The recent developments toward utilising the energy of the sea have been developed further so they could just as easily be weaponised against Una or any other Devil Fruit user that she faced.
With such developments being made by herself and Dr Vegapunk, it became even more important that she did not gain power through eating a Devil Fruit.
Even if such weapons were not developed and made use of to control and deal with Devil Fruit users sometime soon, it was unknown how things would be developed in the future.
It was quite possible that such weapons would become a main component in dealing with anyone who possessed that kind of power.
It would not even have to matter if they used their power for the wrong side or did much wrong with it.
All that mattered in such a situation would be whether there would be the slightest reason to target them and use that kind of weapon on them.
If a proper system was not built to regulate such technology or manage how it was used, then anything could happen.
A framework could be created to allow for the safe and responsible use of Devil Fruits to create a safer world, or so that those in control would not lose control by making use of them to remove or control those with the power to effect change or disrupt things.
Devil Fruits worked in ways that did not often apply to how the natural laws of the world worked, and those who ate them got their powers the moment they ate them.
Such instant power gains could cause anyone to misuse it, just as they could gain the confidence needed to take action against those who oppressed them.
Those who gained such powers could often be considered cheating, just as they would be considered highly dangerous.
They would gain power that they would not be familiar with right away, so even if they did not intend to do others harm, they could still do it by accident.
There were many reasons why Devil Fruit users could end up being targeted, so their weakness would be what would be used to deal with them.
If that method became available to many more people, then those Devil Fruit users would have very few places to turn to.
Either they would have to hide that they had such power, or they would have to conform by joining some form of registry so that they could be put under supervision, so that they did not misuse those abilities.
If they did not conform to such a thing and did not hide their powers, then it was quite possible that they would end up being hunted down due to the threat they posed.
Having such a big weakness would be fatal for them, so that was all the more reason for Alyssia not to gain one, even if there would be a highly tempting power that could be gained through eating one.
She had to seek out other ways that did not come with such a big weakness that others could not so easily utilise against her.
That was all the more reason why she had to keep working harder to develop something greater that could let her be able to contend against even the most ridiculous of Devil Fruit powers.
Even if she could not achieve that, there were other things that she had been working on, which could end up helping her in combat if there was ever a need for it.
One such development was something that had been most recently worked on using the knowledge she had gained from Egghead.
It was in use after Alyssia had left Empirica behind once she had settled everything.
She had made sure to collect what she could for the sake of gaining more samples and things for her projects.
Her form could be seen in the air as she waited for her ship, the MMA, to return, as it had been planned to sail around the seas and make some trips back and forth to pick her up at set times every couple of days.
As she was floating in the air by kicking her feet, she reached toward her belt that had been placed over her waist.
It looked like a champion's belt that could usually be seen on a champion boxer or wrestler.
It was round and quite big, showing that it likely belonged to a champion of a greater weight class or level of professional achievement.
Some parts seemed to look a little mechanical, while others appeared to be made of other materials that looked more natural.
Alyssia placed her hand over it as she messed around with it a little until she tapped it again.
Her form disappeared from where she had been previously and appeared much further ahead than where she had been.
She turned the middle of the belt as if turning a dial until it had gone half of the way around.
She pressed it again, resulting in her returning to the exact spot where she had disappeared previously.
She kept messing around with it as she waited, allowing her to move back and forth at a set distance.
That had been adjusted to alter the direction of travelling in ways that were not as simple as just going back and forth.
Sometimes she moved left to right, and at other set angles of movement.
Once she was back on her ship, she seemed pleased with herself. "Not bad. The warping technology of Vegapunk was certainly inspiring. I prefer this more simplified version, though, as it requires less complex calculations and buttons to control it."
The method that Vegapunk had used was a lot more complex and unfinished.
It often resulted in many unpredictable factors that involved warping a person who wore such an invention.
If it was not calibrated properly, then it was quite possible that someone could end up warping to somewhere very unexpected.
If they were still in a phased state upon reaching such a warp destination, then it was possible that they could end up remaining stuck in that phased state, as they had part or all of their body stuck in something solid, like a wall.
It had been made to avoid accidents like losing body parts due to such mistakes, but it was possible that someone could get stuck in something and could end up falling further in that phased state.
Unless they were able to get someone to pull them out to regain their solid state again, they could end up falling through the ground in that state or something just as dangerous.
Rather than try to make long and precise journeys through warping, Alyssia had decided that it was far more effective to just travel shorter distances each time and allow for the settings to be easier to use.
Forward would make it go forward, just as any other would allow for another direction, and she would be able to set the distance for travel, so that there would be no need for precise calculations or coordinates or anything else.
