"You're really letting him handle this alone?"
Inside the car, Carl watched Lansi confront the three patrol officers in the distance and could not help asking Wen Yu,
"Are you sure he can manage?"
Wen Yu glanced at Carl calmly.
"Some things are better understood firsthand."
The slums and the wealthy district were normally isolated from each other. However, the wealthy district occasionally allowed a small number of innocent people from the slums to come in and work.
After all, manpower was valuable no matter the era.
The headquarters of several major companies were located within the wealthy district. Under the directives of the Survivor Alliance, these companies were required to provide employment opportunities to residents of the slums in order to maintain the fragile balance of the entire Alliance.
For the people living in the slums, such opportunities were practically lifelines, and everyone clung to them desperately.
To someone from the slums, being stripped of the right to work in the wealthy district was no different from a death sentence.
Naturally, the restrictions were extremely strict. Once a slum resident committed a crime inside the wealthy district, they would be permanently blacklisted and never allowed to work there again.
"That woman is Dr. Li Si's nanny," Wen Yu said after taking a glance outside.
"Someone recently reported that the Echo Organization's repair spray and medical equipment were being consumed unusually quickly."
Li Si was a plastic surgeon working within the community. As part of the Echo Organization, he handled cosmetic surgery and daily restorative procedures for wealthy residents.
Because resources throughout the Alliance were limited, every organization had a fixed supply of repair spray and medical equipment. Recently, however, some people had noticed that the Echo Organization's supplies were being depleted far too quickly.
For now, though, Wen Yu did not continue explaining.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Lansi was still arguing with the patrol officers.
"She already said it was given to her by her employer. If you don't believe her, why not contact the employer directly and ask?"
"What's there to ask?"
The patrol captain stepped forward coldly.
"People from the slums are all liars and thieves. They come here, see something valuable, and can't resist stealing it. One look at her and I can tell she's trouble."
The middle-aged woman clutched the wound on her head and shook her head frantically.
"That's not true! Today is my youngest son's birthday. Dr. Li gave this to our family as a gift!"
"She already said it was from Dr. Li. Then contact Dr. Li and confirm it."
Lansi argued back angrily. As he spoke, he pulled off his helmet, trying to reason with them face-to-face.
The moment the three patrol officers saw Lansi's uncovered face, surprise flashed through their eyes.
Then the patrol captain's expression suddenly turned strange and amused.
"So pretty."
Lansi tilted his head in confusion.
"What unit is a little recruit like you from? Why don't you come work under me instead?"
As he spoke, the captain reached out, clearly intending to touch Lansi's face.
Lansi reacted instantly.
Without hesitation, he grabbed the captain's wrist and twisted it sharply.
Everything happened so naturally that even Lansi himself barely thought about it.
The instincts and reflexes of a mermaid made him automatically use the quickest and most efficient counterattack posture.
A loud crack echoed through the street.
The captain's wrist had been dislocated on the spot.
The entire scene froze for three full seconds.
The other two patrol officers stared at Lansi in shock. The delicate young man standing before them looked as refined as a porcelain doll, yet his strength was terrifyingly brutal.
"Aaaagh—!"
The patrol captain immediately dropped the bacon onto the ground and clutched his wrist while screaming in agony.
"My hand! My hand!"
The remaining two patrol officers panicked as well.
The patrol unit was considered an easy and desirable job. They did not have to fight on the battlefield and could abuse their authority freely. Most people assigned there were relatives of influential families who got in through connections.
None of them had ever encountered a situation like this before.
One of the patrol officers instinctively reached for his gun, but the captain was still shrieking like a pig being slaughtered.
"Sorry, sorry, sorry!"
Lansi hurriedly apologized, clearly flustered himself. He had not expected things to turn out this way at all.
He quickly stepped forward to support the captain.
"I'll fix it for you!"
Before the patrol captain could react, Lansi grabbed the man's wrist again.
Crack.
Another sharp sound rang out as Lansi forcefully reset the dislocated joint.
An even more piercing wave of pain instantly hit the captain.
His face twisted violently from the agony.
"Huh? It still looks crooked?"
Lansi lifted the captain's arm and turned seriously toward the other two patrol officers.
"Does it look crooked to you?"
The remaining two soldiers looked at each other nervously.
After several seconds, one of them nodded hesitantly.
It really did look crooked.
"Um… if it's still crooked, then I'll have to reset it again."
Lansi patted the captain on the shoulder reassuringly. Then, under the captain's horrified gaze, he suddenly looked up and pointed at the sky.
"Look, a UFO!"
The captain instinctively raised his head.
At that exact moment, Lansi took advantage of his distraction.
Click.
Lansi yanked the captain's arm sharply downward.
"AAAAAHHHHH—!"
Another pig-slaughtering scream echoed through the street.
"Sorry, sorry, sorry!"
Lansi apologized frantically with complete sincerity written across his face. He held the captain down to stop him from struggling and said earnestly,
"This time I'll definitely fix it properly."
