Sebastian stood at the edge of the main assembly bay as the final HAS-V-A1 6x6 Heavy Assault variant rolled slowly toward the loading ramp. Its 150mm electromagnetic artillery cannon was still covered in protective sheeting, and the Mana Induction Power Core he had spent the last five weeks perfecting sat silent and dark beneath the armored hood. He was still getting used to how quietly Discovery's technology operated — no hum, no glow, just clean, efficient power that responded without fanfare. He allowed himself one quiet moment of reflection.

Commander Raj Patel stood at the head of the long table, arms crossed, his expression carved from stone. Beside him, Amir leaned over a thick stack of production schedules, grease still staining his fingers. "We have five weeks," Patel said bluntly. "Not a day more. Every vehicle we can field before the Imperia reinforces their lines matters." He turned to Sebastian. "You are responsible for the Mana Induction Power Core. We need it to be stable, efficient, and fast to manufacture. Unmodified Space Force weapons only — Vulcan cannons on the 4x4s, heavy cannons and missile pods on the 6x6s, .50 caliber machine guns for close defense, and a new 150mm artillery variant for the Heavy Assault model. Can you deliver that in five weeks?"
Sebastian nodded once. "I can," Amir spoke up, tapping the production schedule with a grease-stained finger. "What about the armor? The original HAS-V plating is too heavy and too slow to produce at the rate we need." Sebastian hesitated, then spoke carefully. "If we layer the outer plating with a thinner Arcanium-tungsten composite and add a Mana-resistant ceramic matrix beneath it, we can reduce weight by nearly twenty percent while maintaining protection. It would be faster to produce and easier to repair in the field."
Patel looked to the holo-projector. "Ali, what's the weight penalty on the original environmental systems?" A.L.I.'s voice came crisp and calm. "The vacuum-rated life support, deep-space NBC filtration, and thermal regulation systems account for approximately 1,850 kilograms per vehicle. Removing them entirely would reduce mass significantly while maintaining positive-pressure NBC suitable for planetary operations."
Sebastian nodded. "We'll add a simple rune matrix just inside the intakes for Mana-taint filtration. It's lightweight, easy to etch, and will neutralize ambient Mana contaminants without the heavy deep-space hardware." Amir leaned in, studying the proposal. "Perfect. Keeps the crew safe and the line moving fast." Patel gave a single, decisive nod. "Approved. Sebastian handles the cores. Amir, you support the armor redesign. Everything else stays as planned." He clapped his hands once, the sound sharp in the quiet room. "Let's get to work."
Design sketches spread across the long table as Sebastian and Amir bent over the boards, Patel pacing behind them. "We don't have time for elegant. We need functional." Amir snorted without looking up. "Functional, but it still needs to not fall apart the first time it hits a pothole the size of a dwarf. Give the man room to work, Commander."
The prototype 4x4 sat in the testing bay, its new Mana-Resistant Armor Cladding gleaming under the lights. Sebastian stood ten paces away, hand raised. A sharp, focused fire bolt lanced forward and struck the plating with a loud, resonant *thud*. "Clean hit," Amir called from the monitoring station. "No penetration. No spalling. The matrix is doing its job." Patel's voice came over the comms from the observation deck. "How long until the first production unit is ready to drive?"
"Three days if the robotic welders behave," Amir replied. "Four if they don't."
"Make them behave," Patel said dryly.
The robotic welding arms moved with growing precision as technicians trained them on the new modular chassis. Sparks flew in rhythmic bursts as the first 4x4 frame took shape. On the catwalk above, Sebastian and Amir watched the first complete vehicle roll off the line for drivetrain testing, the Mana Induction Power Core coming online in perfect silence as the hybrid system found its rhythm.
"Listen to that," Sebastian said with quiet satisfaction. "She sings better than the old Ironclad motors."
"She should," Amir replied. "I spent three weeks tweaking her not to scream every time the Mana flow shifted." Patel joined them, arms still crossed. "How many can we have ready in the next ten days?"
"Eleven," Amir said. "Five 4x4s, four 6x6 troop carriers, one command variant, and one Heavy Assault with the 150mm cannon. Assuming nothing explodes." Patel allowed himself a rare, thin smile. "Then don't let anything explode."

The forge was waiting. And so was the war.
