Chapter 1 - The trial

Lycans and humans never went side by side. The beasts who once ruled the world made the forest their home only to maintain peace in the world. Wars between human and lycans destroyed many lives from both sides. But that was before, hundreds of years before. Now in this modern world they somehow adapted to live side by side , after becoming a myth in the feeble human minds.

Deep inside the forest of Arizon, the North Lycans had their base. A total 25000 beasts made their homes to live their life peacefully. But as we all know peace never stay still.

" Alpha, it is time."

Alex felt his presence way before. Donovan, his beta was a man of virtue. But that didn't stop him wishing Donovan to be the one in his place. Alex Zargos had become Alpha two years back and his whole life changed just like that. Being the son of the previous Alpha Jonathan , his destiny to become Alpha has been sealed since birth. Yet he never wanted it, never wanted this position, never wanted the blood of so many on his hands.

Still he has a duty to perform.

He stood up from his chair and walked towards Donovan. Even his gait was that of a fiery predator, yet Donovan stood his ground. Alex's aura was always intimidating. His pitch black hair coincided with that of his cruel heart deep inside. His sharp features enunciated the dark aura emanating from his body. Donovan took a shaky gulp.

" Where's Pier?" Alex asked. His husky voice sent shivers through Donovan's spine.

But his eyes bulged slightly in exclamation in the next moment. Surely Alpha really wasn't thinking of using that.

The two inches always got him. Alex peered down on Donovan which made him lower down his own head.

" In the laboratory..."

Before Donovan could stop Alex, he made his way towards the laboratory, to see his old friend Pier.

Inside the closed tiny room, Pier put all his concentration on mixing the red liquid with blue one in test tube. Bangs of his white platinum hair fell on his eyes making him a minute away from blowing the whole complex.

" Whoa that was dangerous ." Pier mumbled to himself.

" Are you done?"

The sudden interruption was truly unwelcomed. As soon as Pier heard the voice he knew it was his Alpha.

He glared at Alex. He was probably the only one who had guts to glare at the Alpha.

" What are you doing here?" He asked.

" Are you done with the medicine?"

Donovan also entered the room following Alex and soon regretted it. The tension inside the four walls was too much for a beta like him.

Pier put the test tube with a thump. For a year he had scooped himself in this hellhole to come up with a solution. A solution to defy their true nature.

" Do you think it's that easy?" Pier couldn't help but shout.

" We don't have much time Pier. We've already lost a many."

" Do you think I don't know that? " Pier shouted again, his brown eyes turned golden for a second. But Alex's wolf knew how to tame his friend. His low growl was enough to snap Pier back to normal.

He cowered down and heaved a sigh.

" I'm sorry.. I just need a little time. It's a sensitive issue , I've to be careful."

Alex could understand Pier's situation. Both were helpless in their own circumstances.

" Linda's trial is today."

"..."

" I couldn't hold it back longer "

" When?"

" After five minutes "

" You really couldn't postpone it?"

" ...."

Pier knew Alex had his own duty. The Alpha would always do what was good for the welfare of the Lycans. May be it was to kill their own kind.

" You don't have to come Pier."

" No I want to... " Pier had to go.

Even though Pier didn't want to attend the trial. He had to say his last goodbye to the one he loved for a pretty long time. If only he could be brave enough to convey his feelings towards her. Maybe , maybe he didn't have to see Linda this way - chained down in her wolf form waiting for the trial.

Yes the outcome could have been quite different. They all knew what happens to a rogue wolf.

Execution.

The trial had begun.

On one side a wolf was caged, growling in a low voice. There's no trace of Linda in it. And on the other side was the victim Simon , whose life had been threatened by Linda's wolf.

In the midst of the spectators Linda's mom was crying. Alex knew Mrs. Drrex. They all knew her. After all she was their teacher in their childhood. Linda Drrex had always been close to Alex and Pier.

The victim pleaded that he had been wronged. He would have been dead if not the wolf was tranquilized in time. He wanted justice.

But the other side remained silent. Even for a rouge wolf she's quite settled down in the cage.

" Is it true Simon that Linda is your mate?"

" She was..."

" Was? Is it perhaps she's not someone of your choice?"

Alex had made Donovan thoroughly investigate the matter. Linda was indeed Simon's mate but he had rejected her. Because of the severed connection Linda had lost herself and her wolf had gone berserk. It was not something uncommon in the Lycan world.

" I love someone else. I couldn't take Linda as my mate."

Alex hated the fact that such a bullshit could end someone's sweet life. The incompetency to fulfill the Wolf's demand to mate with the person he's destined with. It made no sense. But that's their nature. A trait that had taken so many lives.

Recently Linda had known that Simon was her mate. Simon being in love with another Lycan rejected Linda. Linda's wolf took full control of her when she saw Simon together with his girlfriend.

A bizarre incident which shouldn't have happened. Not all the rejected ones went berserk in the North. But some were weak. Weaker than their respective wolves.

" After thinking a lot about this case, I came to the decision that Linda will be taken in the Fykn Confinement unit and will be made the subject of operation Rouge with the objective to bring the rouge wolves to their senses. I hope all my dear Lycans would support me in this matter."

An uproar started among the Lycans present in the trial. This was the first time they had heard something like this. Simon felt his whole blood drain in fear.

"What kind of judgment is this? She will come back to kill me.." he roared .

" It was not Linda's fault that her wolf had lost itself. So this time there will be no execution. " Alex stated as a matter of fact.

Pier peered at Alex. A small smile appeared on his face making him look much younger. He knew Alex would be a wonderful Alpha.

" But Alpha it is the rule to execute the rouge ones. We cannot defy that."

A new voice chimed in. Jonathan Frolick pleaded him. He was one of the elders, the late Alpha's subordinate. A cunning fox.

" Who is the Alpha here Mr. Frolick? Who made the rules?" Alex mused focusing all his attention to the mere old fox in the crowd.

Frolick at least had the common sense to keep his mouth shut.

" I, Alexander Zargos, the Alpha of the North Clan hereby commence the rule no rouge wolves would be executed. They would be treated well so that we could get their lost souls back. Case dismissed."

Everyone was in the state of confusion but they had enough trust in their Alpha that they knew to make no protest against it.

Alex's eyes found Linda's mother and nodded at her. She was smiling through her tears. Her baby girl had at least a chance. She didn't know when she would get her child back in her arms. But she was thankful for this one opportunity. All because of their new Alpha.

The morning trial was always tiresome. Everything had been wrapped up beautifully. Alex knew there would be complications in this experiment. Now the opposition had kept quiet but it won't be long.

Now Alex could rest for a bit in his office. As he was thinking that Xander barged into his office. He never acknowledged the art of knocking the door. Alex knew his half-brother had been like that since birth.

But seeing how tense Xander was , Alex stopped whatever he was going to say next.

" There's a problem. Some Southern ones have been spotted in the vicinity." Xander stated in a breathe.

Alex banged his head on the desk a few times. Well this was much more a problem than Linda's.
