That year, Sydney Sawyer was nineteen and a college freshman.
Like many college students, Sydney Sawyer wanted to find a summer job to earn some spending money. She had originally planned to find work back home, but that was right when Jane Spencer had just met Ronald Sharp.
Sydney knew deep down that if she went back then, Jane Spencer would focus all her attention on her.
Her mother had rarely met someone she had a good feeling about over the years, and Sydney didn't want to go back and be a third wheel. So, she found a summer job in Meridia instead.
She applied to live in the dorms over the summer, and Coco Gordon stayed with her.
Sydney found a tutoring job for 40 days, paid by the hour, helping a fifth-grade girl with her homework.
Coco Gordon, on the other hand, stayed in Meridia for Kevin Chandler. The two had just started dating and wanted to be inseparable, so they got jobs together at a restaurant.
Everything was going smoothly until the day Coco Gordon left.
