In a daze, she recalled events from a few years ago.
When she woke up, the sky outside was just beginning to brighten. It was then she felt a dull ache in her abdomen and remembered her period was nearly half a month late.
She scrambled out of bed, grabbed a sanitary pad, and rushed to the bathroom. Sure enough.
It was fine at first, but about half an hour after she lay back down, a dull ache began to throb in her abdomen.
Her period cramps were usually mild, but perhaps because her cycle was so delayed this time, her abdomen hurt as if an excavator was chugging and churning inside it.
She felt completely groggy. Her phone vibrated—a good morning text from Sebastian Lockwood.
Sydney Sawyer endured the abdominal pain and replied, "Good morning."
But Sebastian Lockwood called her right after. She hesitated before pressing the answer key. "Hello?"
"You're up so early?"
It wasn't even six o'clock. Sebastian had been woken up by his grandfather for morning exercises.
