Jack flew through the sky at incredible speed, his expression dark and cold. Pepper had been captured by Aldrich Killian—just as in the events of Iron Man 3. White Queen's coordinates guided him directly toward the massive cargo ship drifting across the ocean.
"So," Jack muttered, his eyes filled with killing intent, "someone actually dared to kidnap my woman. Killian... I'll make you understand what it truly means to wish you were dead."
The wind howled past him as he accelerated.
According to the coordinates White Queen had provided, the cargo ship soon appeared on the endless blue sea.
"So it's here?"
Jack hovered high above the vessel, looking down at the enormous steamship below. A faint, evil smile slowly spread across his face.
"I wonder if Stark will make it here."
He recalled the Battle of New York.
"If Tony died during the invasion... that would honestly be a little disappointing."
Jack slowly descended toward the ship.
"Killian!" his voice thundered across the ocean. "Your father has arrived! Get out here!"
The roar echoed across the entire vessel like rolling thunder.
Every soldier and scientist aboard froze.
Killian's armed subordinates rushed onto the steel deck, staring at the figure descending from the sky.
"J-Jack..."
"It's Humankind's Public Enemy Jack!"
"That's Jack? The man rumored to be capable of destroying an entire country by himself? Why is he here?"
Fear spread through the crowd almost instantly. Many instinctively tightened their grip on their rifles, but no one dared to pull the trigger.
Inside the iron prison, Pepper heard the familiar voice.
Her eyes instantly brightened.
"Jack..."
"It's Jack's voice... He came."
For a brief moment, the fear and loneliness in her heart disappeared.
Outside, Aldrich Killian calmly walked onto the steel platform with a relaxed smile on his face.
"Mr. Jack," Killian greeted politely, "it's a pleasure to finally meet you. I was beginning to wonder if you wouldn't come after all."
Jack glanced at him indifferently.
"Don't act like we're close."
His gaze turned icy.
"Where's Pepper?"
Killian chuckled.
"As expected of the famous Jack. Straight to the point."
Jack smiled coldly.
"I'll give you three seconds."
"Release Pepper, and I'll spare your life."
"Or... I'll kill you first and take her away afterward."
Killian's smile slowly faded.
"Mr. Jack, aren't you being a little disrespectful? Pepper's life is in my hands. I can kill her whenever I want."
"You're welcome to try."
Jack's calm answer carried absolute confidence.
Killian narrowed his eyes before clapping his hands lightly.
"Bring Miss Pepper out."
The heavy iron door opened.
Pepper was escorted outside by two Extremis soldiers who tightly restrained her arms.
"Let go of me!"
"Release me!"
She struggled fiercely, but the two men held her firmly.
The moment Jack saw her, the coldness in his eyes softened slightly.
"Pepper."
Hearing him call her name, Pepper instinctively looked up.
"Jack!"
The word escaped her mouth before she could stop herself.
Realizing her reaction, she immediately forced herself to calm down, turned her head away, and spoke coldly.
"Why did you come?"
Jack smiled faintly.
"To take you home."
"Take me home?"
Pepper bit her lip.
"What am I to you? Why would someone like you come save me? Go spend time with your other beautiful women."
Her voice sounded calm, but the jealousy hidden underneath was impossible to conceal.
Jack looked directly into her eyes.
"You're my woman."
"As long as I'm alive, no one is allowed to hurt even a single hair on your head."
"I am not!"
Pepper immediately shouted back, her cheeks slightly red.
Killian watched the exchange with an amused smile.
"What a touching romance."
"It seems Mr. Jack and Miss Pepper share quite an interesting history."
Jack shot him an irritated glance.
"Can you stop interrupting?"
Killian laughed.
"I don't mind."
"What I wanted to say was that when Pepper heard your voice, she looked genuinely excited."
"No!"
Pepper denied it immediately.
Killian shrugged.
"Well, regardless of whether she admits it or not, there's clearly some misunderstanding between the two of you."
Jack slowly shifted his gaze toward Killian.
"Killian."
"Yes?"
Killian smiled politely.
"My name is Aldrich Killian. Having someone as famous as you remember my name is quite an honor."
Jack's lips curved upward.
"I've already prepared a thousand different ways for you to die."
"Which one would you like?"
The atmosphere instantly froze.
Several soldiers subconsciously raised their rifles toward Jack.
Killian immediately waved his hand.
"What are you doing?"
"Do you know who this is?"
"This is Mr. Jack—the idol of terrorists across the world."
"Put your guns down."
Before anyone could react, one of the Extremis soldiers suddenly roared and leaped from the steel platform toward Jack.
"Let me fight Humankind's Public Enemy!"
"Be careful!"
Pepper couldn't help shouting.
The man's entire right arm instantly glowed crimson.
Steam poured from his skin as terrifying heat radiated outward.
It looked less like flesh and more like a piece of burning steel fresh from a furnace.
Jack smiled with interest.
"So this is the power granted by Extremis."
"Let's see what it can really do."
"Hah!"
The glowing fist shot toward Jack's chest.
Jack casually raised his right hand.
Clang.
He caught the burning fist effortlessly.
The terrifying heat capable of melting steel failed to make him even frown.
"Not bad."
"The temperature is impressive."
"But... did you really think this was enough?"
His left hand flashed forward.
Slash!
A sharp chop landed directly on the man's upper arm.
"AHHH!"
Blood mixed with molten flesh splashed through the air as the entire arm was cleanly severed.
The soldier staggered backward, screaming in agony.
His entire body rapidly turned scarlet.
Cracks spread across his skin as flames erupted from within, making him resemble a human volcano.
Then something astonishing happened.
The severed shoulder began writhing violently.
Lava-like tissue rapidly expanded before reshaping itself.
Within seconds...
A brand-new arm had regenerated.
Jack raised an eyebrow.
"So it can regenerate."
"Interesting."
"But your body temperature has already exceeded its limit."
"You're about to explode."
"AHHHH!"
The Extremis soldier screamed as flames burst from every pore of his body.
His skin glowed brighter and brighter until he resembled a walking piece of burning coal.
Panting heavily, he charged toward Jack once more.
"If I'm dying..."
"Then you're dying with me!"
Jack remained completely unmoved.
"If you're the only one dying... that's perfectly acceptable."
Boom!
The Extremis soldier exploded violently.
An enormous fireball instantly engulfed the surrounding steel platform.
The terrifying blast ripped apart nearby support beams.
Countless pieces of burning metal flew into the sky before crashing into the sea below.
"Jack!"
Pepper's eyes widened in horror.
Killian slowly shook his head while covering his eyes with one hand.
"What a pity."
"So this is how Humankind's Public Enemy Jack dies?"
"I have to admit... that's rather disappointing."
Just then—
"How could I disappoint you?"
A familiar voice echoed through the flames.
Everyone froze.
As the blazing fire slowly dispersed, Jack remained floating exactly where he had been standing.
Apart from a few burnt pieces of clothing fluttering in the wind...
There wasn't a single scratch on his body.
