Chapter 23 - Basat

I opened my eyes from dream I was seeing. It was again a dream from my previous life. I massaged my forehead. Even with my memories slowly returning back to me everything were blurry. I wanted to summarize everything I remembered to make everything slightly more clear. Firstly, I was a human once. Secondly, my progenitor was an evil Goddess. She made a bet-a contract?- with other Gods to not create chaos or use her powers as long as her descendants are good. But when I died she broke that contract and resurrected me in this body, most of my memories gone.

"Well, that didn't cleared anything."

I said to myself. Even though I knew some details most of them were gone. So it was like putting together a puzzle without most of the pieces.

"I'll have to ask her when I clear this dungeon."

While I still had doubts about her she still was my only ally. Except Minerva but she was… I just hoped that they didn't tortured her. I clicked my tongue. Nausea rose inside me.

(Surpassing unnecessary emotions.)

I calmed myself and stepped out to next floor. I already slept and healed myself. Now, I just hoped that next floor would have some useful skills I could absorb. This floor only had Beastification and Weapon Aura. While they were useful I wanted more. If I killed Jasper I could have gotten his skill but I wasn't that cruel. And Armor just turned to ash when I defeated him so no skills from him. I felt air shift as I stepped to next floor and looked around.

"A mountain range?" I looked down and up. I was in middle of a mountain. Cold and fast winds whistled in my ears. If I were any weaker that winds would have made it hard to move. I looked at the undeveloped wings in my back.

"I wish I could use them."

I could just use Demonic Beast's Outrage to turn my wings bigger and stronger but it hurt too much using that skill. Even with my pain resistance being high, pain of my body being remodelled hurt a lot. I looked up sensing danger.

"Looks like I might have to use it."

"Caw! Caw! Caw!"

Eagle like birds with four wings chirped below my head. Their wing span was around 2.5 metres. Light blue in color they didn't seemed too threatening except their size. But of course my opinion quickly changed as they flapped their wings and launched their feathers towards me. I swirled my spear while coating it with aura. Feathers which I deflected fell to ground and dug deep into it.

"Pretty sharp. But isn't it too costly?"

Seeing me deflect their attacks eagles looked at me. While their feathers were sharp and the speed they launched them also great, birds needed their feathers to fly. If they used all of them as weapon how could they fly away? To answer my question one of them started to dive towards me. While it was super fast it was too straightforward. Armor's attacks were not only faster also were tricky to see and react. As it flew to me I swung my spear, spilitting it beak to talon. Other eagles looked at me and cawed to me. I waited them to also dive towards me but they just left. I absorbed the eagle I killed with Devourer.

(Four-winged Eagle is absorbed. Passive skill Clairvoyance can be acquired. Do you want to proceed?)

Birds of prey are famous for their eyes. So I guess it is normal to acquire a skill like this from them.

"Yes."

(Passive skill Clairvoyance is acquired.)

I felt my eyesight getting sharper.

"Wow." I said as I looked around. Everything looked better now. I felt like I increased quality setting in my life. I also was able to see further. It wasn't much but I also got my skills as level 1 with Devourer. Since it was a passive skill I used with my eyes it would probably level up more.

"This can help me find prey."

While it didn't seemed too useful in battle for now it could be usefu…

"Wait." I looked at my spear.

"If I level it can I throw my spear from far away?"

I already threw my spear to my enemies in battle several times. If I leveled up Clairvoyance I could just snipe them without they noticing.

"A new possibility." I said to myself. I also noticed eagles returning. This time with higher numbers. Around ten?

"They are not bird brained at all."

They realized I was dangerous and backed away, collected themselves and came with more force? They weren't just beasts. They seemed to have ability to plan.

"I am having flashbacks to time when orcs surrounded me."

If it wasn't for their honor code to battle one to one I would died back there. I doubted this birds had that kind of honor code so I had better be careful. Also I had no experience fighting mid-air. Even in my full demonic beast form I never tried to fly. I was on ground fighting face to face.

"This doesn't mean I don't have any means to fight flying enemies."

My spear returned to me when I threw it. I could also use arcane magic to fire magic missiles or javelins. Speaking of arcane magic, I created around ten magic circles. This time I would take the initiative! I fired countless magic missiles from magic circles towards eagles.

"It looks like they didn't expected that."

I forgot how strong magic missiles could be since I bosses just blocked or dodged them. Now, hitting eagles they ripped their flesh to pieces. Even the ones that didn't directly get hit seemed to lose coordination. I put my aura into my spear. Fusing with my aura, my spear got longer and bigger. I threw it with full force and killed other eagles. I opened my hand and called my spear back. It returned to me without any problems.

"You are really weird."

I said to it.

"Maybe I should name it?"

As a demon I instinctively knew the power of names. For humans names didn't had that much power but for a demon? It was everything. If I tried to use a another name I would lose my power permanently. But knowing my full name also would give people control over me. So I had to use its short version. From Nocturnis to Nox.

"Now about naming… I am really bad at it."

All names I could think were either too edgy or just straight up bad.

"Basat?"

Basat was name of one of heroes from Book of Dede Korkut. Using a spear he slew an one eyed giant.

(You named your spear Basat.)

As I heard system notification Basat shined lightly. Before I reacting it went out. I inspected it but found no difference. I sighed.

"I am just used to weird things happening."

I wasn't even suprised. I started to move. This place looked huge. If the entire mountain range were this floor finding the boss could take a lot of time.

"Finding it is a problem. Killing it is an even bigger problem."

This boss should be stronger than Armor. The fact that I nearly died while fighting him made me think that I could die for real this time.

"Shouldn't this be obvious?" I asked myself. I fought and killed. So it was natural that death was a constant threat.

"So, shut up and keep moving forward."

I started to walk. Winds were constant ever since I came here. While I was fine for now constant exposure to winds this strong and cold would drain my energy quickly. While moving I also looked around to see if I could find a shelter. To my disappointment everywhere were just rock. No grass, no tress, no caves. Just rock.

"Should I go up or go down?"

Logical thing would be going down. Lower places would be less windy and warmer. But I doubted that boss would be in a better place.

"Hey, system. Did she left some kind of tip to me?"

(No currently available message exists.)

Does this means there are messages she left to me? I just cannot get them yet?

"It would kill her if she made it easier."

I complained. I started to walk upwards. Soon walking turned to climbing. I hold my spear in my mouth. While my claws could dig into rocks my body really wasn't made for climbing. Also climbing with one arm was a bitch. Then again doing anything with one arm was a bitch. Winds also got faster and harsher as I went up. Slow pace, winds upsetting my balance, shitty footing my mood was worse. But when I saw what were coming to me it went bad to worse.

"Fucking goats."

Only reason I could stay on and climb this mountain were because everytime I wanted to move I dug my claws deep into mountain itself. I had to dug deep to not fall. It was hard an deven painful. And this goats stood in nearly vertical ground like it was nothing. They had huge horns.

"How do they get food?"

There weren't any grass here. One of them opened its mouth and bit the ground. It took a mouthful of ground to its mouth and after chewing it it shallowed it. I looked in wonderment as I realized another thing.

"Their horn is made out of rocks?"

It didn't looked like bone. It had the same color as rocks here. Did they evolved to eat rocks? How did that made sense? One of them noticed me.

"Baaaa!"

Opening its mouth it let a loud shriek. All others raised their heads and looked at me.

"Fuck." I said a they started to charge towards me.
