Chapter 176 - Chapter 141: Stars, Stories, and Dance

**Kitsune Vulpine's Log, Supplemental**

**Discovery recording**

**37 days after Rothgard's Fall**

The world turns beneath the stars. Hearts turn toward the unknown.

Kitsune Vulpine sat alone on the long obsidian bench of the observation deck, the ship's night cycle casting the vast chamber in a gentle twilight glow. Below the transparent dome, Terra rotated in majestic silence, its blue-and-white sphere turning like a living jewel suspended in the void. Swirling clouds caught the light of a distant sun, painting continents in soft gold and deep shadow. The sight stole her breath every time she looked. Hours earlier, the delegations had ratified a full alliance with Discovery—mutual defense, shared intelligence, open trade, and a solemn vow to end the Draco Imperia's tyranny. The weight of that pact still hummed in her blood.

She let her nine tails drape across the cool bench, eyes tracing the slow curve of the world. The strikes had been flawless, the greater dragons erased in blinding flashes of fire. Now the war was truly in motion, and she wondered what new shape the future would take. Soft footsteps approached from behind. A familiar voice called her name, gentle yet carrying the quiet confidence she had come to recognize.

"Kitsune."

She turned slowly, a warm smile curving her lips as Sergeant Elias Vargas stepped into the soft light. He wore his crisp black-and-gold dress uniform, the fabric tailored perfectly to his powerful frame. Rows of ribbons gleamed on his chest beside the distinctive Delta Force insignia, each mark of service telling a story she had yet to hear. "Elias," she purred, voice low and velvet-soft. "You clean up rather handsomely. I almost didn't recognize you without the armor." He gave a small, surprised chuckle, rubbing the back of his neck. "Didn't expect to find you up here. The view… it still gets me every time."

Kitsune rose with fluid grace, tails swaying in a slow, teasing arc. "It is breathtaking. I have flown on dragonback and ridden the strongest winds of Albion, yet nothing prepares the soul for seeing an entire world turn beneath your feet." She stepped closer, golden-orange eyes sparkling with playful mischief. "Tell me, Sergeant, do all your people carry such quiet strength, or are you simply the exception?"

Elias met her gaze, a faint flush touching his ears. "Most of us try. Some succeed more than others." He hesitated, then offered his arm with surprising courtliness. "The officer's club is having a dance night tonight. I was wondering if you'd like to join me. It's nothing fancy, but the music is loud, and the company is good."

Kitsune's smile widened into something delightfully wicked. "A tavern? It has been ages since I visited a proper one. I would be honored, Elias." She slipped her arm through his, the warmth of her body pressing lightly against his side. "Lead the way, Sergeant. Tonight I feel like dancing."

They walked the softly lit corridors together, Kitsune's tails brushing playfully against his legs. The officer's club doors opened to a transformed space. What was normally a quiet bar had become a pulsing rave. Colored lights swept across the deck in rhythmic waves, EDM music thrummed through the air, and crew members moved with unrestrained energy on the dance floor.

Kitsune's eyes lit up. The invigorating beat and flashing lights pulled at something wild inside her. She tightened her grip on Elias's arm and drew him straight into the crowd, her body moving with effortless grace. Crew members greeted her with smiles and curious glances; she returned every one with warm, flirtatious charm, drawing laughter and easy conversation wherever she passed. At a quieter corner table, they finally paused for drinks. Kitsune lifted her glass, studying the colorful ribbons on Elias's chest. "These marks you wear—each one tells a story, does it not? Tell me, Elias, what battles earned them? I wish to know the man who can match the nine-tails in the sparring ring."

Elias took a slow sip, the music pulsing around them like a living heartbeat. "Most of these are campaign ribbons—different wars and operations I've been part of. The little ones on the bottom are marksmanship badges; I've qualified as an expert with pretty much every weapon the Army issues." He touched two higher ribbons gently. "The Silver Star was for a hostage rescue gone sideways. My team was pinned down by heavy fire. I took a squad through a storm of bullets to reach the hostages. We got them out, but I lost two good friends that night." His voice softened. "The Distinguished Service Cross came later. Night raid gone wrong. I held a critical position alone for three hours against overwhelming odds while the rest of the team extracted the wounded. Kept the enemy at bay with nothing but a rifle and sheer stubbornness."

He continued talking quietly, recounting other deployments and the weight each ribbon carried, the stories flowing easily between sips of their drinks. Kitsune listened, tails curled around the leg of her chair, her gaze never leaving his face. When their glasses were empty, Kitsune's eyes sparkled with fresh mischief. She stood, catching his hand in hers. "Enough stories for one night, Sergeant. Now it is time to dance." With a playful tug, she dragged Elias toward the pulsing dance floor, her laughter bright and free as the music swallowed them both.

The beat surged through the deck like a living heartbeat. Kitsune moved with fluid, predatory grace, her nine tails weaving hypnotic patterns behind her as she spun and swayed. Elias matched her step for step, his strong frame surprisingly light on his feet. He kept one hand at her waist, guiding her through the crowd while she pressed close, her body brushing against his in time with the rhythm. Colored lights swept over them—crimson, electric blue, searing white—catching on the gold trim of his uniform and the soft sheen of her fur. For a moment, the war, the stars, and the weight of empires faded. There was only the music, the heat of the dance floor, and the shared, breathless smile between a nine-tailed mage and a Delta sergeant as they lost themselves in the night.