After speaking, Lansi straightened the captain, who was bent over in pain, and carefully examined the crooked wrist with a serious expression.
"Huh… why does it still look crooked? Just bear with it a little longer."
Click.
"Stop—stop—!"
The captain shoved Lansi away while clutching his wrist. Sweat poured down his forehead from the pain.
"Don't touch me anymore! Get me a doctor!"
Damn it.
The thing standing opposite him was definitely not an angel.
It was a demon.
"I'm sorry, I'm really, really sorry."
Lansi immediately bowed another ninety degrees.
"I truly didn't mean it."
Then, as if suddenly remembering something, he turned toward the middle-aged woman lying nearby.
"Oh, right. Didn't you say your employer is a doctor? Can he handle setting bones?"
The middle-aged woman seemed to snap back to reality from a dream.
She stared blankly at Lansi, then at the patrol captain crying while clutching his wrist, before answering weakly,
"He… probably can."
After a pause, she added,
"I can call him."
Lansi turned back to the captain apologetically before walking over to the other two patrol officers.
"Can I borrow your phone?"
The two patrol officers had already been completely overwhelmed by this bizarre chain of events. Hearing Lansi politely ask for the phone, they subconsciously glanced at their captain, who was still sobbing in pain, before numbly handing it over.
Lansi thanked them politely and passed the phone to the middle-aged woman.
From beginning to end, there was technically nothing wrong with anything Lansi had done.
In fact, by this point, everyone present had started wondering whose fault this entire situation actually was.
The middle-aged woman made the call in a daze.
Ten minutes later, a car arrived and stopped nearby. A man dressed in a white medical uniform stepped out.
At first, he looked confused by the strange scene of several people sitting on the ground. Then he spotted the middle-aged woman among them.
He hurried over.
Seeing the blood on her head, anger immediately appeared on his face.
"What happened?"
The middle-aged woman timidly glanced to the side.
Her gaze landed on the patrol captain sitting nearby.
The patrol captain, still in agony, immediately shouted at the man,
"You're Dr. Li Si? Hurry up and fix my hand!"
"You—!"
The man's expression darkened instantly. He clearly could not stand the captain's arrogant attitude.
"My bleeding has already stopped, Mr. Li. Please help the captain first."
The middle-aged woman nervously tugged at the corner of his clothes, afraid he might lose control and start fighting with the patrol captain.
"I'm fine," she said softly.
Li Si gritted his teeth but eventually walked over and reset the captain's wrist.
This time, the captain's hand was finally properly aligned.
Afterward, Li Si asked coldly,
"What exactly happened here?"
"They accused me of stealing bacon, Mr. Li," the middle-aged woman explained.
Then she pointed toward Lansi, who was standing quietly nearby.
"If it weren't for this…"
Lansi smiled innocently from the side, revealing two small canine teeth.
"I'm just an ordinary orderly soldier."
The middle-aged woman paused briefly before continuing softly,
"If it weren't for this young orderly, I might never have seen you again, Mr. Li."
Hearing that, Li Si took a deep breath before finally turning toward the patrol officers through gritted teeth.
"That bacon was a gift for the nanny who has taken care of my family for ten years. Is there a problem with that?"
At this point, the three patrol officers had completely lost their arrogance.
All they could do was lower their heads and apologize.
"Sorry."
However, the captain remained just as arrogant as before. Even after apologizing, he still could not resist adding,
"Still, Mr. Li, people from the slums are extremely cunning. A piece of bacon this valuable could easily be stolen. You should be careful not to get deceived."
"Get out!"
Li Si exploded in fury.
"Get the hell out of here!"
The three patrol officers froze for a moment at Li Si's outburst before hurriedly fleeing in embarrassment.
After they left, Li Si gradually calmed down.
He bent over and picked up the piece of bacon that had rolled across the ground several times. Holding it in his hand, he looked deeply troubled.
With Lansi's help, the middle-aged woman gathered the basket and the cloth that had originally wrapped the bacon. Then she walked over to Li Si and smiled gently.
"It's alright. I'm already used to this."
"But, Lou ma, this isn't something you should have to endure."
Li Si's expression darkened with guilt.
A moment later, however, his gaze shifted toward Lansi.
After finally seeing Lansi's face clearly, Li Si's eyes brightened slightly.
"Hello. In any case, thank you for helping Lou ma. What's your name?"
Lansi originally did not want to answer.
But Li Si immediately added,
"I'm the attending physician of the Echo Organization. If you tell me your name, I can give you a set of our newest hydrating skincare products."
Lansi hesitated.
"They're expensive, but the quality is excellent," Li Si continued temptingly.
"My name is Lansi."
This time, Lansi answered instantly without any hesitation.
"Where do I get the skincare products?"
The moment the words left his mouth, regret immediately flooded him.
Oh no.
Why did he become impulsive again the moment someone mentioned gifts?
Lansi covered his face in embarrassment before quickly pointing toward Lou ma.
"Don't mind me. You should treat the wound on her head first."
"Alright."
Li Si walked back to his car and retrieved a small spray bottle.
