Captain James Nolan's Log, Supplemental
Discovery Command briefing recording
30 days after arrival in Terra Sol system
The conference room was quiet except for the low hum of the holo-projector. Captain James Nolan sat at the head of the table, his expression grave as he listened to the reports.
Dr. Elena Vasquez spoke first, her tone precise and clinical. "I completed full pathogen analysis on tissue samples taken during the initial medical scan. The results are clear: these Beastkin show no special resistance to antibiotic or antiviral treatments. In fact, their immune systems demonstrate markedly lower resistance than comparable human baselines on Earth. Their microbial defense profile is surprisingly vulnerable—standard Sol-grade antibiotics and antivirals would be highly effective against any potential cross-contamination. This is both a risk for them if exposed to our pathogens and a significant advantage for us in any containment scenario. Their physiology is robust in structural and sensory areas, but their immunological adaptability appears limited."
Dr. Daniel Solkaman followed immediately, bringing up a new projection on the holo. "On the technological side, I personally examined the communication crystal they carried and the rune-enchanted cloak that enhanced their stealth. The cloak provides excellent visual camouflage through subtle light-bending runes woven into the fabric, making the wearer nearly invisible against natural backgrounds. However, it does not mask thermal signatures or sound. The communication crystal operates on radio-wave transmission, generated and modulated by an extremely fine runic code etched into its core lattice. The same runic code appears on the cloak. My team is already working on deciphering the pattern. Early analysis suggests it functions as both a power source and a modulation key—essentially a biological-semiconductor hybrid that we have never encountered before."
Commander Raj Patel, Chief Engineer, leaned forward. "That runic code could be the key to their entire magitech system. If we can reverse-engineer even a portion of it, we might understand how they integrate biological and mechanical energy. It could give us insight into how to interface with their technology if needed."
Nolan nodded once. "Good. What else have we learned?"
The officers continued their reports, each adding another layer to the picture of the two natives now held in a prefab housing unit under guard. When the last voice fell silent, Nolan straightened, his decision forming.
"I will speak with them myself. A.L.I., prepare a secure outdoor area near the central plaza—neutral ground, minimal guard presence, non-lethal only. Voss, you will observe from a distance. We will not release them yet, but we will treat them with respect and transparency."
The officers nodded in agreement.
A.L.I. closed the holo display. "Understood, Captain. I will prepare the area immediately."
Nolan looked once more at the feed where the two natives sat close together, speaking in low tones. "We are no longer alone in this world. How we handle these first encounters will define everything that follows."
The briefing ended.
