Chapter 156 - Chapter 121: The Parade of Guardians

**Kitsune Vulpine's Log, Supplemental**

**Discovery recording**

**35 days after Rothgard's Fall**

Banners fly. Cadets march. Alliances are forged in step.

Major Lucas Grant escorted Kitsune Vulpine and Lord Alistair Greymoor from the glass tower with crisp efficiency. Two black four-wheeler HAS-Vs waited at the curb, their electric motors emitting a low, steady hum as the vehicles idled with smooth, near-silent precision. A sleek black SUV stood between them, its lines elegant yet unmistakably armored.

"This is one of our luxury civilian models," Lucas explained as he held the rear door open. "Armored, of course, but built for comfort. We are developing more as the town expands beyond walking distance." Kitsune slid into the cool leather interior. Captain James Nolan and A.L.I. already occupied the facing seats. Nolan offered a polite nod. "Good morning, Grand Mage. Lord Alistair. After last night, I suspect there may have been some underestimation of what Discovery and our people are capable of. I thought it best we travel together so I can brief you on today's schedule before we resume our sit-down discussions."

The motorcade pulled away smoothly, the HAS-Vs flanking the SUV as it headed south on roads that hummed faintly beneath the tires. Nolan continued, his tone measured and conversational. "We will observe the First Company of the Republic Guardian Corps on the training grounds. You will see their parade formation and a demonstration of small-unit tactics. After that, we return to the conference room to continue our talks."

The convoy rolled through the growing streets of Shire Base. Kitsune watched the passing scenery with quiet calculation. The town was no longer a rough camp; wide boulevards and sturdy buildings spoke of planned permanence. Soon, the training grounds appeared ahead, an impeccably maintained emerald field bordered by precise white lines. A raised platform stood beside a tall flagpole where two banners snapped smartly in the breeze—the United States flag and the black-and-gold banner of the Space Force.

The Marine training commander, a woman whose uniform bore the insignia of a senior instructor, met them at the base of the platform steps. She saluted sharply. "Grand Mage Vulpine, Lord Alistair, welcome. Captain Nolan. Please take your seats. You are about to be introduced to the First Company of the Republic Guardian Corps."

They ascended to the platform. Comfortable chairs had been arranged with an unobstructed view of the field. The Marine commander stood at the front rail, voice carrying clearly. "Today you will witness the cadets in full parade formation, followed by small-unit tactics drills. These men and women have completed two weeks of our accelerated training and are now in their final assessment phase before graduation."

A crisp command rang across the field. From the far side, three perfectly aligned companies of cadets marched onto the grass. Forty per class, one hundred twenty in total, they moved as a single disciplined body. Boots struck the turf in perfect unison. Rifles rested at the shoulder, barrels gleaming. Every head was high, every back straight. The cadence of their steps rolled like distant thunder.

Kitsune leaned forward slightly, nine tails curling around the base of her chair. The sight stirred a complex swirl of emotions within her. She had expected rough militia at best, yet here marched humans, elves, dwarves, gnomes, and beastkin shoulder to shoulder without regard for bloodline or ancient titles. Their precision rivaled the elite knight formations of Albion, yet lacked the pomp and hereditary arrogance that so often plagued her own people. This was discipline born of necessity and forged through relentless training, not inherited privilege. The integration of species into a single cohesive force impressed her deeply; Albion's Four Kingdoms still struggled with such unity even after centuries of alliance.

Strategically, she saw immense potential—such soldiers could turn the tide against the Imperia if properly allied. Yet beneath the admiration lay a thread of wary respect. These Americans wielded power without the traditional structures she understood, and that made them unpredictable. She filed the observation away, already calculating how best to leverage this disciplined force for Albion's survival while preserving her own kingdom's sovereignty.

Lord Alistair watched with narrowed eyes, impressed despite himself. "They move like veterans, not recruits who began training mere weeks ago." Nolan nodded once. "That is the point of the program. We break them down, then rebuild them stronger. In two weeks, they will be ready to defend this valley and anyone who calls it home." The parade concluded with a final sharp salute. The Marine commander turned to her guests. "The small-unit tactics demonstration will begin shortly. If you follow me to the white command tent, you will have an elevated view of the exercises."

They descended the platform and crossed the grass to the large white command tent erected at the edge of the field. Inside, a long table held maps and data pads while crew and Marines administered the exercises. Dominating the space above them was a large curved screen that gave every spectator a clear, real-time overhead view of the entire training area. Comfortable chairs faced the open side that overlooked the field. The Marine commander gestured for them to be seated.

Kitsune settled into her chair, golden-orange eyes gleaming with genuine interest. The day had only begun, yet she already sensed the shape of the future these Americans were forging. She folded her hands in her lap and waited for the demonstration to unfold, her mind already calculating how such disciplined force might be turned to Albion's advantage.