Standing in front of Lou ma, he sprayed the wound on her forehead several times.
To Lansi's surprise, the injury visibly disappeared right before his eyes.
After treating Lou ma, Li Si turned around and could not help smiling when he noticed Lansi staring at him without blinking.
Then he handed the small spray device to Lansi.
"You're a reserve soldier, right? In that case, I think you'll need this in the future."
"What is it?"
Lansi accepted the spray curiously.
"This is a healing agent. It contains nanobots. As long as you spray it onto a wound, the nanobots will automatically repair the damaged tissue."
Li Si smiled slightly.
"It's my latest research project. If you get injured in the future while serving as a soldier, you can use it."
Lansi nodded seriously.
Just then, another car arrived.
The vehicle stopped abruptly beside Li Si, and a man dressed in a black suit stepped out. His expression looked anxious.
"Li Si? What happened? Why are you and Lou ma here?"
Li Si immediately walked toward him affectionately.
"Lou ma was stopped by the patrol officers."
At the same time, he introduced Lansi.
"Michael, this is Lansi. He's the gentleman who helped Lou ma."
The man called Michael wore a tailored black suit. After Li Si finished speaking, Michael's attention shifted from Li Si to Lansi.
Interestingly, after staring at Lansi for several seconds, the warmth in Michael's gaze gradually changed into something sharper—something subtly hostile.
He examined Lansi with obvious scrutiny.
Lansi blinked innocently.
He noticed that Michael was extremely handsome, with striking green eyes.
Combined with the elegant suit, he looked almost like a movie star.
"My dear, I'm in a bit of a hurry, so let me take Lou ma home first."
Li Si kissed Michael openly in front of everyone.
"Thank Mr. Lansi for me."
Michael snapped out of his thoughts. Lowering his head, he returned Li Si's kiss naturally.
"Alright, dear. Be careful on the way."
Meanwhile, Lou ma stood nearby looking completely calm, as though she had long since grown accustomed to scenes like this.
The interaction between the two men immediately sparked Lansi's curiosity.
They called each other "dear"…
Were they a couple?
Li Si turned around and winked playfully at Lansi before helping Lou ma into the car.
Of course, before leaving, he kept his promise. He retrieved a set of skincare products from the car and handed them to Lansi.
Lansi: "…"
He actually gave them to him.
Throughout the entire exchange, Michael remained silent, quietly observing the interaction between Li Si and Lansi. He kept a gentle smile on his face the whole time.
Although Michael had subtly revealed hostility toward Lansi earlier, he was now perfectly acting the role of a kind and considerate partner in front of Li Si. His beautiful green eyes followed Li Si attentively, his gaze full of apparent affection.
Until Li Si left.
That man called Michael was really strange.
Lansi did not know whether it was simply his intuition, but he kept feeling that Michael was pretending.
Sure enough, the moment Li Si's car drove away, Michael's expression changed instantly.
The gentle smile disappeared.
He walked directly toward Lansi and examined him from head to toe with sharp eyes.
The aura around him transformed completely in that moment.
If Michael had seemed like a harmless golden retriever while Li Si was present—a docile, affectionate dog that would obediently endure anything from its owner—
Then after Li Si left, that same golden retriever immediately turned into a fierce hunting hound.
"Your name is Lansi?"
Michael's green eyes scrutinized him carefully.
"What's your identity code?"
Lansi blinked, confused by the sudden question.
"Huh?"
"Tell me. What's your code?"
Michael pressed relentlessly.
"I don't remember."
Lansi thought for a moment before replying honestly,
"I think the last two digits were… twenty-five?"
The instant Michael heard that, his expression changed dramatically.
"That's impossible!"
"What's impossible?"
An indifferent voice suddenly interrupted from nearby.
The two of them turned at the same time.
Wen Yu had walked over.
Michael's eyes widened slightly.
Meanwhile, Lansi smiled awkwardly at Wen Yu before proudly showing him the "trophies" in his arms.
"Michael? From Life Technologies?"
Wen Yu shot Lansi a somewhat helpless glance before stepping beside him and asking coldly,
"Why are you asking for my orderly's identity code?"
Michael's face immediately paled.
As a member of the Survivor Alliance, he naturally recognized Wen Yu.
The moment he realized who Lansi belonged to, Michael's expression became extremely complicated. He stared at Lansi with those green eyes, and beneath the tension there was even a trace of something resembling nostalgia.
In the end, Michael quickly returned to his previous polite demeanor.
"It's nothing."
He gave Lansi a perfectly sincere smile.
"In any case, thank you for today."
After saying that, Michael hurried into his car and left, almost as though he were escaping from something.
Lansi watched the departing vehicle quietly.
Then he suddenly handed the skincare products in his arms to Wen Yu.
"For you."
Wen Yu fell silent for a moment. Subconsciously, he accepted the products before asking,
"Why are you giving them to me?"
"They said this set is very expensive."
Lansi answered seriously.
"I'm repaying my debt."
Wen Yu: "…"
