Chapter 3 - CHAPTER THREE: KALE’S INVITATION

It was a quiet Saturday afternoon, and Amelia—Lia, to her friends —was sprawled across the couch, nursing a cup of instant coffee. Across the room, Beth tapped her fingers impatiently against the kitchen counter.

"Lia!" Amelia glanced up. "You will not believe what Kale said to me!" Amelia raised an eyebrow. "Kale? That annoying footballer who thinks he owns the universe?"

Beth grinned, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "Yes, that Kale. He's inviting us to a get-together tonight. He said it's exclusive, top-tier, VIP everything!"

Amelia's stomach sank. "Beth… you know I don't do flashy. Or loud. Or…" she grimaced. "rich-people-intimidation."

Beth rolled her eyes and walked over, grabbing Amelia by the arm. "Oh, come on! Just for one night. Who knows? It could be fun."

"Fun for you maybe" Amelia pulled her arm free. "For me, it's probably expensive cocktails, gold-plated chairs, and people judging my sneakers."

Beth laughed. "Exactly why I need you by my side. Someone normal to balance out the chaos."

Amelia groaned. She already knew she was going to regret this.

By the time they arrived, the sun was beginning to sink, casting a warm glow over the city. Amelia glanced at her reflection in the taxi window. Her outfit was simple and neat. Nothing flashy. She had considered changing three times before finally giving up. At least she looked presentable. That was enough. When they pulled up outside the restaurant, Amelia froze.

The entrance was impossible to miss. Tall glass doors, polished stone, immaculate valets, and enough luxury to make her suddenly conscious of every cheap thing she owned.

"Oh… wow," her fingers tightened around Beth's arm. Beth glanced at her and laughed.

"Relax,We've got this. Just smile and don't faint."

Amelia gave her a weak smile. Inside, everything seemed designed to remind her that she didn't belong.

The polished floors reflected the enormous chandeliers overhead, while well-dressed guests moved effortlessly through the room as though they had been born into places like this. Wealth. Glamour. Amelia felt like an intruder. Then someone called out.

"well , well, well…. look who finally decided to show up". Amelia turned.

Kale was walking towards them, his tailored blazer fitting perfectly, his hair neatly styled and his confident grin firmly in place.

"Hey, Kale", Beth greeted. He barely glanced at her before urning his attention to Amelia.

She rolled her eyes. "Yeah. I live for expensive get-togethers with strangers" Kale laughed. "still as charming as ever, I see".

"still as annoying as ever, I see"

Beth chuckled nervously.

Kale only seemed more amused. He handed them their invitations and gestured towards the VIP section.

"Come on. You two are sitting with us". Amelia glanced towards the room, the back at Beth. "Are you sure this is a good idea?"

Beth smiled. "Absolutely". Amelia wasn't convinced. As they followed Kale inside, she leaned towards Beth. "Trust me. I'm immune to his charm"

Beth laughed. "we'll see". Amelia shook her head. She wasn't going to change her mind. Not tonight.

She had no idea that she was walking straight into the beginning of something that would change her life forever.
