat. And of all cats, it had to be Sebastian's. You know how protective he is of his own. I heard she was taken to the police station last night."
Ronald Sharp poured himself a cup of black coffee to stay awake.
